Player skill will ultimately affect your dps, but touching the godly region of dps can only be achieved by whaling. But weapons and constellations, they are what's near impossible to get for the casual players. Getting a 5* weapon is already hard, getting it to lv5 refinement doubles it's power. Same with 5* chars at c6, it doubles their power. So if you take into account just weapons and constellations, his maxed-out chars already outdamage your maxed-out same chars with the same 5* weapons by 400%. Take into account 3 other fully-geared supports and the difference increase to at least 1000%. And I'm only factoring in that you have same chars and weaps. So yeah, a fraction of Tony's godliness translates to money. To c6 a 5* char you need at least $1500, to r5 a 5* weapon I'd say around $700. So maxing 8 chars for Abyss is $17000. A fraction of that, 1% = $170 is 11 Welkin and BP. That's 338 pulls if you played since patch 1.0, and that's enough to build good weapons and constellations for 8 abyss chars. Even if you have shit skills, having a fraction of his money at low level gameplay will still increase your dps by a whole damn lot like those shitty whales you mentioned.
Mihoyo put Barbara in the latest banner, released the outfit for her, and then put a pyro abyss mage in both half of chamber 3. Man they're so desperate to make us build her considering we only have 2 4* hydro character 🤷🏻
The actual explanation is because Amber Q is one of the fastest abilities at procing his R5 Elegy's full stack (~0.8s). Along with C6 and Noblesse, you're essentially getting a free 75%atk bonus at a very low 40 energy cost. This is a very whale-oriented support method, but also pretty much one of the best offensive party boosts available.
Finishing 12-3 with the same time left as Tony feels like an accomplishement to me with my C0 team comps. Altho I only first tried up to 12-2, then I kinda struggled to get the last star in 12-3 until I swapped teams.
Tbh, it would have been more surprising if you didn't manage to beat it 12 stars first try. But I also see they already built the abyss to support Kazuha. Guess my Sucrose can shine again.

12-3 is imo hardest of all in current as well as previous abyss, that herald is such a pain
