I am beyond jeolous!! I've been in a cab only twice, once as a kid. The whippany museum had a huge open house with conrail loco's, m&e and nj transit. You got to walk thru a GP40 cab and also sit in the Comet I cab. Then second time back in 2006 a employee of a local railroad invited me up into a tunnel motor.
This is really the best cab ride video I've ever seen. It was nice that you got to see the Chemical Coast Line from an angle where no one but the train crew can see. That speical went in a complete circle didn't it. Glad you were able to ride this.
This is some really cool footage as few of us get a chance like this. I love the cab chatter as bits of information are tossed about among the occupants. The various engines caught near the end such as the ex- Conrail are all plus's in this video. The gutted passenger car is a nice moment of interest as well. Seeing the train from the outside is the definite ''clincher'' to this video presentation. Way cool! Take care....
Wow lucky man! People don't get cabride offers that often period, never mind the fact it was from the OLS special. This is definitely being added to my favorites.
Wish I could be invited to something like this. Someday, someday. This is quite incredible, a cab ride on the Lehigh Line, something you don't see much of.
@SusQ45 Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Inside the cab is actually a very dynamic environment contrary to what I originally thought. The real treat in terms of power was a UP SD70M which was on the point of an intermodal (not in this video) and two BNSF units that were on an ethanol train. I thought the outside shot would be a nice way to end it, I'm glad you feel the same.
Nice video and thank you for your comments on mine. The 5826 was trailing on our NCOL train, with the 7018 added when they decided to run NS 32 on the rear.
@KyleVideoDesigns Thanks man! I was going there and was psyched I was actually invited on the train, when they told me we could ride in the cab I was speechless.
@ARandall70 Thanks man glad you liked it! It was funny I was wondering why your video looked like you were filming at the floor of the engine, now I see that it was in fact the high hood that gave that optical illusion. That must've been really sweet!
I could be wrong, but I believe the GP38-3 is rebuilt from a GP50 but is internally a GP38-2. If you were to look at a photo of the radiators on this engine you'd see that the two radiators are farther apart than a normal GP38-2, that space is from the third radiator found on GP50's. Sorry for the week delay in responding, I haven't had power since the 29th.
While they were in the NYC area for a conference, I had hosted a group of system wide Norfolk Southern Police officials to a tour of the WTC site. Their way of saying thank you was to grant me a ride on the OLS Special. And as I had previously pointed out, permission was recieved from NS supervisors, and all FRA regulations were complied with.
@bbobs327 Unfortunately I don't have much more than what is seen on this. I video taped when I could, but for the most part I really just enjoyed the trip. What was filmed in this video is most of the "hot spots" on the Lehigh Line and Port Reading Secondary. The Chemical Coast I didn't take much video of because there really wasn't much to see with the exception of the BNSF power. Anyway I hope what I have in this video will be enough! Thanks for checking it out!
Hopefully you aren't considering getting a job with the railroad then! Despite it being welded rail it was nothing like the NEC where the rider doesn't feel anything. I did my best to keep the camera steady throughout the video, sorry it wasn't steady enough for you to watch the whole thing, hope you enjoyed what you were able to watch!
chaosdemonwolf1 A horn can be fine-tuned by adjusting the length of its resonator. I tune pipe organs. They have reed pipes which are slightly similar to air horns.
Well we got power back yesterday, but we didn't get hit as bad as some people. We lost a few smaller trees but other than that and the power we were absolutely fine.

What is the purpose of cab signals? Are they safer? 765 had to be equipped with cab signals in order to lead the train on ex-PRR in PA. 765 also visited Bound Brook, NJ in summer 1988 to pull 2 railfan excursions to Reading, PA and back. At that time, all the freight main lines through Bound Brook (toward Newark, West Trenton, Phillipsburg and PA) were Conrail owned.
Yeah I'll never forget this. I was actually down in South Jersey a few weeks ago and had chased CA-20 (not sure if you're on that job or not) and it's pretty nice down. Can you transfer to a different shared assets area or is that basically it?
@CSXACe I agree! I thought it was amazing when I was in Conrail GP #3025 and got to actually drive it and blow the horn. Although, that was before railroad security was as strict as it is now. One of the coolest feelings =)
All NS GP38-3s are rebuilt GP50s, as for any other RR who has "GP38-3"s they can be made from anything as there is no real standard GP38-3 from EMD. Thats why there are all different locos that the GP38-3s came from.
@trainmaster101 Who are you to tell me I don't deserve this? I asked you to be quiet because you were talking and the train was coming, not a big deal. There were NS employees that came in and out of that area that morning and not once did they tell me I was trespassing, also there is no sign posted before you walk off the station platform saying that you are trespassing. I have NEVER gotten in trouble for being there and filming there so I honestly don't know what you are talking about.
This is one of the best cab ride videos ever, awesome job!

Lucky! I love the horn on this engine!
Nathan P5. NICE
when i grow up I Will be a train driver
@@jatorriharpe6315 you don’t drive a train

How does one go about getting a cab ride like this? This is a childhood dream. Excellent video
Wish I could be invited to something like this. Someday, someday. This is quite incredible, a cab ride on the Lehigh Line, something you don't see much of.
@zdoryan95 Thank you very much! This was my first time ever having a cab ride on this line. Being in the cabs of these beasts is truly awesome.

Amazing video! Always wanted to do something like that! I've only driven a CR Geep a few yards in Manville Yard. I LOVE it =). like and favorite
so thats what going by bound brook looks like from the cab. VERY NICE VIDEO!!
Nice video and thank you for your comments on mine. The 5826 was trailing on our NCOL train, with the 7018 added when they decided to run NS 32 on the rear.
@KyleVideoDesigns Thanks man! I was going there and was psyched I was actually invited on the train, when they told me we could ride in the cab I was speechless.
awesome video. i have always wanted to see these rails from that perspective.
Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed it!
@murjax Yes, I was very lucky to do this. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@TrainzrokMSTS Thank you, it was a blast! I know where you are coming from but FRA regulations were met with this trip, and cab ride.
Impressive carbide OLS train! 🔥👍
@SOU5111 It was awesome, I am very happy that I was able to post this.
@ARandall70 Thanks man glad you liked it! It was funny I was wondering why your video looked like you were filming at the floor of the engine, now I see that it was in fact the high hood that gave that optical illusion. That must've been really sweet!
Very awesome video! Super cool how you got a cab-ride!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing this!
5277! That thing is everywhere on CSAO. Now assigned to South Jersey.

great vid bob at 6:47 is me in the video. very pleased
@ecoRfan I hope you do get to experience this, it is a lot of fun! I noticed that too, it was pretty cool that I was able to do this.

Love this! 🔥
@bigB6flyer Thank you! Thanks for watching it!
Love the Nathan P5!
@CSXRailfan95 Thank you, it was pretty neat to see it from the cab.

@TheFlagman2 I hear you, it truly was an overwhelming experience.
Well done video! Thank you.
What a horrible sounding horn.
Interesting seeing the Quiet Zone grade crossings!
Double track at 6:30 !
I think the loco that was being operated was a switcher. Hence the non cool sounding horn
Robert Gift it just needs to be tuned
Tuned? How can ya tune a horn?
chaosdemonwolf1 A horn can be fine-tuned by adjusting the length of its resonator.
I tune pipe organs. They have reed pipes which are slightly similar to air horns.
Nice look at interlaced track.
Love the roar of an old emd
Well we got power back yesterday, but we didn't get hit as bad as some people. We lost a few smaller trees but other than that and the power we were absolutely fine.
i am speechless. There is so much to comment on, just to much...
Awesome video!
@21stCenturyLtd Well said my friend, I couldn't agree more. Where's your video from Bound Brook?
@bbobs327 While they were in the NYC area for a conference, I had hosted a group of system wide Norfolk Southern Police officials to a tour of the WTC site. Their way of saying thank you was to grant me a ride on the OLS Special. And as I had previously pointed out, permission was recieved from NS supervisors, and all FRA regulations were complied with.

Hauling butt love it ! Shaking and grinding ,
Thank you for the correction!
Thanks dude!
Very cool!
nice, would have been cool to see more woodbridge footage, i see woodbridge at 9:25 then it cuts off to the overpass on the parkway, but nice footage
Did you ever get footage of the old Townley or Newark detector on this trip?
Yeah I'll never forget this. I was actually down in South Jersey a few weeks ago and had chased CA-20 (not sure if you're on that job or not) and it's pretty nice down. Can you transfer to a different shared assets area or is that basically it?
@hamstertrain18 Thank you! I just watched your video, your reaction was great.
One locomotive and three cars. The last clip shows the train passing through a grade crossing.
@CSXACe I agree! I thought it was amazing when I was in Conrail GP #3025 and got to actually drive it and blow the horn. Although, that was before railroad security was as strict as it is now. One of the coolest feelings =)
Yeah. damn Muslims
Heard the unmistakeable RFE T.R.McCorkle in the engine ... whew ...
im a extra, but i have worked that job a few times, and yes my seniority is good for NJ to so if i want to work up there I can
Why didn’t you record it at Clark :(
very nice indeed.
How were you able to do this
@CSX6000 Thank you!
@CSXACe how the hell did u manage this!?!?!?!?!
Nice Video.
I live in Manville. sweet.
hahahaha "tripping hazards everywhere" sooo true
any idea whose former heavyweight passenger car that was/is?
All NS GP38-3s are rebuilt GP50s, as for any other RR who has "GP38-3"s they can be made from anything as there is no real standard GP38-3 from EMD. Thats why there are all different locos that the GP38-3s came from.
The horn isn't terrible or sick it just has character
loganbaileysfunwithtrains it has too much air going to it that's all
was there any more engines or just the gp38 and did it have cars
this is so cool
do u have the full run video?
@DAL3294 Or GP35's. Not incorrect Sir. NBSR has a fleet of GP38-3's up here. All are rebuilt GP35's. ;)
@CNJGeep Thank you!
Sounds like too much air is going to the P5
@CSXACe Yeah, the bathroom is huge in those things, LOL.
@CSXACe oh really? thx bob I was surprise when I saw that.
@CSXACe Working on it now
@johnyboy087 That's very true my friend.
NICE!!!
Incorrect they are rebuilt GP50s.
We hang out there on sherbans at the brige that's where I will fan
@21stCenturyLtd Alright cool.
couldn't finish the video, i was getting seasick
Someone got very lucky
BOUND BROOK WIN!
they sound like their from new York
Sick P5. They need to fix it.
Car Wash Central Productions nah just put an air restrictor in it, the horn has too much air going to it.
@zdoryan95 Definitely sounds like a good time! =)
Absolutely lol
@trainmaster101 Who are you to tell me I don't deserve this? I asked you to be quiet because you were talking and the train was coming, not a big deal. @ucvgabe8467 Hell yeah dude!
lucky
Unfortunately I don't know who owned these cars before NS. Sorry man.
its not abandoned, I highly suggest learning proper english before commenting on any American RR video, thanks...
@skinnyshit8888 That'd be nice, but it wouldn't be as cool if this stuff happened every day.
