As a Finn meeting Ahti is a trip because he speaks English in a way that I can only describe as Finnish boomer English. Like meeting my uncle in a game.
I am almost sure he is. Even if he isn’t, he clearly isn’t normal. He has no HRA, yet isn’t possessed. He can go through rooms filled with enemies. He can go to places that shouldn’t be accessible.
In case you dont know. Old gods of Asgard is a fake band name. They just use that name for Alan Wake and Control music. The real band is called Poets of the Fall.
Jack my friend... You mentioned Finland in the title.. We Finns are now legally obliged to visit this video at least once when we see it. Good luck, you'll need it.
Control - one of the few games out there that literally spoil you the entire plot using only the soundtrack. In fact, it takes the whole cake as the Sankarin Tango that Ahti listens to spoils not just Control, but Alan Wake and Quantum Break - all at once!
This was the video that introduced me to Max0r and made me laugh so hard my eyes hurt, tore my throat to shreds and gave me a cough I still have months later. Edit: for anyone that hasn’t played Control, while Max0r’s own experience lead him to believe you can only use Launch, he’s wrong. If you go out of your way to kill *Named* enemies they will drop some of the best weapon mods in the game. One of them makes it so your rocket launcher pistol launches 1000% faster. Another makes the Pierce, the gun with the single highest damage output in the game, not need to charge. You pull the trigger and fire, whatever you aimed at is now fucking dead. No need to wait 10 seconds for it to charge and hope you hit, it’s just been deleted from the game.
Pierce's no-charge upgrade legitimately made me just... The world opened up before me. Flying shielded enemy? Dead. Giant fat shielded swirly boi? Dead. I managed to get two damage mods on top of that and Pierce legitimately *annihilated the scaling* off the face of the Earth. And I was all for it.
The criticisms of this game are very valid, but I literally could not care less. This game lets me pick up pieces of rock and/or people and throw them with my mind. I've had the time of my life.
The appearance of the Old Gods of Asgard was made even better by the fact that they appear in Alan Wake, and are even a prominent storyline device in that game which, through circumstances, shaped the world with their music. Old Gods wrote a song that maneuvered the universe to put Jesse where she was WELL before she was born. This is why the Old Gods appearance in this game is so awesome. Poets of the Fall do great work.
I find it funny that anybody that played control or Alan wake calls the band the old gods of Asgard That's their fictional in game name The band is actually called the Poets of the Fall And they're incredible
Absolutely loved max0r's video, and I'm a huge fan of Control myself. Yes, the story has nonsensical elements, a protagonist with the personality of a brick and it has tons of intentional plotholes but there's just a charm about it that I can't ignore, and the mystery around the unanswered questions intrigue me. The world around paranatural events and elements is one that I really want to see more of and the Oldest House was a blast to explore. Plus I'm a fan of stories and universes that allows you to use your own imagination rather than just giving you all the answers, so Control was right up my alley. The tie-in to Alan Wake in the AWE DLC (and a few documents in the base game) also had me fangirling because it's one of my favorite games, and one that I always hoped that Remedy would return to one day.
What made the game work for me is basically just disregarding Jesse and instead treating the Oldest House as the main character. Every twist and turn of that beautiful place made me want to know more. I had almost every single log file in the game when I was done and that was without a walkthrough on how to find them. I hunted through every inch of it just to learn a bit more about that place.
Played this right after replaying Max payne 1 and 2 on original xbox, the Remedy vibe remains strong with this one. Really spectacular and creative experience, one of the best titles I've played since Bioshock Infinite.
Just one thing that needs clarification: Max0r's guns were doing shit damage cause he sucks at picking mods. (in his handgun damage comparison, the stuff he had equipped was "DMG after Kills" buff, not a passive dmg increase) Monke might hit hard but it also takes a heavier toll on the energy meter than most other things. (also, alternating between guns and psionics is how you avoid running out of juice)
Not necessarily Throughout my entire playthrough I found about 7 DMG mods and all of them low tier so in the endgame whether I wanted to or not it was either return to monke or throw the explosives I fired from the launcher cuz throwing them actually boosted the damage thanks to the monke skill tree
@@reedman0780 Like Salazar said, rng and the need to grind for mods played a part on the issue. If memory serves right, Maxor mentions that throughout his first playthrough he didn't get any dmg mods to drop. Also, you can't reasonably expect people to find the Unique Mods.
Hey I'm rewatching your videos. One thing I should have said last time because you asked in the end about weird games is that the best two SCP games out right now are not actual SCP games. Control is obvi one of them, the other is Lobotomy Corporation. Lobotomy Corporation is a game where you oversee a facility that harvest energy from "abnormalities" that you need to study and contain. It's still a niche title but people are slowly discovering it now that the company made a third game on the francise.
There's only one other instance in my video game history that hit me on a similar level to the Ashtray Maze, and it's probably not what many think I'm going to say. The final stretch of Super Mario Odyssey and the absolute bitching tune to accompany it, Honeylune Ridge: Escape. Up until this point there's been only one lyrical song, which was also used to advertise the game, but once you broke through the barrier to escape the inside of the moon, it kicked it and was just a blast to not only play through but listen to as well.
Everyone go listen to Poets of the Fall. They are the fictional band Old Gods of Asgard. They're my favorite band of all time, and can do pretty much any sound. So you're bound to find something in their catalogue that you like.
Let's say that, the more you like X-files, SCP, and yeah, Annihilation ( and the books it's from ), the more you'll love that game. It's weird, and you'll have to go through a lot of short reports and shit... But it's great nonetheless !
For me Control seemed very similar to the SCP universe just from the way the organization in the game is similar to the SCP organization they operate similarly and they do the same things, capturing weird and dangerous entities for containment and study, cover ups, etc. If you ever watch SCP videos you'll definitely see the similarities.
Remedy is one of the few developers that I still have any respect for. Worst that can be said about them is that they make flawed masterpieces. I even have to give them some credit for Quantum Break, and that was a very mixed bag.
>If your PC runs on more than potatoes Jokes on you! I'm lazy and just got a PS5! Seriously though, Control is almost always on sale on all platforms and is just a fantastic ride.
I'm leaning towards the Max Payne remakes are going to be bad. They're going to try punching up the dialogue, story etc instead of just revamping the graphics and audio, leaving everything else alone. I'd wager it'll be sixty/forty percent bad or good respectively.
I honestly think there's no way they could fuck up remaking MP1, the combat is ass and reticles for 90% of the weapons are just suggestions. Even if all they do is punch up the dialogue and throw it in the same engine as control it'll be far more enjoyable to play.
@@nicholasrozwalka2768 When I say punch up the dialogue I mean they're going to start changing it so they start blaming the drugs on white supremacy or that the police are in cahoots with the drug pushers because "muh racism".
This game was way too difficult for me. I had so much trouble progressing in the game because of how easy it was to get lost. Weapon and ability upgrades were hard to get as well. Also I didn't know she could levitate. I either forgot the keybind or didn't get the chance to do the side mission to unlock it (if there was one). This is truly a game that needs (and deserves) all of your attention otherwise you're not going to have a great time. Quantum Break was also a game I never properly played through. I went through that entire game not upgrading any ability all because I couldn't find any upgrade points(?) throughout the game.

Fun fact, Ahti may or may not be a literal Finnish River God.
In the game universe all of reality is said to be an ocean and the name for a finnish god of the ocean is Ahti.
Not just rivers. He is The finnish god of the oceans.
He said the old gods of Asgard are his friends
Pretty sure Ahti embodies/looks after the house independent of the board (who are parasitic enties worming their way into the oldest house).
