Looking for something that doesn't exist and never has for anyone, anywhere, not even wht people. Equality is an idea but its not tangible, you cant hold it in your hand. You want to be equal to people who arent equal to the people they elect to serve them or you want to be equal to the people who have the power to deem you less than equal? If it's the latter, seems like you and the average wht person has more in common than you think.
Remember Emancipation only freed slaves in the Southern States, not the whole country. Until the 13th Amendment freed slaves everywhere. Then came the 14th Amendment (citizenship) and the 15th Amendment (the right to vote). Lucky Plessy vs Ferguson was overturned by the Board of Education changing Jim Crow laws. Rosa was not the first woman to fight for equality on public transportation she is the one most recognized for it! Everyone needs to look up Mary Pleasant who went to court for separate busing practices.
Not all people in that group of people have the same attitude. Let's not paint with a broad brush. I'm embarrassed for what people with my skin color did. It was shameful. And it's shameful that some still feel this way.
@sherryyancey6698 why so much hate from your ppl? What did Black people ever do to your ppl? We know it's not all of your ppl who hate blk ppl (95%). We know your ppl (95%) would rather not engage with blk ppl. So so sad that it still happens today some the same as then and other ways as well 😢
Wait? Changing the hearts and minds can not wait. Waiting means more generations of poisoned hearts and minds. Every citizen needs to teach that all citizens deserve equal status as humans as well as citizens. Now back to this great series.
Just a brother from South Africa asking for some enlightenment and context, where was Malcom X by that time ? Aren't they activists from the same era? or it's like Dr. King is your "Mandela"? Like, even though there is a great number of activist that significantly contributed to ending the struggle, Dr. King (for USA), there was Malcom X, P Newton (not sure about the era/years active) and many more but they are hardly mentioned.. Then Mandela for (for SA) , we also had Oliver Tambo, Crishani, Mr and Mrs Sisulu ( but I assume most of non-SA citizens are not familiar with these names)
Like someone commented above, they had to stop somewhere and in an hour documentary could highlight only some main characters of the times. This should not diminish their contributions at all.
This is such a brilliant series .. thank you! But what about the indigenous people of america?? why are they not included in this?! very interesting...

I'm sorry that Kennedy didn't act fast enough - but as a student of the Cold War Era I have to say that he stopped 6 wars, and was trying to stop a 7th, some being nuclear, and he was fighting his own govt the entire time. Which cost him his life and his brothers, it cost you all Vietnam soldiers, it cost Patrice Lumumba in The Congo and they've never recovered from that assassination. If you all were nuked there would be no civil rights movement. He was only president for a thousand days. 1,000 days. Not even a full term. He died for your country, in the South, I should add, (nod to Wallace) He sent in the national guard. He's not perfect. I'm not ever going to say that. But if you read the archives and the back door letters between him, Castro, and Khrushchev, you'll know that without him there would be no USA. He stood between ALL of the people of the USA and all out nuke war, and for it he was lynched at high noon in public, too. RFK knew the Civil Rights was pressing and he was going to lead that movement along in the govt- but you know what happens to presidents that sympathise with the cause. Bullets in public. Just like most all the great leaders of the Civil Rights in the 60's. If you want Civil Rights in Nuke fall out, then by all means... I for one am glad he put those mere thousand days to fighting his own Chiefs of Staff and gave his life to stop that cold war becoming the hottest one the world has ever seen. Both Kennedys believed in King - but did King know they were fighting a nuke war, and other things. It came so close to bombs dropping. If they lost the next election they assumed no-one would be alive, let alone have rights.
