To each his own. Not only do I like the movie, I LOVE the movie. Ever since I saw it, I can't stop watching it again and again, along with every clip, interview, blooper reel, and reaction video. I still laugh at all the jokes and tear up the same at all the tender moments. Sure, I have favorite movies to see again ever so often, but no movie has ever hit me (in a good way) so hard. As a 73 yo gay man, this is the first time I've seen a romcom that I can relate to directly, instead of having to transpose the heroine into another hero in an effort to fully try to feel any passion between the two. For many, the cheesy parts and overused cliches are totally fresh to me. I remember when the first time openly gay men were shown on the screen was the gawd-awful Boys In The Band. But even then, the term "gay" was often not used, just a subtle twisting of the hand to indicate the orientation. And queer characters were often portrayed as villainous or just simply mocked. I know homophobia. I have witnessed it many times first hand. This movie is far from homophobic.
That’s really wonderful! I know this movie isn’t homophobic, the title was definitely meant as a joke. Even though I wasn’t a fan of this movie I still think it’s great that movies like this are popular and even allowed to exist at all. When I was growing up gay characters were most always shallow, walking stereotypes. Being gay was always an insult or a punchline. I think it’s a lot of the reason why it took me so long to realize my own sexuality. Most of what I’ve been shown my whole life is not representative of how diverse and abstract queerness is. I’m genuinely very glad you enjoy the movie so much. Most of the problems I have with it are based on the structure and writing more than anything. But, of course, they are purely my opinions and I don’t mean to take away from you love of it! There are plenty of things I like that the majority of people think are terrible haha. I don’t intend to claim that it’s wrong to like the movie!
like ... like .... like .... like .... like ... still wating for an actual simile I'm turning you in to the Like Police, the Um Sheriff and the Ya Kow Bureau of Investigation. Talk about "problems with exposition" ! Truth is, most complaints about this film is that it is too heavy in that regard.
