      Hi there I just found your channel today! I'm a wife and mom of six homesteader in top northwestern or Arizona in the high desert and we have relentless harvester ants that wiped out our entire winter garden. Nothing we tried whatsoever work to keep them away except for they seem to avoid a well sealed above ground metal garden tub that is open on the bottom as long as it doesn't have open sides. I need advice regarding how do you plant so many above ground planners like you do and keep the harvester ants away?

    I really want to experiment this year with starting tomatoes from seed outside. Our tomato plants drop blooms until about the end of August and don't even ripen when they do finally set until almost October. I was thinking that gives the plant plenty of time to grow and I don't have to deal with grow lights and all that...guess we will see!

    I'm new to gardening and am learning so much from you. Thank you for educating us and for sharing your passion. I have a question about mulching. How do I apply future granule fertilizer the next time with the mulch in the way? And when I apply liquid fertilizer every few weeks wouldn't the mulch absorb most of the nutrients and the roots may not get much or any? Again I'm new to gardening. Thsnk you for all your help in advance

    • @GrowingInTheGarden

      You can plant tomatoes in ground in raised beds or in a large container.

  • @luckygardens4680
    @luckygardens4680 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome tips!!. Question on how deep the it should be planted. My raised beds are only 6 inches tall, because I have wire mesh underneath for digging rodents. I have to plant sideways. I do trim bottom leaves and leave only a few at the plant while transplanting and cover until the bottom of the leaves. Will that work similar to deep planting?

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
      @GrowingInTheGarden  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, that will work fine. Dig a trench as long as the stem of the plant and as deep as you can go. That's how I plant them in my very first raised beds which are only 8 inches deep.

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
      @GrowingInTheGarden  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When growing in containers (grow-bags included) they will require feeding more often than those grown in the ground because of the nutrients that are lost when watering. It is important to make sure to water the grow bag deeply each time you water - until water drains out.
