  • Pair of Siamang Gibbons singing a duet at Howletts zoo
They were so loud, we could hear them from all over the park. Was an incredible thing to witness, and apparently quite lucky to hear them as the usually only sing once a day, and can be just a few minutes, but when we visited, they went on for about an hour.
Found in Malaysia, Thailand and on the island of Sumatra, the siamang is the largest member of the gibbon family and has one of the loudest calls of all primates, enhanced by their large throat sac.
Pairs of siamangs sing duets, with the male and female taking different parts. Their diet mainly consists of fruit, but will also consume leaves, insects and flowers.

Howletts Zoo and the Aspinall Foundation sister park Port Lympne reserve are well worth checking out, we had an incredible couple of days hanging out with the animals and camped in a tent overnight in Bear Lodge.
