Thanks for trying to explain how some of us feel to those who don't understand; I hope it will help at least one person see *why* we do it even if *they* don't agree and don't do so themselves (which is, of course, totally the individual's choice). To me there are 2 aspects; 1) the wanting something to hold rather than stream (which is obviously more convenient and takes less/no space) which, for me, is part of the natural _Hunter/Gatherer_ gene passed down over thousands of years, more strong in some than others, and obviously also afftected by nurture as well as nature. 2) the desire to have a collection different even to other collectors to show individuality, and the enjoyment in 'hunting' the globe for the most exciting (or attractive) releases for display. As we both know I'm probably a bit _too_ much of an addicted collector - *Physical Media* *_or_* *T-shirts* *_or_* *Funkos* is not too mad, but, at least for a while *I was all 3* - I dropped the Funkos (mostly) as one had to go and space and usefulness wise they were the hardest to justify (to myself or to my long-suffering wife) P.S. I have an upcoming video planned on some of my 'boutique' label purchases which proves your point (and how insane I may be considered)
I wasn’t so much into steelbooks before but recently I’ve been picking up the Sony reissues with Dolby vision also bought the Oppenheimer steelbook. I had bought the Lawrence of Arabia some time ago artwork on that is superb. Those Lionsgate steelbooks are also attractive but the price to import is too high.
Well done Paul this video was really good and so true. I went through a stage when I sold all my movies be my YT days to go digital, which was ok until that film went off streaming! Lovely sets to see as well. Your words are just so true to everyone who collects physical media. I never seen anything like the book of the dead, Wow!😃👍
Yeah it’s all about holding something in your hands (ooh err matron!) 🤣 we all love to collect things. Of course if you only care about the movie then digital is probably right for you, but we love to touch shiny things 🤪
Why did I watch this? I now have an order for that same Alita Battle Angel release. I already had the regular amaray version in the collection. But when I saw this. Straight to eBay I went. That Mummy Trilogy set is amazing. I already have those movies in steelbook. The version where they are all in one steelbook. So not double dipping for that. But for Alita, I had to. Plus I did enjoy the movie. Fortunately the eBay seller is here in Wisconsin so it should arrive soon. But the Thanksgiving holiday will impact things.
@BigPauly cancelled the order and reorderd with express delivery and it seems it quickened it up. Maybe the previous order I had prime video delivery or something 🤔
It is about the quality of the disc and watching on the best possible equipment you can afford It makes a huge difference. Packaging is nice.but if you have to choose I would rather spend my money on the best way to watch a film than overpriced packaging
I personally just buy standard editions of films as I’m only interested in having the film there to watch. As long as none of it is damaged I’m happy. I get why people collect the premium editions and some of them are nice, but I just prefer standard as it saves space and also it’s always just the same film at the end of the day. Good video 👍👍
great video i fill the same a you if i like a film on steelbook then i get that if it a boxset with items in the box and i think it worth getting then i try to get it
Slip covers on mainstream movies I am not bothered about as they are usually just a replica of the cover on the disc case, but I do like the slip covers that come with Boutique labels such as Arrow, Severin, Vinegar Syndrome etc as they have new art work and are usually very sturdy rather than flimsy. Not a fan of steel books, but I do like the sturdy hard cardboard boxes you get from companies such as 88 Films, Indictor,Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome etc. But it’s the movie that matters the most to me, I would never not buy a movie just because it didn’t have a slip cover.
If you think Pauly's bad then watch that Movies&Sue channel. Her obsession with packaging is mental. It's all a bit weird if you ask me. A lot of them need to watch more movies than worry about packaging. I'm not being funny but for self-proclaimed film lovers, there's lot most of these BluTubers haven't seen given they're in their 40s. I see more stockpiling movies than I see them watching them.
I don’t buy big elaborate collectors sets Paul but I completely get your point of view, the packaging on some of these releases are things of beauty. I still love to see a special edition and love watching unboxings of these standout items. I live vicariously through other collectors (saves me a bit of cash lol) nice one mate, keep on collecting 👍😃👍
As a collector I can definitely see both sides of the argument wether collector editions are worth the price tags It’s all down to the individual (like you said) I mainly collect standard editions, but now and then I get something special, wether it be a steelbook or some other random edition Anything in this world is made to make a profit, so when people say it’s done to make money …. Asdurrrrr!!! lol but some are made for the love of the film and the love of a collectors edition, to give a definitive edition for the loyal fans Sometimes though, things are full of tat, just for the sake of having something extra to warrant the price tag You can tell the difference But at the end of the day collect what you like, if it makes you happy then it’s worth the price tag, if anyone gives ya crap over it MEH! Bugger them Film lovers / collectors love the best presentation possible Good video bud
Some of box sets like The Mummy do look really good and I can see why you spend so much time and effort on getting them, but I also do think it's silly that you own a lot of dvds that you haven't seen
Everyone collects in different ways. Due to space, i had to get over the slipcover thing. So basic amarays are now sleeved. I went mad on steelbooks early on. Then Zavvi flooded the market and I lost interest. But with the return of HMV to the steelbook game, i got hooked again.
I’m like you Pauly I love physical media from VHS through to4 K I have been collecting Movies for almost 40 years😎nearly everyone I know either streams or downloads illegal copies 😵
it's what you prefer, i own almost all the movies on blu ray or 4k that i stream legally or not, sometimes easier! as i have a firestick 4k in to my projector so easier and less wires than putting a 4k player to my projector and so on.
Each to their own. I can see the appeal as a former collector of steelbooks and physical media, but I just prefer minimalism. I'd rather have everything, apart from books, digital. Books can't be replicated by Kindle IMO. I save a lot by buying digital movies and I get them early too. Selling physical media on is a major hassle, I know having sold my collection several times, vinyl too, and you end up losing a fortune.
@@chrisburns7979 never happened with Apple and Amazon, never will. As soon as it did, no one would buy with them any more. Plus the films are like 2.99 to 3.99 to own, rental price, in 4K with DV.
Fab collection BigPauly great stuff, thanks for giving us all a good look at all your lovely steel books
When's the next blu hunt uploaded please

The Alita is a beautiful set, sorry for making you skint lol
Be open and discuss the cost attached to collecting physical media.
It varies some are more expensive than others
Pauly I bought some steelbooks from amazon Italy but delivery says 9th January 😢 ...is that normal?
lol what do you think?
@sHorrorfan well considering the order before is arriving from Italy in 2 weeks I'm not sure. Hence why I asked.
That does seem a way off for delivery, maybe they’re out of stock or pre orders
@BigPauly cancelled the order and reorderd with express delivery and it seems it quickened it up. Maybe the previous order I had prime video delivery or something 🤔
Great video Paula. Can’t beat physical media! Did you get the Arrow box set - Empire of Screams? Cheesy movies and great fun 😊

👍 You are the total package 😂😂😂
got the better part of 26/2700 films and tv shows many not on UK streaming
😊👍👍
Minimalism vs Maximalism
Some collectors want one copy film only others want the best looking overall release.
Each viewpoint is valid
I love slip covers on my 4ks as much as anyone but I’d never not buy a film because it doesn’t have a slip cover. That’s just stupid

Do u keep some steelbooks sealed Or boxsets
No all my purchases are opened as I like to enjoy them

The true winner are the people not watching it lol.

Hi Pauly
Streaming is just so much cheaper and convenient.
But you never really own the movie, you’re only ‘renting’ it from the studios
