Every fellow Sikh is requested to kindly start listening to Classical (Paramparik) Gurbani Sangeet, the way Shabads were sung by Gurus themselves and the way Shabads were sung in various Gurudwaras before "light" music took over. (Fun fact - if you like listening to modern day ragis, then you are most probably listening to "light" Gurbani - Gurbani sung in the incorrent raga, in the way filmy songs or ghazals or semi-classical pieces are sung. Come on people! Gurbani is not meant to sound like a filmy song or a ghazal.) Classical Gurbani Sangeet means singing the Shabads in the prescribed Ragas and most importantly singing the Shabad with utmost love and devotion, without rushing through the composition. It will take you a while to appreciate the beauty and depth of Classical Kirtan because nowadays everyone listens to "light" music. But I can promise you : if you listen with patience you will definitely enjoy the depth and the beauty of Classical Kirtan. Start listening to Puratan Ragis. Listen to Bhai Avtar Singh Ji's jatha who are a part of an unbroken Gurbani Parampara Tradition (link to the channel - th-cam.com/channels/LCGDOFTVm2-bJKFU6MLJzQ.html )
You all are encouraged to research on your own about Bhai Avtar Singh Ji, the Puratan Gurbani Parampara, and the parampara's latest exponent - Bhai Baldeep Singh Ji (a link to one of his videos with his Sangeet Guru Bhai Avtar Singh Ji- th-cam.com/video/mxSh4y3UzHA/w-d-xo.html ). I won't mention all the details here. All of the puratan compositions(some of which are believed to be compostions of the Gurus themselves !) are documented by Bhai Avtar Singh Ji and Bhai Gurcharan Singh Ji in their books (there are 2 parts) "Gurbani Sangeet Pracheen Reet Ratnavli". Note : No offence meant to modern ragis. The "popular" renditions of various Shabads are no doubt good quality compositions. But again modern compositions don't stand a chance before traditional compositions.
