Stayed on Coop St in 1950s , top end, with mum and dad and 3 brothers all in one family room..........very squashy. We went back a few times, the lady who served our meals was called Lillian and the family who owned the guest house had a white poodle and a daughter a couple of years older than me. Funny what you can remember from over 60 years ago
I know it was operating in ‘82 because I stayed there with my parents and sis. I was 10. lol. We had gone for years but Mrs Senior went ballistic when we got back late one night. That was our last stay. 🤣
There are some lovely features in that house, if you look beyond the squalor. When there has been time, lots of money and loads of work put into it, then I'm sure it could be stunning. It's easy to imagine what it was like all those years ago, with one shower for all, and one toilet on each floor. I don't think that Mr Rigsby would have been out of place there. Great video Stephen, made me feel sick at times but very funny too. Devastation..... 😂 xxx
Actually I think someone might have been living there until 10/20 years ago, perhaps the business stopped 40 years ago but the handrails on the top stairs look like the ones social services put in and the shower seems to be in better condition. The rooms look tiny but of course guests were sent out straight out after breakfast and not allowed back until teatime so people were only sleeping there.
I do enjoy this type of video as it gives a real insight into how things were in the 70's & 80's & what was acceptable then compared to what folk expect nowadays, good to see before it's gone forever
Great video. I stayed at Beaumont House which is no.26 Coop St in 1995 with my mates. Got on well with the proprietors Ernie and Tina. They have a son called David and a daughter whose name I forget. Sad to see Beaumont House derelict now, it's the one on the video with black plastic covering the front of the building and windows smashed with curtains hanging out at the back. I know Beaumont House was still open in about 2005 because I called in whilst visiting with my family and spoke to Ernie.
Nice bit of urbex there Stephen, I bet there's many more buildings like this in Blackpool, but I know through watching your other videos that a lot of demolition has gone on in recent times as well.
Hi Stephen, I think that property was abandoned a lot less than 40 years ago given the fairly modern shower unit and low energy lamps in some rooms. It would be interesting to find out but I think more like 20 years since it was last occupied and maybe less.
My thoughts as well, I used to fit showers like that in the early 90s for Norweb, if he’d looked in the meter cupboard there would have been a dated installation label if that was a Norweb install (it probably was, they would have done 100+ a week at that time). It’s likely it was closed as a guest house 40 years ago, the decor would have been dated even then. One things for sure, it’s going to be a money pit for someone, guess it will be made in to and air bnb, that seems to be the thing at the moment.
We stayed at Netherton House on Coop Street, 8 or so years ago. There were huge cracks in the walls, and our bedroom was literally slanted. The building caught fire in 2019, and is in the process of being renovated (apartments I think). As you walk round the back of Coop Street (as you showed in your video), there’s an old bar/pub, that’s equally as dilapidated - might have had a fire too. Great video, Stephen 👍
Well, I can see where Silent Hilll got its inspiration from. On a more serious note, I'm always surprised just how far back the houses seem to go in Blackpool. So much bigger than other terraced houses.
So sad to see abandoned buildings, that were once full of life. Roughly the same floor plan as the Dorchester at 56 Reads Ave, in the early '70's, but with smaller hallways. Brilliant to see Stephen, another great video.
Always stayed in Coop Street in the late 70s & 80s. The Langston family owned 10 & 12 Coop Street, lovely family. So many memories and it breaks my heart to see that area now so dilapidated.
That was fascinating. I love seeing old abandoned houses and a glimpse into the past. Such a shame it can't be rescued and renovated to its former glory or into a family home rather than more 'luxury apartments' which will no doubt have bad sound proofing as most converted houses do.
Hi I can assure you it will have fantastic sound proofing new roof windows self contained flats modernist to the highest standard thanks for watching there will be a video halfway through modernisation and one at the end 🤩
Hi Stephen, you certainly took a walk on the wild side when you walked into that property that had been unused for 40 years, you should have put safety gear on as you took a risk, Hope you have got great insurance cover as you need it for your job walking on the wild side in Blackpool. But at least you made it out safely. Another very interesting video from you. 👍👍👍
Hard to believe this building has been left for 40 years. Only now has it found a buyer. I wonder if the buyer who is to convert this, into flats has purchased the neighbouring properties also. It would be easier to rebuild, than renovate this place. Great video Stephen. You got to see the last of the place, before massive changes come. Another long lost old B&B gone forever.
It may look a bit rough in places, but with so many gorgeous original features still there, in the right hands it will make a great home 👍 The original stained glass panels can be integrated into modern double glazing, the doors and banisters will look great once the boards are ripped off and the non-rotten floorboards in many of the rooms should sand up nice. I’ve been restoring my house (built in 1833) for 2 years, and I hope the new owners here are just as sympathetic and salvage as many original features as they can; if they do, the place will look awesome when it’s done 👍
Great. But please assure me no grey paint was used in your sympathetic restoration. I detest anyone who thinks mid-grey is better than any other colour for decorating a period house.
@@quickclipsbyjmj I can 100% guarantee that zero grey paint has been used anywhere in my house lol! I have used a period-correct Oxford Blue in the kitchen..... and in homage to the original paint that is now lined-over, Paris Green in the living room! lol! Everywhere else is white, but with skirting board accent colours. I have also kept a mental 1950s Axminster carpet I found under 3 other layers in my bedroom and the bright blue 1960s bathroom suite
Some gorgeous Art Deco features, the doors and so deco and that box wood Curtain pelmet in the bedroom with the stain glass is beautiful my husband is actually made very similar out of MDF for a 1930s house
Such a shame to see derelict places in Blackpool. Hopefully the owner can transform it needs plenty of money though! Thanks again for another great video 👍
O wow I don’t know how the he’ll you went in that hotel I love the video. You are Brave Steven. It looks like people have been using the Toilets 🚽 sorry rather you than me. This hotel is big. If you can do Enough more videos like this. Fantastic video ❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thought this was your review of The Norbreck Hotel for a moment lol😁😁. Seriously though what a shame to let that lovely old building get in that state. No doubt the squatters had been using it as they see a right to use old buildings for their use despite trespassing. Will be interesting to see when the new owners progress with working on the building. Interesting that old key plate with “Hamilton House” printed on it, a wee bit of Blackpool history there. As for the fire escape contraption, a big no no and today’s health and safety it would never pass the test as one!
Fantastic video Stephen. The £1 licence will be a radio licence. They used to be issued up to the 1980s I think. One suggestion if you go into places that have been empty for a long time, to wear a mask due to black mould and bird faeces or possible asbestos.
So no lucky room 13? That fire rescue cord looks like it would rip out its fitting from the wall the moment someone tried to use it and send them tumbling over the top of the roof tiles towards the ground. lol

It can't have been completely derelict for 40 years as there is an LED light bulb in a few of the sockets and they've only been around for about 15 years.
Thank you for that video Steven, We have been coming to blackpool for a long time and can remember when all those guest houses was open and in business, are you going to do any more like this as we like looking into old abandoned quest houses ?.
Lets face it it wasn't really a shower......from what I can recall a lot of landlords/ladys were tight fisted swines and proper amenities were way down their list....I'm still itching.
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always I think I stayed there last week lol the carpet where I stayed was minging I had to throw my slippers away but omg you was very brave touching the kitchen cupboards yuk lol but with a lot of money could be so nice again take care xx
Sad to see this , I wonder what it was like in the 60s , 70s? when Blackpool would have been very busy with tourists , it's not the only guest house that had ended up like this, for years Blackpool has been on the decline, I wonder what Blackpool will be like in another 40 years ? 🤔
Hi, as you commented they must have been a smoker, back in the day it would have been common for guests to walk around hotels & guest houses smoking a cigarette
