The whole band rocks. Their individual ability and talents combined in an exponential manner making Big Country an amazing band, especially live... Stuart started a fire in his soul... burnt brightly and with amazing warmth.. but sadly ran out of fuel (reasons) and the fire died. Luckily thanks to TH-cam we can relive and enjoy those magic times.... especially Barrowlands live :)
I was fortunate to see Big Country three times... and they were amongst the best bands I've seen... way better than the so-called bigger bands at the time. Tony Butler and Mark Brzezick's bass and drums are the best and tightest you'll hear... Stewart's and Bruce's guitar riffs and harmonies were unique and unlike anything else. But it was Stewarts songs and melodies and presence that cemented the band... he would have every single person in the audience bouncing and singing for him with hearts full of joy... then during a quieter song, his lyrics would grab you and have you biting your lip... and praying your mates don't notice what a soft shite you are. 'In This Place' from their Peace In Our Time album gets me every time. Anyway... anyone that's been to a Big County gig or has any of their albums will know what I mean. You'll never be forgotten Stuart Adamson... Scotland's finest
Thanks @lochinver1929 - you have summed up the grestest live band ever perfectly. I was lucky enough to see them live twice - Glasgow Barrowlands the best!
Some so-so musicians are lauded after they die. Hagographies proliferate, they're almost sainted, yet little is ever mentioned about Stuart Adamson. He was as tortured as Ian Curtis, Kurt Cobain etc but there aren't the shrines and tributes to him the way there are for others (I mean media-wise.). He was one of the great all-round musicians and touched people deeply with his words, his name should be on the lips of everyone who dares to write songs or picks up a guitar. Under-appreciated in life and death.
I agree with you completely, the guy was a fabulous songwriter and had a lovely voice, and I thought that Ships was utterly beautiful, a very emotional song reminds me of "Chance".
Sheps with a "P," " and "people who are not afraid to admit that they have a referee's whistle." Stuart had such a great sense of humor and he was so kind to his audience. Many performers would be offended at such an "interruption," but Stuart embraced it and made it part of the fun. Thanks, Stu!!!
To hear this song and know he died alone is heartbreaking. And such a talented singer, musician and songwriter, perhaps he could have shown Nashville a thing or two :(
💕💕💕💕,brilliantly said Lisa ma friend,Stuart was and always will be the most important guy in my life after my dad, miss him more than anyone will ever realise,my heart still breaks xx
less then 14,000 views is a crying shame. This song should of been a top 10 song in the summer of 1991....Management and Record Studio failed this band in so many ways.
Silent souls, on forgotten shores, left to walk the sands evermore... evermore. Big Country are the soundtrack to mine, and so many others lives. RIP Stuart.
What a loss Stuart is 😢. Fantastic talent. Best live band ever 👌 saw them live several times. Dunfermline first time they played this was amazing. This and Alone both say so much about people and how lonely they can feel.
Flubs in the first half of the first solo and the outro make it that much more human and beautiful I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again “If my life ever depended on a band... there’s only one choice” RIP Stuart
Agree with G Deprest. This band was failed in so many ways..... or were they?? They lived their dream. They enjoyed life. They, all of them, produced superb music. Who lost out?? Us.. The fans.. But did we loose out?? How could we loose when we have such great tracks as this!!!
thank you so much for posting this, its hard to describe just how good this song is, a real anthem for the working class from one of our own. Wish you were still here stu. He stood in the storm, carved out of stone.
Great song. I would love to see the version which I saw on their tour in 1991 at the Aberdeen Capitol which featured just Stuart on guitar. It made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
better than kurt cobain or the rolling stones or u2--this guy was the real deal..my hero discovered...he wasn't shallow enough to get the vile music industry to celebrate his talent
Stopped listening to BC when they stopped sounding like they did when they started - like many people - which is probably why their popularity declined. I still miss Stuart to this day - and listen to the first 3 albums regularly - Stuart RIP
Simply amazing ,,,,, Who still thinks Stuart rocks today ???? His music never feels dated even today ,,,
suz x I think he still rocks, listen to bc most days.Nobody's ever come close to Stuart as regards singer-songwriter.Stay alive:-):-).
Definitely Steve :)

One of my fav all time bands, we lost a wonderful, unique voice when Stuart left us.
There is a lovely bench in memory of Stuart in his beloved Dunfermline.
@@mrwilliecowie, I know this !!😊

I so agree
Breaks my heart. 😰
No one knew how close to the edge he was, how alone. Depression kills.
Wish someone could of saved you

I Miss You So Much Stuart..
You Would Be Still Be Such A Talent In This Violent Twisted World Today
He will never be gone, I listen to them every day
A song writer at his very best. Such a fantastic song. Anyone would be proud to have written this.
Got goosebumps watching this. An amazing voice and a truly amazing guy. The world is lost without you. If only we had more time with this true legend
Great song. It's really sad he is not still around.
Fucking love this band!!! Stu was such a cool guy!!!!!!
Why doesn't this have more view....brilliant....
I hope this guys Music and Talent endures as it deserves. All Gods Bless Stuart Adamson
You can take a boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy. Its awesome that Stuart is using a B-bender telecaster here.
I always wondered who the hell was playing the pedal steel on this song. Turns out it wasn't a pedal steel at all!
What a loss Stuart is 😢. Fantastic talent. Best live band ever 👌 saw them live several times. Dunfermline first time they played this was amazing. This and Alone both say so much about people and how lonely they can feel.
A master of music!
I still can’t believe he’s not here anymore 💔
Stuart could've had Nashville in the palm of his hand right now. A rare talent and i miss him greatly

They were let down by bad management, Ian grant ripped them off and still tried to rip them off after stuart's death
@TyriaelSoban i have loved this band since they started - got to see Stuart perform live on his own - one of my best memories RIP Stuart xxx
I loved Stuart's music from the beginning...Skids....Big Country.... The Raphaels. He wrote "stay alive'" on my CD's, I only wish he had
Stuart, you are missed...
My favourite song of all time - brilliant
Their masterpiece IM0. Great quality on this live recording. Where were we when his ship went down?
What a gig to have been at! On fire that night!
An amazing song by one of the most under rated band's to come out of the UK. JP Canada
Magic
If only I could at least watch him/them live ONCE. ❤️
Thanks for sharing!
I saw them open with this song in Dublin’s Olympia around this time. It seemed like Big Country and Dublin audiences were made for each other.
Hi ahlustik, the name of the drummer is Chris Bell, and you're right , he's very good! I'm glad you like their music. This band is fantastic! :-D!!!!
Thank you Stuart and the boys..underated is not a long enough word for this band..
thank you so much for posting this, its hard to describe just how good this song is, a real anthem for the working class from one of our own. Wish you were still here stu. He stood in the storm, carved out of stone.

fuckin awesome
💖💖💖
Quelle voix..Stuart
I have mixed feelings about the John Tesh keyboard arrangement. It kinda reminds me of the theme from Alf. Any comments?
ShiPs, with a P!
That intro is classic. And the referee whistle comment, hilarious.
❤
U said, where were you@@@
Stay alive Mr Adamson!
:-)
Much prefer the version with only Stuart and the Piano.
Stuart totally messed up the final lead lines and had to ad-lib it. He's never been good at ad-libbing, even all the way back in The Skids days.
meine jugend 🥱😫
