In 1969 my mom went Addis Ababa and she came back to our home we were living in shewa kifle Hagar. Then, my mom said, ( General Tafari Bant and other killed each other's). Said , my mom to us by scary sound . I was 5 years old boy at that time. Very very heartbroken history!!! Yes, we lost many educated people in Last 50 years That is why Ethiopia faced very very serious Political and economy problems. We lost so many educated people!!!
Look at a comment here by one Mathew Assefa and you will get your answers to the question why Mengistu Hilemariam was so cruel on the Ethiopians he mercilessly and blindly finished. He lived all his life being called 'Bariaya' and then he was among the few who were handpicked and sent to stage a coup. We also remember the fact that Mengistu used to be a trouble maker in the 4th army division where he was originally based and the reason behind his being sent to Addis was to get rid of him in the wish that he would go and perish in the process of overturning the Emperor's government. But he ended up being the brutal head of the government using the opportunity very cleverly. Also look on TH-cam and listen to what the son of general Getachew Nadow said about his father regarding Mengistu Hilemariam in the army. In his words the general said to the army Mengistu Hilemariam is a very committed and brave soldier except his facial complexion being darker. By that general Getachew was prompting Mengistu in the eyes of the soldiers the general was commanding but Mengistu must have listened to that kind of nonsense like he was being cleansed of his being a 'Bariya' unsuccessfully. Call him 'Bariya' and then send him to get the opportunity of taking the government over which he did and the result should not have been a surprise.😆😅 By the way I always had this idea in my mind whenever I thought of Mengistu's cruelty until it was reinforced in my opinion by what I heard from Getachew Nadow's son on TH-cam in an interview he gave to Dereje Haile.
