  • Tutanota is one of the more secure and private Email providers available. It offers incredible encryption, goes above and beyond to respect user privacy, is open source, and has a really clean interface in its mobile and desktop apps. Tutanota offers a generous 1GB of storage on their free accounts, and has reasonably priced paid accounts.
Arguably one of the best Email providers that we have used.

I could not find a logout button. Do we just close out the tab and that effectively logs us out of the session?

Could you please tell us how to use it? Everytime I try to it requests a code but I don’t know what to do with it.

Thanks for the video but one question: Is there a way to make groups in contacts? Such as (example): Family, coworkers, sport teammates, etc.

Ed, unfortunately this is one key feature that Tutanota hasn’t added. They added this proposal to their GitHub 3 years ago and it still hasn’t been released or developed. It admittedly makes group emails more challenging.

With the Encryption feature, does it stop Phishing emails from outer sources if they're NOT members? Or does it only work between members currently? Also, very well done video!

Hey Monkey, thank you for the comment. It can be challenging to fully protect against phishing attacks, as there are a lot of factors involved.
Two great ways to protect yourself is by treating any Email you don’t expect with at least a little suspicion, especially if it asks for any personal information. And also by not clicking a link but entering the web address of the service in the browser yourself or from a known and trusted bookmark.
Tutanota can help with this by offering the warning when an Email’s origin can’t be validated and by giving a warning and showing the whole link when opening a link from in an Email.

Good job on the video but I am confused on a couple issues. At 2:53 you show what your calling the recovery code. What is this? I see several lines of text split into the right and left sides of the screen.
How would you use/enter that code?
Can I just go to the tutanota site on my phone and sign up there rather than using the app? It looks like I could. Will I be able to use the same tutanota account on my phone & computer?
    Thanks.

Jack’s Son, this odd view is caused by us blurring out the recover code used in the demo account. In your experience it will be clear and display the entire phrase. This code is primarily only used in the rare case that you need to recover your account and so should be protected and not shared with others.
Yes, you can sign up on a browser for a somewhat simpler experience and then sign-in on the browser, desktop app, or mobile app.

@@jehusecurity Yeah I just found all that out. I even mistakenly signed up under my wrong phone I intended to use but went to the other one and went there on the web and signed in no problem. That 2nd phone is the one I will continue to use it on. I just put a hot link on my phone screen to get right to sign in. Is there any advantage to having the app? I just don't care for it because it comes from the Google play store.
      Thank for responding.

    Hello
Can outlook express be used with tutanota?
    Thanx

    • @jehusecurity

Hello Headbangrr, thanks for watching our video! No, Tutanota cannot be integrated into a mailbox app like Outlook, Mail, or Thunderbird. They do have their own mobile and desktop app that works and looks well. Largely it seems like they restrict this because they want more control over how messages are encrypted/decrypted on the device for enhanced security.
Proton Mail does have a way of supporting this through a bridge application for desktop/laptop. So, if being able to have all your mail in Outlook is important for you then you might consider that. Otherwise Tutanota is a great choice.

Finding a username is a mission. Even if you type random gibberish, it says,"Email address is not available".. Really sucky user experience

    • @jehusecurity
      @jehusecurity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thabo, thanks for watch the video. Yes, the fact that Tutanota doesn’t recycle usernames is something that we considered as having an impact later on. We’re sure they did, too.
For now, there are multiple domain options to choose from besides the obvious (at)tutanota[dot]com. We imagine they’ll add more over time.
The whole reason for this is to prevent personal data leak or account take over/recovery from using abandoned email addresses tied to accounts. Generally, we find this to be a good thing even if it makes the signup process more… challenging.
