You're not meant to place them. That is the enigma of Exo. Time and time again reactors over the years have said the same thing you just did....the songs do not follow any specific structure within ANY album, with maybe the exception of their winter albums during the holidays. Very holiday-esque? But because they are known for all genres, and never sticking to a specific concept or theme, this is pure Exo. And they have many experimental songs that you either love or hate, but rest assured they will flex vocals, in some over-the-top ways sometimes....but you do find those gems that display incredible, beautiful vocals and harmonies that are unmatched. Unmatched. Kings. 💙🌺

The thing with EXO is that they don't usually follow the 'normal' trend of music. They have variety of genre in every album. But you can say, they are also known for being the RNB kings maybe because of their winter albums as well. And the crazy structure maybe because that's SM style. I remember one producer said it is so hard to submit a song for SM because they required a specific sound that fits their style.
Xiumin was really sad he couldn’t be there to make this album as he loves this sort music

Oh yeah, if you thought Monsta X were grown... they at least leave something to the imagination. EXO just say what's on their mind, no filters. That applies to their music AND their interviews, btw.
Obsession and EX'ACT are definitely their most experimental albums. These two albums stray the farthest from their signature R&B Pop sound, but they do it so so well! Groove is my fav song on the album, and top five fav EXO bsides; the vibes are just too immaculate.
I think the War is definitely one of their most experimental albums as well

Obsession was my entry to EXO. I remember when it was announced that they were making a comeback. The concept photos were so cool. I don't even remember me fully staning EXO but I was just so Down to follow their comeback. I watched all the stages, the MV, and so many reaction videos to this album 😂. It felt like a natural transition for me to fall in love with their music first. Over the years I've slowly watched some of their content. I'm like a closeted EXO-L hahaha I rarely talk about them but when I am with close friends I suddenly start talking about EXO all the time. Hahaha 🤣 I can't stop gushing about their music and vocals.

This album is wonderful! Jekyll is crazy because it´s about their lore, EXO & X-EXO
The Obsession album has an interesting narrative structure when looking at it in the context of the concept of X-EXO v. EXO. The album begins with X-EXO in Obsession, Trouble, and leads to a fight between the two groups in Jekyll. In "Jekyll," EXO attempts to cast out X-EXO. Then a transition occurs with "Groove" and "Ya Ya Ya" that leads to a more EXO second half of the album.
"Trouble" is my favorite song on this album, and the first time I listened to it with headphones, I slipped and fell on a patch of ice because I was blown away and not paying attention to where I was walking. It's use of syncopation is jarring, but alluring.
Obsession was easily the best album of the year. All the songs are classics
Aaaah this album kills my soul lmao Wait no it feeds my soul. Either way, I'm not making sense but my love for this album knows no bounds 😂 It's my favorite EXO album which is weird because my hubby number 2 D.O. and mah Xiumin are not on here but I love this album so much. The six of them slaaaayed this so hard. My favorite track is Butterfly Effect. Idk why but there's just something about it that makes me feel some type of way. Thanks for checking this album out!

A lot of exo songs are experimental and different. Their songs are definitely growers, in the beginning I did not really like jekyll but a few weeks later I listened to it more and it became my favorite❤❤❤ Im usually the type of person to either like or dislike songs and never listen to them again but with exo it’s just different, I always relisten to all their music and end up loving everything!!!!🥰🥰
Edit: I don’t mean that all their songs are growers though, since they do have a lot of music that people will instantly love

For me exo is most KRNB not much kpop because their voices are sooo good for rnb
EXO does a lot of genres but one thing for sure it still has EXO sound that even when other group cover it.. they can't make it the same way EXO does. Its just their signature to all of their song are so strong

i was new exo-l when this album came and i remember not liking it at that time ( yeah literally war crime ) after 2 years when my taste became more mature i listened again and fell in love. Exact album is still my favorite but obsession is sitting right behind it.

A great travesty, imo, is that the only live stage we have of Trouble, so far, is from Baekhyun's first concert LIGHT, and it's not the full song-.- But I love that Baekhyun confirmed my thoughts that he has excellent taste in music, by picking it all~^.^
I have like 4-5 playlists for EXO that I drop music into that are more based on what mood I am in/wanna be in (sexy/dark, sleepy/ballad, light, party, and holiday/winter), cause listening to EXO by album will often give you whiplash😆😅

You'll see as you listen to the b sides they have a lot of very different songs (and they slay all of them btw), but if i have to choose a box for their music, i'd say it's pop/rnb ? cause they do have a lot of rnb in their songs, i feel like

Obsession concept is the best for me. It would have been perfect if Kyungsoo and Xiumin was there too. They would have nailed this concept as well like how they looked in Monster era.
Sometimes I feel that EXO is not kpop with a lot of their songs 😂 Plus I think they were through with innocent cute lyrics after their 1st full album haha😅 just kidding 😁
Just in case you didn't know or forgot, they also had a special album 2021. Don't fight the feeling album has awesome bsides too. Only 5 songs. No Suho and Chen but with Lay. And I recommend Oohmaya channel lyric vids. More accurate. 😊
