    I got a full ride from Benedict and I am just nervous because I'm from the West coast so the south is just very different for me you know? I'm used to modernized living and it seems pretty good so I'm just trying to keep my options open.

      Thank you sm for your support, but I think we’re talking about different kinds of Benedict College.
      Stony brook university has 6 dorming quads, and the dorm buildings in each quad are called “colleges”
      Not to mention that Stony Brook University is in Long Island, New York, which is definitely not the south.
      I think you’re looking for the Benedict College in South Carolina? (Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is there website I’m assuming www.benedict.edu)
      But congratulations on that full ride!!! That’s actually really amazing 😍😍😍

    Where is your room-mate? Also, the meal swipes that don't work in the winter....spill the tea

    • @TheBrownieinStony
      @TheBrownieinStony  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My roomie is back home in The Bronx! He just wanted to come back to a very empty room. A clean slate for a new semester if you will.
      As for meal swipes, they don't work during the winter semester, as the dining halls aren't open during then. However, when they are open, East Side Dining is open til 1 AM, and West Side Dining until 3 AM.

    • @nobeln.6793
      @nobeln.6793 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBrownieinStony So basically in winter, the dining rooms are all closed and you are required to cook for yourself or am I misinterpreting this?

    • @TheBrownieinStony
      @TheBrownieinStony  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nobeln.6793 I mean, you aren't "required" per se. If you have meal exchanges added into your meal plan, then you can use them whenever the SAC food court is open. Otherwise, you'd have to buy food, but cooking is so much more convenient.
      If you're ever running low on food and all, the Stony Brook Food Pantry is available too. No student should ever stay hungry, and while the food pantry may not supply you with what you need in comparison to a substantial meal plan, it's better than starving.

    Would you recommend dorming? And if so, was it easy to adapt to the new college lifestyle? Make friends?

    • @TheBrownieinStony
      @TheBrownieinStony  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally recommend forming, regardless of which college you attend, especially because it does give you that once in a lifetime experience. For stony brook, it honestly was easy for me to adapt, but that may be due to me being able to take care of myself at home for years. Be sure to know how to do some simple tasks like doing laundry, making your bed (especially folding fitted sheets), vacuuming, etc. Studio Ghibli helped a lot of my friends get motivated into doing these tasks, but Animal Crossing might help too.
      As for making friends, I found it pretty easy to make friends, but that's mainly because I try to go to where I'd usually make friends and I'm a pretty open person (if that makes any sense). Generally speaking, if you want something, you have to go to the places where others will be and go on from there. A lot of people on campus are hella chill, and chances are that people will want to be your friends too. So go to clubs, events, hall councils, dining halls, classes, etc. You'll never know who you'll find ◡̈

    Hey dude, I'm a huge fan of your channel! I enjoy your content so much, keep doing what you're doing!! I was wondering if you have any tips on how to go about going to SBU debt free? I never thought I'd be as in love with a university as I am with Stony Brook and I reall, really want to go (if I get in of course)! But the only problem is that I'd be applying out of state and I don't think SBU gives full scholarships..

    • @TheBrownieinStony
      @TheBrownieinStony  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Financial aid is a big concern everyone faces, but there are some ways to help minimize the amount of debt you'll haft deal with.
      The best possible way to be debt free is to look into ROTC programs if you haven't done so. Stony has an ROTC program here, and I actually met two people in my dorm who are so dedicated to it, and their finances are being taken care of.
      Of course, ROTC isn't for everyone, but there are some other alternatives. Stony Brook has a lot of scholarships (www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/finaid/undergraduate/types_of_aid/undergraduate_scholarships.php?accordion=panel-d13e1495) that you can look into! There are applications for them and they can give you a certain amount of money to help reduce the amount you'll hafta pay for college.
      There's a good amount of on-campus and off-campus jobs available in the area, so if you think you have the time to do a part-time job, then by all means, be sure to check those out!
      And we have the most popular option: Becoming a Resident Assistant (RA). If you become an RA, you'll be able to have your housing and meal plan covered by the university. Plus you'll be able to have the RA experience too, so that's cool.

    • @chobani420
      @chobani420 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I have one last question, and you may not even know the answer but I've been researching into SBU's Scholarships and I saw that they automatically consider applicants for merit based scholarships upon acceptance but the additional scholarships (the ones you linked), can you use more than one, that is if you win them of course! Hate to bother you man

    • @TheBrownieinStony
      @TheBrownieinStony  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chobani420 To my knowledge, each of these scholarships can be stacked depending on what the scholarships you're eligible for entail. Of course, I could be wrong about that, so it's best if you do reach out to the financial aid department!

    How do you get into the Benedict college dorm? I am majoring in CS and I haven't yet choose my housing plan. Can you give me a basic idea about the process?

    • @TheBrownieinStony
      @TheBrownieinStony  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you’ll be asked to choose a certain kind of undergraduate college before anything. You’ll be asked to rank them all from 1st choice to 6th. Benedict College is in the “leadership & service” Undergraduate college, but it’s also a good idea to look into the other ones to see if you’re more interested in what first-year experience you’d like to take on. Once you’re in an undergraduate college, you can then pick which dorm you want to be in. Each undergraduate college has their own quad associated with them, and each quad has residence halls called colleges. Benedict College is in H-quad for reference.

      Hey there! Sorry for the delay, it's Final Exams week here, so I'm taking care of those before updating the channel ◡̈.
      STEM in Stony is difficult, especially since it is a STEM school. There's really no sugarcoating when it comes to that. However, there are a ton of resources available for you to use that'll give you a greater edge, such as office hours, tutoring, TA hours, etc. Personally though, if you did a very good job in your STEM classes in high school, then you should be able to handle the workload.
      Humanities classes on the other hand are a lot more relaxed in difficulty (well, there's some that can be pretty bad, but generally it's pretty good). Resources are still available if there is some difficulty to your classes, and I highly recommend that you take advantage for that.

      TheBrownieinStony Hey I had another question. About how much does dorming cost?

    • @TheBrownieinStony
      @TheBrownieinStony  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crazycrafting7464 Housing for me is a little less than 7k a year for both Fall and Spring semesters. I'm living in a double room (2 people), but it can be cheaper by 15% if you're in a triple room (3 people). Winter housing was free for everyone, and that's something new that Stony Brook has done, though I'm not too sure if that's going to continue (but I hope so!). Summer housing does cost extra, but I'm not too sure how much that costs, as I haven't done any summer housing before. Just an FYI, housing costs can be eliminated completely if you become a Resident Assistant (RA).
