RD and RT are used for different purposes in an MPLS VPN. The RD is responsible for keeping all prefixes unique in the BGP table whereas the RT is used to exchange routes b/w VRFs. The RT export gets attached to routes that we advertise to other PE routers. When a PE receives a route from another PE, it compares RT values attached to it against RT import for its VRFs so as to accept or reject routes. Hope this clears the confusion :)
Should you clear what happened with RD at peer router.. suppose Rd tagged with route and passed through mpls cloud and reached at peer where customer other site has connected. What happened with RD value. Is it removed?
Excellent Explanation in such a short video to understand the Basics of RD/RT . Awesome . Thanks . Keep it up . Pls make a video for practical with 4-5 vrfs

can a export router target be used instead of rd? I don't see why we need both a rd and export rt.

@@OurTechPlanet So basically every PE router should have its unique RD per VRF? But can two different PE routers have the same RD for a customers VRF?
Great video!!!
Thanks mate.
what a great explaination. :) congratulations and thanks for a hard work you put on this video.
Thanks mate. Glad to learn that it helps :)
Should you clear what happened with RD at peer router.. suppose Rd tagged with route and passed through mpls cloud and reached at peer where customer other site has connected.
What happened with RD value.
Is it removed?
RD is a 64-bit identifier that gets appended to an IP address in the MPLS cloud only so that the 96-bit VPNv4 address becomes unique.
what a great explanation. keep up the good work 👏
Thanks, Sajid.
Nicely explained. Great job.
Thanks, Saman :)

Thanks Sanjay. Sure, will try to do it soon.
thanks for the videos
You are welcome, Monty.
So the RD 1:1 and 2:2 are just arbitrary numbers? Could be 8:8 and 4:4 ?
Yes, can be an arbitrary number as long as it remains unique for each VPN/customer. For convenience, the common RD format is ASN:xx
@@OurTechPlanet Thank you, that clears it up for me then
Well explained, Thank you!
