- Angel Reese just became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 20 double-doubles in a season. As a rookie no less. Impressive right? Well no, at least not as much as it may seem on the surface. Double-doubles, for those who don’t know, is when a player reaches a double digit number in multiple categories. Mostly points and rebounds for bigs, the way Reese does. Or points and assists for guards. It’s often associated with great impact and players contributing strongly to winning. When you look at the all-time leaders in NBA history, you see guys like Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Kevin Garnett, Shaq, John Stockton and others. Hall-of-famers, and players that are almost unanimously seen as winners. But even in one of Reese’s best games that we saw last night, where she finished with 19 points and 20 rebounds, on a passable 50% from the field, she finished with a +/- of -20 while the Sky got blown out. For some reason, her attaining double-doubles does not seem to contribute to winning like we usually associate it. It feels somewhat reminiscent of mid-2010s Andre Drummond, who put up absurd rebounding numbers and double-doubles on middling to even bad Pistons teams. But for reasons I’ll get into later, it’s worse with Reese. She has single-handedly devalued the double-double, and has turned it into a spectacle for her crazed fans to use in an absurd push for rookie of the year, when in all reality, that race has been over for months.

Dont get me wrong I love Angel Reese as a player, I love the competitiveness and mentality she brings but the fact that she has more off rebounds on herself than def rebounds all together makes this take a very solid one

Only thing that saves her is how bad everyone else is.
Angel Reese plays like Reggie Evans. Zero gracefulness and no touch around the basket. She basically just chucks the ball and hopes it goes in. lol. The thing she has over everyone is motor. 37% inside the paint is unacceptable. lol. They are better off chucking threes than giving her the ball inside.

I think your most relevant statement is 3:42 . Anyone who plays or just knows basketball understands the importance of an offensive rebound. Not just for the rebounder but for outside shooters. In all honesty. All respect to her positioning because she does have a knack for where to be, but if she had better awareness, she’d definitely be pushing triple double levels of gameplay.
better awareness, bro we have seen the games, she needs to learn to lay up the damn ball. almost every single time she is gonna miss, get rebound, miss get rebound, miss get rebound, and we can see she just be throwing up the ball. if she can just score, she can actually help the team. how many times has she gotten an offensive rebound and it wasn't after 2 to 3 misses. that's all i'm saying. every single game.

Missing this many layups at this level shouldn’t be a thing, but I’ve never played with any big who continuously does that. They eventually get to a point where they’ll pass it out to hit a shooter, and I don’t see Angel doing that. This whole situation is honestly strange to me.

man i don't really want to hear about a double double ever again. i never liked when West brook did it, because the team mostly lost every mucking time. Angel double is the weakest, weakest and most disgusting double i have ever seen. i tried to watch, but she literally get 2 to 3 rebounds from constantly missing. she cant lay up, she just throws up prayers, i think many times she is a detriment to her team

Look at his stats. 2.8 offensive rebounds a game, and if you really watch games, those rebounds usually because of their perimeter players' misses.
Angel shoots 30 percent from the field (around the paint) and has like 6 boards off of her misses.

CCs pts/asst double doubles are better due to the fact that theyre harder to get. there have been over 4500 double doubles that are pts/rebs while only around 400 that are pts/assts. heck even CC has 3 pts/reb dbldbls

Your specifically comparing her to legends that averaged a double double to make her look bad. They've been 10's of big men that averaged a double double and didn't impact the game every season.
While its through she mostly gets rebounds on her own misses and its crystal clear she's trying to compete with Clarke.
Her having a plus minus of -20 isn't because she wasn't impacting, they were getting blown out and she was on the court for most of the game.
I don't think she's as good as Caitlyn but you're selecting stats and comparing her to make her look worst than she is.
I didn’t compare her specifically to legends who averaged a double double. I compared her to the players who got the most double doubles. All winners and heavily contributed to winning. I also specifically brought up Andre Drummond lol
+/- isn’t a perfect portrayal of a players impact, but does show how the team performed with a player on the court. And in that game, the team was simply bad with her out there. She wasn’t impacting the game in a way that contributed positivity.
All the things mentioned in the video are true, and mostly just clear stats. The own rebounds are due to her own poor shot selection, hence the abhorrent field goal percentage
