The older I get, I’m beginning to dislike cheap inconsiderate people because how did you think the bikini that cost £3 was going to be ethical from materials to wages. (Yes ,I know, most of these people obviously don’t care because they’re not the ones in the sweatshops).
TBH, I actually don’t feel bad for them. Most of these people whether they admit it or not are aware of shein using toxic chemicals and sweatshops. It has been popular on social media for a while now especially TikTok. These are the same people that when we talk about how bad it is to support these companies they’ll be making insensitive jokes in the comments talking about some they better ship my stuff on time and some straight up say they don’t care. Ironically, these are the same people in the west complaining about their minimum wage mind you in dollars and pounds, and they expect someone in horrid conditions making these garments to get quality????? Like a human being used fabric to sew a bikini and it’s being sold for £5 and you don’t feel even an ounce of sympathy??? Shame
They learn about the "third world" and think "oh, that's where there are poor people who just live horribly and die sometimes", so if anything horrible happens to us, it's only natural.
if there's no resorces to check if companies follow the standars or not, there should be a limit of incidents alowed, surpassed that limit, the company should be banned. that's how the company will take responsability for what they do
Exactly this. We rightfully educate and pressure each other socially not to support these industries (let alone single companies) but they wouldn't exist at all if they hadn't found major gaps in government enforcement around these regulations. We should be demanding these standards are kept on their end as well.
to be so fr if u are still buying from shein and temu despite the onslaught of damning information that is like.... immediately accessible about them then why are you even surprised that you are receiving literal foreign species in your orders. you know the hygiene and working conditions of those factories are fucked- its almost insulting acting that shocked and scammed when you know exactly what your paying for
Buying jewelry from Shein is hella ignorant though. People support these brands knowing there are issues in the prices but vanity is very hard to separate from core personality. 😂😂😂I hate cockroach...I wonder if Australia allows Shein to ship because they are VERRRRRRRY strict about what they let through customs especially from China. 26:05 BEAUTY PRODUCTS FROM SHEIN??? PEOPLE ARE BRAVE!!! 😢😮
@LolaMafia-jf2cq I am not feeling sorry for the lawyer but I'm noticing that she is caught between a rock and a hard place. She can't defend Shein without insulting the CCP. If she says we don't use labor camps, she acknowledges her government does that's why she said "You're being political", and that's the problem with communism and business - they become the same thing. She was being punched while tied up.
I'm not an expert in fashion but I since around October last year, I've been passively consuming fashion and style content in order to better learn about how things work. I'm also "not rich" and I'd ultimately like a wardrobe with clothes I enjoy but that also don't fall apart and will last. I think that unfortunately there's a kind of cognitive dissonance or a disconnect of some kind where a lot of people here in the West/Global North, who want to appear trendy or fashionable and have access to certain styles will say things like "well this is all I can afford if I want to be FASHIONABLE/ON TREND". Because clearly if they were hurting for clothing, they would definitely shop second hand. Unfortunately a lot of second/thrift shops have a lot of the same fast fashion clothing that people would just normally dump into a landfill (though still not much different than ordering new, as you mentioned.) I personally like to shop second hand, mainly for interior decor. But I am encouraged by your words that I could possibly spend $100-$200 and find some reliable good second hand clothing items. I just think a lot of people don't really know what to look for, how to go about it or don't have the really good second hand shops near them (not to mention those who buy up the really good items and sell it higher on Depop.) Still, it's pretty wild to me that people would rather keep their nasty orders from SHEIN rather than returning the items and vowing never to buy from them again.
Brilliant and informative video as always. Never bought anything from them, but makes you think if they are selling for such a low price, how much does cost to make? How much are they paying for the raw materials and what quality are those materials! And that's before you think of how much they are paying their workers. I took some unwanted Xmas decorations to the Salvation Army charity shop and while there I picked up two pairs of Marks and Spencer jeans and a sweatshirt - also from Marks and Spencer for £9. Yes £9 - that's my spring wardrobe sorted, when I added it up, if I bought them from M&S today it would be around £60!! Please keep up the great video's and please take us shopping with you next time you go!!
I buy junk clothes because I don't respect myself, which is fine, but somehow I didn't realize this three dollar (CDN) shirt I'm wearing was made in El Salvador until I saw this video. I have a bunch of crap like this, I wish I didn't buy it but it makes no sense to just throw it out now. I thought The Bargain Shop just got these shirts from some place that closed down and had a bunch of stock to get rid of, or that there was a bunch of material left over and someone made shirts out of it for some extra money. I feel pretty enraged by this information.
