Thanks for the review and providing your perspective! You can always hit us up for a warranty replacement if any of the DI boxes go south rather than just throwing it out. :)
I bought a hosa sidekick about a year ago and I still have it no complaints here and im a bass player that has a few darkglass pedals on my board. now sure the darkglass pedals I have most come with a di but the order ive settled on I have to use a passive at end of chain so the hosa works just fine. the only mod I did to the hosa was I put a darkglass sticker on it to make it look more uniform lol hahaa but really the hosa does just fine
I actually have an active D I and want to have a passive for options on sound. My bass sounded better with the active D I . But my guitar and pedalboard worked just fine with an passive D I I used from club. I'm picky, just like to have my own stuff. Getting 1 of these.
Excellent review sir! I'm a bassist first, and a sound guy second - guess what DI box I use for either application? Ha! Tried the pricier versions for my bass rig and really couldn't tell a difference between them and this little guy. Needless to say, the pricey one went back, and I just use the Hosa DIB 443.
Hi. Thank you for Hosa Sidekick dib-443 review. I’m backing someone up on vocals and percussion. He’s using the Sidekick mentioned above. He plays guitar plugged into the 443 and out the xlr to the board. I also wish to take the “output” 1/4”’ from the sidekick into my Digitech Vocalist Live 5 Harmonizer to tell the Harmonizer what notes to add to my sung vocal note without interfering with the xlr output in any way, regardless of what adjustments I make on the harmonizer on the fly. Will that work on the Sidekick Dib-443? Thanks if you know. I’ve been completely unable to find a manual online to download.
Hi Man ! I bought the Hosa dib 307 (10 euros in France in a pawn shop yesterday) and it sounds good ... Like you i'm sure it's not the big deal to spent milions about a DI ! Cheers.
You just validated my theory. None of these sound different from each other. Sweetwater even has an A/B test you can hear each one. Here's the thing, festival sound is a lot different that studio sound. In the studio you get one chance to make an awesome track before it's released to millions of poeple. Every minor detail matters, In that case you want the $900 Avalon DI. But for live sound, these things get trampled on, get stolen and most of the time are being plugged into crappy keyboards or bass guitars anyway. I would say own 1 or 2 fancy DI's for that headliner with his $4000 martin acoustic, and the rest have run of the mill DI's.
A dumb question since I am practically new in terms of DI boxes, if I plug my hx stomp into Input, can I use the Output for my on-stage monitoring frfr and the xlr out into the FOH?
I just bought one of these, I'm quite confused as which switch position us which. Like which switch position is line or instrument and which switch position is the ground being lifted. Thanks in advance
I always assumed on the instrument/line switch I was instrument and II was line. On the ground lift switch I assumed I was ground and II was ground lift. Although these don't come with manuals so I cannot confirm. I just leave both switches on I and if I have an issue then I'll flip the switches. Sorry I'm not more help with the answer to this question.
@@TheAngrySoundTech it's already a big help. It seems these things don't come with manuals even online manuals. They also use switch labels that is not quite used. Thank man. I'll be testing mine out this coming Sunday.
You can play around with these switches. Ground lift for eliminating ground buzzing sounds heard from the speakers while the other switch, I noticed, when toggled affects the gain/volume transmitted. I'm not a sound guy but that's what I've observed when on live gigs.
Hi sir. Good day. Im from the philippines. I bought 1 sidekick d.i box. From soundtech prespective, is this good to use on a tabletop electric drums? Thank you sir. Live strong.
I think you'd be just fine. That's the DI that I use for everything (Electronic Drums, Acoustic Guitar, Bass). I really can't hear a difference when people use more expensive DI's. I actually did a show recently where the touring guy had his own DI he wanted to use and I got a distorted over driven signal the whole show. It didn't sound good and I had wished he would have let me use my Hosa Sidekick. He probably spent 10 times as much on his as I did on the Hosa.
I'm using the same HOSA DIB 443 for my tabletop electric drums - another reason is to protect my self-contained portable audio system. Yamaha DD75 on a Fender Passport Venue.

thanks for the review. i've been looking at getting a DI box to plug into the board at my jam sessions and this was the ticket!
I ve had one for 13 years, just picked up a second one..no complaints.
good day sir. what is the proper way of connecting using this direct box from the instrument to the stage monitor and mixer? thanks

They're definitely pretty solid for the price!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this opinion! lol

can i connect this to a 30 meter stage cable?
Will it work with a cb radio 1/4 TS mic?
I wouldn't see why not. Although I'll admit I haven't tried it.
