Finally, with the adoption of an Islamic name, its not an Islamic rule but something that have been practiced for a long time and has been accepted as a norm.
Secondly, there was someone who was named after one of the numerous deities worshipped in Mecca. On the person's acceptance of Islam, the Prophet told the person to change his name to Abdu Rahman.
However, I think Africans should stick to their African names rather than adopting Arabic names which sometimes have very funny and sometimes dangerous meanings.
