Longtime Halo player myself. Halo 2 online "back in the day" is something I hold very dear. I agree with you that Halo should probably lean into the arena shooter. The genre is wide open right now. Sure, there's Quake Champions but it never reached levels of popularity like a reshaping of Halo could. Halo Infinite still just feels half-baked to me and a bit too tactical. That is not to give credit to the hard-at-work devs. Great video, keep the content coming 👍

I would be more than happy to try "halo: arena" or whatever, but I'm 1000% sure it would either flop harder than Halo 5 or somehow revive the arena shooter genre (something that I desperately want to happen sometime soon). Thanks for watching and commenting!

It's interesting that a lot of the points you made seem to line up with what the devs tried to do for halo 5. They made weapons and ammo more abundant in the campaign, made the player move quicker with sprinting and added a dash and other movement abilities like clamber, they basically made it closer to cod, and nearly every halo fan didn't like the changes. it felt good and did have a quite fun multiplayer (although halo 5's story was terrible) but it didnt FEEL like halo. I think the main difference is that halo is a much slower shooter, yes it takes a full mag to kill a grunt if you run-and-gun but it can also take only 1 pistol bullet to kill a grunt, which imo was how they intended you to play. The game isnt meant to be like doom, corridor after corridor of non-stop action, but instead is meant to be a more methodical push through challenges, utilising the limited resources and abilities you have to move on and win. I think because they were both FPS and both released around the same time cod and halo got grouped but I feel like they are quite different games and dont really need to be compared one to one. Really interesting video, cool to hear the 'other side' perspective of it all, keep up the good work!

I have only played Halo Combat evolved, 2, Reach (a bit) and Infinite (only the multiplayer) so far, but I look forward to finishing the trilogy- but the long time to kill is just ingrained in my Call of Duty imprinted brain: I don't like it. But, some things done here in Halo are so goddamn fun.
Thanks for watching and thank you for the thoughtful commentary!
