As a tool on the tools, knee deep in god knows what, I can say without fear of contradiction that torque absolutely matters to me. Tight spots only get tighter with each new vehicle, and when I can jam my electric or air ratchets into a tight spot and break a bolt loose, I'm ahead.

    • @kevinross5374
      @kevinross5374 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Jake Pulver completely agree! I have the regular @35 and brushless @55 Milwaukee, definitely nice that the 55 can break most bolts loose on its own so long as I can squeeze it in somewhere. The 35 is nice when you need a much smaller head but have room to swing

professional Auto tech here. I have used all of those ratchets and even though the little milwaukee is not the most durable of the bunch, it is the one that makes me the most money. It fits everywhere, its like 89bucks or something like that, tool only. If used to run nuts and bolts on and off you wont have issues. If you use it to break them free as if it was a breaker bar, you may break it... I hope Milwaukee never stops making it. I prefer it so much that i would buy a new one every few months if i had to. It saves me so much time. I own 2 of them and they both work great.

I love my earthquake ratchet. It is reasonably priced and reasonably skookum. The batteries seem to last pretty long so far. I've had it for about a year and it still works great. I can't say that about a lot of harbor freight electric tools.

      @RyTrapp0 5 ปีที่แล้ว

The only real downside seems to be the battery charger not delivering enough juice. Maybe the 90 day warranty, if you care about that kind of thing.
Otherwise, it would be my hands down choice - if I didn't have a garage full of red batteries already(not that I'm saying I wouldn't take that path again; I need a lot of the typical 'lineup' tools and tend to buy based on the battery since that's usually the first death, and Milwaukee seems to get universal praise in that regard)
Edit - actually, make that "comparable juice" rather than "not enough"

Polygonal cutter attachments for CNC turning machines are pretty badass to see, but a fairly specialized setup for large production runs or running a large family of similar parts since it'll take you a while to recover the cost on five-figure tooling (if you're buying from Teutonic companies).
They leave great finishes but it looks like the manufacturer practically had the cutter running in G00 because of the brutal surface finish.
You can definitely also do this with an endmill side-cutting while the spindle is turning on a 5-axis turning center. We do this a lot using profitmilling/turning toolpaths (at least that's what EspritCAM calls it, 1,000+ IPM at full depth of cut engagement
) and control our X, Y and C axes simultaneously. It's nearly as quick as polygonal and more flexible (polygonals are limited to only surfaces based on n/2 inserts attaching to the rotating cutter body).
Honestly, I like an old lady watching all these new tools with non-rubber overmolding that often gets gummy and gross. I much prefer getting frostbite from running my older metal-bodied Dotco, Cleco, and Aro tools.

If your starting fresh keep alook out for milwaukee m12 brushed kits. You can find 5 tool sets with the ratchet for under 200 sometimes. You'll find the same kit on sale for 3 or 400 tho so it's a waiting game for the right time to buy.

I love/hate my snap on one. It’s a bloody ripper but after using the tool for 1.5 years I’ve had it rebuilt 3 times, yeah sure I use it every day working on trucks and it sees a lot of hard work. I kinda need reliable tools and after paying like $650ish for it I thought snapon would of covered more then 1yr warranty so I’m looking at the Milwaukee one now. It’s just a shame because when it’s not broken it’s a really good tool. Working on cars or lighter duty stuff this tool would be the pinnacle of every job. Plus don’t forget to grease it every morning.

      Sodomy
You must think it very odd of me
But I enjoy the act of sodomy
You might call the wrath of God on me
But if you tried it then you might agree
That you enjoy the act of sodomy
Don't worry if you feel ashamed
      It's been around for years
Thousands more than can be named
      Are interested in rears
      Don't worry about hell
No harm will come to your soul
      We're not all Pentecostal
      But everybody's got an asshole
Let me tell ya 'bout sodomy
You must think it very odd of me
But I enjoy the act of sodomy
You might call the wrath of God on me
But if you tried it then you might agree
That you enjoy the act of sodomy
It might just improve your sex
It's a hard act to follow
      The fact that fundamentalists
      Find difficult to swallow
So join me as I sing
      Of an activity that's fun
      Open up your ring
And try it front to bum
      Bum-bum
      Bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bu m-bum
The guy who wrote that song made Lord of the Rings.

I have the Earthquake ratchet and did a video review on it. Max tightening torque was 30 lb.ft in my research. It has worked well for me so far and the battery does last a pretty decent time before recharging.

6:10 Actually havin it be a tight fit to change the direction of the ratchet is helpful, when you’re in tight spots, it keeps ya from accidentally changing direction of the ratchet by hitting it on something

Have used all of these cordless ratchets. I use a cordless ratchet at least four days a week through out the my day. I bought the EQ XT as a lark, fully expecting to return it when it failed to chooch. However, having my son borrow my Milwaukee without noticing, I found myself onsite with only the EQ XT which I did charge, but had just been carrying it around. I was a little annoyed at the thought of turning a wrench all day again.....but that's how we started, so I soldiered on.
My exact words were "HOLY SH*t!!!" I was impressed with the damn thing more than the MigMax 220 and Protig Vulcan's which also surprised me. I LOVE this damn thing and I wanted to comment on the statement that the user places all the torque through leverage into the wrenching action, the EQ XT doesn't twist (minimal moment of force is fed back to the user). Instead it strikes like a small impact with a decent anvil. No idea how they get that amount of repetitive impact mechanically (unable to disassemble to see how) but I swear that if you could create an ideal experiment where moment arm is identical, acknowledging you get a mechanical advantage with all three, but I would guarantee the moment of force, and over all energy input into the action, is noticeably less using the EQ XT. I use this thing everyday now.
Downside, yeah I get annoyed when I set it down on the trigger and it is the singular tool I have that uses its own battery. If it hadn't genuinely impressed me it was going back to the store because I have 22 Hitachi 18V 3Ah batteries and since Metabo/HPT have decided to reduced the variety of tools available in my market, I have been slowly moving to Makita tools and have about 10 batteries. Yes I HATE having a battery for just this one tool, but after using it, contrary to my own expectation, I decided it was worth the hassle.

Been running a 1/4 inch snap on ratchet for over 3 years now. Havent had a single issue with it. Never sent it in. Works like it did since day 1. I use mine every day. Even had the thing drenched in water from snow covered cars and the thing still works great. I have heard of people breaking the male end you click your socket onto in the 3/8's drive. but the 1/4 inch gets the job done and was worth every penny.

@AvE If you are wanting speed with these types of ratchets have a look at the makita 12v WR100D!
800rpm, lockable trigger, interchangeable anvils 3/8” & 1/4” only downside to it is that it utilises makita’s slide battery’s so it is a bit longer and more cumbersome than the ratchets in this video but well worth the look!

I have the 1/4" and 3/8" in the first gen snap-on. I've had them for several years, bought them when they first came out. I've never had any trouble with them, and I use them daily. I know the Milwaukee and harbor freight guys are going to say I got ripped off, I over paid, and the other tools are better etc, but you get a lot more than just the tool with snap-on, you get real customer service. I think that's worth the extra expense.

Ive had my earthquake xt 3/8 for almost 2 years now, used it every day in a shop environment. She's not as strong as she used to be, but still going. You can't compare this with the snap on, but it definitely feels better then the low level Milwaukee mainly because the metal handle provides more rigidity at the moment of torquing down where as the plastic ones feel like their going to break at this point.
