It’s sad how they treat pyramid head like a Silent Hill mascot. It was an iconic character that should’ve been left in SH2. Leave the players wanting more instead of pulling him out like “Hey! Remember when we did this?”
Definitely. There's tons of cancelled games I wish were finished. To me it feels like most of the time cancelled games are more interesting than the ones that get released.
That Silent Hill 5 ‘Daylight Horror’ concept is actually really intriguing. It would be cool if some indie dev out there took inspiration from that idea and did something with it!

Silent Hill Cold Heart is a very interesting concept. Even the mechanics is interesting too. Where there's a hunger and cold system for the player to survive, or her cell phone is the equivalent of the radio to detect monsters. Too bad it got canceled, and turned into Shattered Memories, but they kept the physique test.
It's wild that still to this day, hearing about Konami cancelling Team Silent's Silent Hill 5 and shipping it off to Western devs pisses me off so much lol.
Disbanding Team Silent was Konami's biggest mistake and cancellation of Silent Hills, another of Konami's biggest mistake in the bloody history, Cancellation of Silent Hills will forever haunt konami.
I remember have heard a Silent Hill game being developed on DS but I always thought that was just a fake rumor. Interesting to know that was actually a pitch idea for a game and that's it.
There is actually a game called Dementium: The Ward which was released on the DS in 2007 which was initially pitched to Konami by Renegade Kid (the developer) to be a Silent Hill title. However, Konami rejected the pitch, so Renegade Kid ended up releasing it as its own thing. For what it is, it’s a fun little game. Definitely limited in terms of environment and gameplay mechanics, but you can definitely see where they took influence from Silent Hill when you play it in terms of atmosphere, story and some of the light-puzzle elements. You can actually pick it up on the Nintendo eStore on Switch if you’re interested. I think it’s worth a play-through for any fan of retro horror video gaming.
If SH5 is the OG SH3, that means in the cycle of remakes, Konami could add this, don't forget Konami need to defeat Hideo Kojima in the game of horror, and SH5 is the best narrative of Owaku. If Konami is smart, they should looking for Owaku to finish that game. If Hideo is gonna make a SH espirtual sucessor, this could be the swan song of Silent Hill. The games of Hideo are impressive. Still we don't know the plan of Silent Hill f, maybe they are testing Ryukishi07 as the new writer of the series. That's another good move of Konami, the creation of a new Team Silent.
@@LosMSR Owaku didn't work on the cancelled SH5, neither Masahiro Ito and Norihito Hatakeda. I finally got around to playing Silent Hill 2 after being interested in it for a while and it was so amazing that I immediately played 1, 3, and 4 right after, and I’m mad that I didn’t play this series sooner. (I did play Shattered Memories as well somewhat recently and enjoyed it quite a bit, though the lack of combat hurts it. I’ll likely end up playing the rest of the main games but i haven’t heard great things about them, I’m not super hopeful about it.) Finally playing it and realizing how much Konami completely mishandled the series pains me so much. I had heard about this stuff before and 5’s concepts, particularly of daylight horror and ‘rotting normality’ sound so fascinating to me, i would’ve loved to play it. Same with Cold Heart’s doubling down on the ‘survival’ in survival horror, as well as Broken Covenant’s priest protagonist, the manifesting past, and the purification rituals reminiscent of 4’s candles for hauntings. And of course there’s PT, Silent Hills. I played a PC remake of it like a few months ago after 1-4 and it’s just… baffling. Konami had a dream team on their hands and they just… threw it away. It’s nice to see them finally pushing for Silent Hill again with these new games, barring the unbelievable abomination that is Ascension. That 2 Remake combat reveal trailer a few months ago didn’t instill confidence in me with some of the apparent stiffness and that qte attack, but the recent trailers actually have me cautiously excited now, I’m genuinely looking forward to it now. We still know nothing really about f but supposedly the writer is acclaimed so I’m excited for that as well, a Silent Hill game set in Japan has me curious. Townfall seems real interesting as well, though we still don’t know shit about it. If these new games do well I hope they bring back the concepts for 5, but at the same time it’s like, without the original devs, it wouldn’t even be the same, would it? i hope they bring back the original devs, if that’s even possible, or if not I really wish it was possible. It all really saddens me because i haven’t been able to find much of anything quite like Silent Hill, not much has an atmosphere like it. I finished a game called Lost in Vivo recently and have been playing Signalis some, and these do kinda scratch that itch. I also watched Jacob’s Ladder since it was an inspiration for the games and I loved it, it was also fun noticing the Silent Hill influences; Jacob and James have the same initials and outfit, that whole hospital scene especially the (legless?) guy at the end of that scene, everything about guy said Silent Hill; the metal frame reminded me of Flesh Lips and Maria, and the covered head and blurry, jittering head reminded me a lot of the enemies.
Holy shit i just scrolled through the text and that is LONG damn, sorry for the rant, i got into the series recently and i found it all fascinating, just needed to put it all out there somewhere i guess 😭
Some of the later ones are good if you can accept that they're being approached with a different vision than the OG series. Origins nails the atmosphere, it feels the most like classic SH out of all the western entries, and Travis fits right in with Heather, Henry, James and Harry as a classically styled SH protagonist. but its a bit of a slog to get through after the Sanitorium. Homecoming has really great monster design/music, but the combat is really boring (especially for the most combat heavy game in the series) and the story is not good, imho. Downpour is, in my opinion, the best game of the wester developed ones---it feels like they really wanted to make a David Lynch movie but couldnt quite get there. I think the presentation is great, the story takes some BROAD swings at characterizing the world and setting of SH to a degree, and the town exploration is the best its been in the series since SH3.It's marred by some awful voice acting and a rushed story, and admittedly some of the controls should have been reworked. Book Of Memories is weird, not worth playing unless you REALLY wanna play it lol. Also, if you want a great SH-style game, I would 100% recommend Lone Survivor: The Directors cut. Its the best Silent Hill sendup game imho, you can tell the developer took a lot of queues from the SH series.
@@evanmichaelpearce1367 i did actually play just a tiny bit of Origins recently and from what I could tell it seemed like they nailed the atmosphere, i’ll have to really get into it soon though. As for that Lone Survivor game, I wasn’t expecting to be a 2d pixel game but it looks cool as hell actually, however the description recommends a newer ‘Super Lone Survivor’ version, have you played it or is there something you don’t like about it?
It's a blessing and a curse that they were cancelled. Some of them could have been the best Silent Hill yet, and others could have been the worst. I've been wanting a Silent Hill game that takes place between Silent Hill 1 and 3, one that shows the town recovering after the incident that took place during Silent Hill 1, and the return of the cult. It would also be cool to see Heather as a child, and her resemblance to Alessa from the first Silent Hill.

I think it immediately starts to go off the rails when they open the world up and involve too many characters. Silent Hill is at its best when it's a lonely personal experience.
