  • Another in our occasional series as we head into our 3rd month of lockdown. This time we're using the Modal Electronics Argon8M with OS2.0, the Pittsburgh Modular MicroVolt 3900, the Zoom MS70 CDR Fx pedal and the ROLI Seaboard Block and the Arturia Keystep. Together with the Retrokits RK006 USB MIDI host/router.
    The ROLI is driving the Argon8 via the RetroKits RK006, allowing for direct MPE connection with no computer, the Keystep is running the MicroVolt 3900 which in turn is going into the Modal stereo line in. Argon8 then goes into the Zoom and out.

      I have heard polar opposites on the Zoom; haters and lovers. I own a ZoomR24 recorder and the built in effects are not good...hopefully these are not the same as the CDR70??? I will be buying a CDR very soon anyway :) despite all the criticism and find out the truth.

      @@WildernessMusic_GentleSerene I think you'll like it. It's got a pretty decent variety of different kinds of re verbs. Sometimes I think the haters probably more Shit on some of the "Shimmer" Algorithms, But I actually like them! And the fact that you can stack multiple effects On top of each other. They got a lot of good delay algorithms and modulation and even some compression and limiter algorithms in there. It's pretty good Cosmopolitan of effects. No Distortion sadly, but it's still a pretty good amount.

      A nice discovery with the Zoom, inspired by Nick's comments about the submarine reverb effect in the minilogue xd, was to chain the pitch-shifting delay and a reverb and set the pitch shift to +/- an octave. It sounds beautiful.

      @@HazeAnderson Today I finally had time to check the RK006 out more thoroughly. Big fan of them using WebMIDI to program the device. A BIG plus in my book, as I'm a Linux-only guy. I also tried an audio cable (as it has the same 3.5 mm plug), but that didn't work. But then I figured, MIDI IN to MIDI out! so, today I rewired the audio cable on one side (red to white and white to red), and voíla! It works like a charm. Now I can use a bunch of unused audio cables. :)
      I think I'm going to be very happy with this little device! You were right: it is amazing.

    I am just a lowly bedroom guitar player, but this stuff fascinates me. I have a Minilogue and Circuit, but have no idea what they would be capable of together if they were to communicate. Anybody have a good tutorial resource for chaining synths together?

    • @InkyDaCaT
      @InkyDaCaT 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use the circuit to control minilouge or other way round you will need a midi 5 pin cable...if you go far enough back on my channel theres something on that using a circuit... but..theres a bunch of good stuff around.

    • @ryanneville4530
      @ryanneville4530 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Read up on what you can and can't do with MIDI (just stick "what is MIDI" into TH-cam), then use the manuals for the two things to look up how to send sync and notes to each other via MIDI. Circuit has a really nice sequencer, so I'd use that as master clock and send notes to the Minologue. You can get a lot done with those two bits of kit, spend some time with them and it'll stand you in good stead if (when, who are we kidding) you end up buying different gear. Loopop's channel has loads of beginner friendly synth videos. Good luck!

    I know it's not really the emphasis of the video but... I'd not heard of this zoom fx peddle and what a price. Does it have a setting for the line levels for synths? I'm a [basics] guitar player as well so it's a good possibility as an entry level peddle as well for me. Any chance of a review Nick? Or is it already too long in the tooth already. I don't know how you can tell by its mere presence it 'had to be there'. Surely we can just say 'it was there' can't we? Seems normal to have the manual near the synth to me, since they both live in the same box when not in use.
