      You're right but you're not gonna win a fight against a corporation. By that same logic America takes advantage of it's citizens via income taxes, so what are you gonna do? There are some fights you just can't win whether you like it or not. That's life.

    • @fighterpimp
      @fighterpimp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      how do they have unfair monopolies? There is so many stream providers, cable providers and other type of providers that allow access to TV shows. Those cable companies pay smaller less know production companies money to be shown on their channels. Omi used pirated software to hack into the providers and stream those shows and not give any money back to those production companies. Those companies are loses money. It isn't the cable company that suffers its the smaller companies trying to make legit businesses that now don't get there shows picked up again due to lack of funding from cable companies. They see that those shows aren't worth the price and move onward due to less views.

    • @soundsofmassproduction
      @soundsofmassproduction 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      @@fighterpimp you are being obtuse. the amount of money to compete with cable providers makes the marketplace a monopoly. especially when said providers are owned by mega corps that can afford to pay lawmakers to keep the marketplace & laws in their favor. I guess it's fine for corporations to use "loopholes" but not for a regular citizen for you eh? FYI. You'll never be in the 1%.

      Of course they are. This is no different from Napster. If you look at Pay Per View and don't pay, you know you're stealing it. You can argue whatever you want but you know it's not legit. If you're going to make a killing taking advantages of loopholes like that and you rub it in people's faces, they're going to get mad. People steal services all the time and no one cares or gets in trouble, but you brag about "Look how much of a baller I am" - that encourages others and others so who the hell wouldn't get upset. It's so easy to call other people greedy for not wanting their shit stolen, but let someone tap into your electrical line and cable line (which is a very good analogy for it), no big deal, drives your costs up a tiny bit but no big deal. Now let 15 people share your electric water and internet, they use all they can b/c it's free, at some point it chokes off yours and you have to spend more money to even keep things working. Now Imagine these same people packing it and selling it "Don't be a sucker paying Electrical, Cable and Cell Service, pay me $100.00 a month and you can get all three (but they sell the lines into your stuff). Would you be pissed off? Then you ask them to stop and they call you greedy and have people jeer at you.
      I bet every single person in this thread that is criticizing the companies or saying No Big Deal would absolutely be infuriated if the same thing was done to them

    Ugh. I'm super conflicted about this one. I could care less about giant multi-billion dollar CORPORATION getting scammed. I used to work at a call center contracted by one of those cable providers and they would constantly make us try to upsell the customers on "digital" products that had no real utility or physical value, create "trouble tickets" for a technician to be at the home only for that technician never to show up. If the cable providers don't exist, neither does the cable TV service. So, if that becomes the case... Would folks such as Omi and others find ways to deliver TV shows for the same cheap price? You don't simply do that by decoding a signal.

It is incredibly expensive to maintain the infrastructure, but more importantly to increase the speeds like they have in the past 20 years is crazy expensive . My first broadband connection in 2002 was 100 kbps for like 80 a month. Today for 80 a month I get 150 mbps. Sorry dude, I'm with Omi on this one, if there was a loophole and he found it and made money, kudos to him. The companies you're trying to make us sympathize with, do they exploit loopholes in tax systems and avoid paying bucketloads of their rightful share of tax? Do they use loopholes to exploit their employees? Do these telecom companies exploit loopholes to provide shitty service, after taking payment from you? Don't bother to answer, the questions were rhetorical
    To explain with your example, if somebody had their car stolen by their neighbor because they found loophole in the law, would I feel aggravated on their behalf? No, not really... if that somebody had bought that car, paid for gas by themselves exploiting loopholes and screwing over the society at large.

      "he wasn’t scamming anyone"
      Why do you say that?
      Scam is:
      "a dishonest scheme"
      Do you think it's honest to exploit a loophole in the law and make millions from it, then pretend like what you are doing is legit? If he thought it was legit, why is he asking lawyers if it's legit? If you started a business and are not doing anything wrong, would you keep asking lawyers if it's legit? Would you also be concerned about if it's legit or not, but then never speak to the people who you are potentially scamming? IF it's illegal he would know it would be on a basis of copywrite. So why not contact the copywrite holders instead of just asking a person who works for you?
      This is just like Trump. When people like a person, it's hard to see the truth. A gangster with tattoos who is loud and looks the part could do a scheme that gets them $500 total and would get a lot of negative feedback from the public as a "worthless criminal thug". i agree with you, what he did was illegal and he should be punished to the letter of the law. but in this instance everyone feels sorry for him because he comes across like a cool dude compared to other rich guys, on social media, which is super refreshing, and he ultimately stole from big faceless corporations. secretly we ALL wish we could stick it to the man like he did, but i fear Omi did this to himself, if he wasn’t so braggadocios and inconspicuous with his spending habits a part of me feels like he wouldn’t be in so much trouble. but then again who am i to say, for a few years he got to live most peoples dreams, with the cars and houses etc, even if the run was short he did it and no-one can take that experience away from him 🙌

      What he was doing wasn’t illegal. They changed the laws to make it illegal after they indicted him. He simple found a loop hole in how the laws were written. I dont like how Spencer isn’t making that very clear in the video. Spencer is saying what he did is illegal simply because he took the big companies content but in actuality the law didn’t say what omi was doing is exactly illegal. If you want to say it was unethical then thats your opinion but he technically didn’t break the law but due to his skin color I doubt the “ justice system “ will be on his side regardless on what the actual law says

    To your point in thinking it’s funny when ppl incriminate themselves - I agree but that’s a caveat we always come across..”I wish he’d just own up to it!” Vs “man he’s dumb for saying he did it”. Imo Omi was always under the impression that his big fuck up was not paying the right taxes. Turns out it’s much worse and the feds weren’t giving him any info on that matter which is what drove him into depression (he’s not that savvy in that area as we can tell by now).

    The cable company actually restreams from satellite providers. The new law keeps small cable companies from forming. You keep saying he stole from cable providers according to the old law he was running under; he was the cable company. You have to understand the first cable companies were just taking antenna transmissions and provide if customers out of range of those transmissions a way to obtain the content, such as this that live in a valley or in rural areas. Since the antenna transmissions were public domain the cable company can charge for the device even though technically they are receiving it for free. The infrastructure involved in providing the cable service costs money and so it’s not even unethical to charge. Omi was operating under that law, that had not been updated. Bankers and stock brokers do similar grey area dealings and use the law to their advantage. As of 2020 this is now illegal but as Omi said this is actually a civil matter to be dealt with in civil court between the satellite providers and himself. This is not a criminal case.

    Seems like he had a point. If the law was written in a certain way and he designed his business to not violate the law then he's good. Corporations do it all the time, usually to harm individuals, so nobody should complain about individuals doing it even if it hurts a corporation.

    Almost everyone I know uses IPTV, which pretty much gives you all sports, movies, ppv, pretty much everything you can think about, for $10.... Some of the stores selling the boxes and the subscriptions sell it in the open, there stores look like professional cellphone stores and the only thing they sell is this illegal streaming service. Some locations have easily 10k customers, that's 100k a month, asked the guy at the store "isn't this illegal", he smiled and said " no one cares "...
