Was searching for how to do this for the last couple of days and finally found your very in-depth video. Thanks for sharing all of this information.

The sub on the “oomph” at the end was a very succinct summary of the whole thing. Totally made sense without it, but added extra impact. Very interesting video 👍

I was expecting a quick explanation but you went beyond that, thanks!

Thanks for such an informative content.
From the consumer point of view, it's now understandable why some subwoofer manufacturer like REL, really stressing out, as such on 5.1 setup, the point to keep all bed channel in "Large" setting and providing subwoofers for the 5 channels: centre channels( 1); stereo front channels (1), and stereo rear channels (l), hence, at least 3 subwoofers to make them bed channels full range, then provide the .1 channel for the LFE.
Thus, it explains why Denon Reciver in their manuals, mention something like this "if you put the L/C/R in Large, and the Subwoofer Management set to "LFE", instead of "LFE+Main", depends on the program material played; you may not hear anything from your LFE channel (it may only active during that specific "ooomph")".

Thanks for the video, I'm just having a look at atmos in Cubase after working on Pro Tools for years and couldn't get my boom track working, but was overlooking the child busses hadn't been added. Thanks for being there...

Do you have bass management on your recerive? Maybe the extra signal on the LFE output was the lows that were redireceted from the other channels.

using an upmixer to create a decorrelated version of kicks or bass to send to the LFE is best practise IMO. I don't want an octavised version in 95% of upmixing
