I was moved by your TH-cam video. My grandmother’s maiden name is Dingess. She has communicated several stories over the years about the family history and growing up in Mingo county in the 1930-1950’s. Apparently, the Dingess’s were known for their entrepreneurial endeavors (late 1800-1930’s) and association with the Hatfields. I have contemplated documenting my grandmother’s accounts multiple times over the years. It is my understanding there are several books referencing the family lineage and also an article published in the Smithsonian magazine (1999-2000) regarding two New York business men that “went missing” after a unfortunate encounter/misunderstanding with a couple of the Dingess clan. Keeping with the Appalachian art of storytelling, this heritage has been pasted down over several generations. It is an aspect of my family history for which I’m immensely proud and interested in preserving. Thank you for sharing your video!

Farley was my last name before I married. My grandmother was married 2 times, first to Carl Farley then to Barrett Hatfield. We left there in 1960 to Washington DC.

My Grandpa, Eli Fernandis Farley, born Feb.14,1877, helped mine and he and Mr. Dingess built the Chamber of Commerce, Coal House in Williamson, WV. I don't remember the year. I'm his granddaughter.

This was in my Suggestions today.
My team and I are exploring areas of Mingo County. Right now we are in Dingess and Wilsondale. We are paranormal explorers and we are following local folklore. I was wondering if you had any folklore you could share with us to aid us on our journeys.
    Thank you.

My mom used to send me through the tunnel to get her cigs on my bicycle back in the 80's. Back then there were hundreds of coal trucks through there. It would get rather interesting at times.

I've been trying fruitlessly to learn about my mingo county family... I know my great grandpa Jay bell savage died in a coal mine explosion. That's probably the most notable confirmed fact.

+mary white The original settler of that name in our state, Peter Dingess, is from, and buried in my home town of Oakvale, WV. He was at one time after the Revolutionary war, the largest landowner in the state! I am a Meadows from Mercer County's East River District; and like you, I will always love my WV home, LOL! God bless! :O)
