Watch the sneak peek of footage from The Beatles: Get Back that director Peter Jackson just put up yesterday. Nothing but SF Fenders in the studio for the Let It Be tracks. The Beatles mostly used single coil guitars throughout most of their career. As a general rule, single coils tend to produce more highs than humbuckers, and BF Fender amps have more highs than their SF counterparts. As a result, in my humble opinion, Teles & Strats tend to sound better through SF amps while Les Paul type guitars sound better through BF amps. The Beatles seemed to recognize this too. th-cam.com/video/UocEGvQ10OE/w-d-xo.html
@@wildbillhackett I don't think it's true that BF Fender amps have more highs than their SF counterparts, although the SF definitely have more lows (too much!). If anything, the "snubber" caps that CBS sprinkled on the power tubes of 40-50 & 80-100 watt amps reduced highs slightly. The silverfaces in Let It Be were '68 drip edge models, which were transitional between blackface and later silverface.

Doug, in the middle to late 60s Fender came out with a copy of the Super Reverb that included four 10-inch JBL speakers. One came into the local shop where I was taking guitar lessons and a legendary guitarist by the name of Skeets McWilliams sat down and played it . At some point he stopped playing and just decided to test. Got-o-mighty that thing would get loud and maintain its clarity and cleanliness at all volumes. It was amazing

That may or may not have been a copy; there were folks who replaced the 4x 10" spkrs in a Super with JBLs. I don't know if the factory ever produced JBL-equipped Supers. Holy cow, those were heavy amps. That was a pricy upgrade. Supers were $500 all day long and the speakers were $125 each.

Wonderful video Uncle Doug, there is definitely better tone in the BF amps and your explanation of why this is true is very interesting and useful. Right now my BF SR amp’s output or volume goes down when I turn up the intensity of the tremolo.....hopefully with your videos on tremolo circuits I will find the cause. Rgds
Thanks so much, Alvaro. The 50K RA Intensity pot is a fixed load in the circuit (i.e. the resistance to ground does not change when the pot is adjusted), so this should not be happening. I wonder if your photoresistor is faulty (i.e. too low resistance to ground) ?
@@UncleDoug you were right the neon light next to the photo resistor was loose, I fixed that and now its sounding great and there is no volume loss. Thanx
Well done as usual, Uncle. I really enjoy the contrast of Fender circuits! This very necessary comparator will not only educate the masses, but gives most of your viewership an advantage while pricing Fender vintage amplifiers. This unselfish act is an affirmation of your generous nature. I am floored by this attribute. I wish more hosts were as forthcoming with all matter of fact regarding tube amplifiers. Please remain safe. Enjoy the usual December festivities with your family members. I'm very ready to say goodbye to 2020. This past year has been a modern-day trail of tears for the entire world. Luckily, you're a ray of light in an otherwise dark world. Cheers!
My first proper guitar amp back in 1980 was a $25 bone stock but cigarette burns across the entire front edge, April 1965 Fender Bandmaster head. I absolutely loved that amp! The tone was so rich and thick , and the Tremolo was very useable. After 20-30 great tube amps I can still hear the specialness of my Bandmaster. Basically the tone that got me I can hear on this Cat Power song- (TH-cam video)- *Cat Power - "Cross Bones Style"* which is a Twin Reverb as you can see her play in the video. Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) has used a Fender Twin for years. Always a good Fender tone regardless of the guitar she's playing. I once had a Silver face Twin Reverb that the previous owner added a single transistor preamp buffer to the Tremolo ch. input. Sounded great!
Far and away the best quality you have produced on your audio demos, and I have listened to them all. Merry Christmas from frosty London, keep up the good work Uncle Doug
Vintage Amp electronics is such a meta for human xp. Im not really into Roman feast days but you sound about 27.5 years younger. Good luck with the zombies and wife. Top pronunciation, el-o-quotient of u in deed. Blessings.
I saw the Anorexic Zombies in 1972, they played so loud it could wake the dead...seriously, keep up the content UD, really helping me in my amp lab, where I "re-animate" a few Marshall zombies of my own!
Another fantastic video from Uncle Doug !!! The way that you explain things is amazing and makes in understandable for people like myself who are just beginning to learn about tube amplifiers. Showing the differences between the different types of circuits and their relevance to the tone of the amplifiers is a great help. You make learning fun, which is what it should be. Thanks for keeping us posted about the kitties. I love animals so much and have always held the view that people who like animals can’t be all wrong (with the exception of Adolph Hitler of course !!!). Take care and here’s hoping for a much better New Year for everybody. Stay safe everyone.
A Christmas double feature from Uncle Doug, thumbs up. The sound came through crystal clear in my headphones and the spectral display is another great idea. Thanks for a very interesting timeline journey of these great amps. Although the P/T number didn't change the high voltage secondary went from 360V to 375V a side in the AA1069 schematic. Just another one of those quirky Fender anomalies I guess. Ollie has the look of a cat that doesn't need to worry about where her next meal is coming from, just as it should be. I wish you, your family and your three kitty cats all the very best for the festive season. Stay healthy, keep away from the Covids. Regards, Jeff.
Audio quality in the testing sessions was fairly good. I wonder what you did since the last comment of mine. Anyways whatever it is, that is enough quality these videos deserve thank you very much. Uncle Doug, Thank you, thank you, thank you, for all of you videos. My father owns a '65 Pro reverb that I've been clean up and measuring components. It has/had an awful cracking which I will work on. I am in Mesa, Az and was wondering where you get your cloth covered wires. My fathers amp was missing one of the 12" speakers (cut out). I've replaced them both and storing the original. I am still waiting on some comments to arrive, but should have it up and running soon. Keep up the great teachings. Greatly appreciate y our videos.
You're quite welcome, Greg. You can get cloth-covered wire from Antique Electronic Supply, but it's no fun to work with. Unless you seek original appearance, I'd go with vinyl-covered wire.

The dent on the "speed" text is actually super cool. Makes it look "univibey" psychedelic style text. Another nice schematic bit. Eventually I'll be an amp genius, once I get a fender suitable 1x12" cabinet and bother to finish a champ build...

An outstanding video, so much great information!! I had to add the 0.022UF cap to ground on my 68 Bandmaster reverb to stop the tremolo thumping
Thanks, Big Joe. Yes, that is a popular thump stopper ;)
Thanx
Fantastic as always, and I'm loving the tech detail schematic comparisons at the end. Very helpful and informative.
Thanks, GL. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Ollie and Jacks musicianship have greatly improved. Thanks for another great video, Merry Christmas !
Thanks, Phil. Same to you all.
Cheers!
Wow....Thanks so much, Alex. Merry Christmas to you and your family, with best wishes for a much better 2021.
Thanks for sharing with us, Paul.
Far and away the best quality you have produced on your audio demos, and I have listened to them all. Merry Christmas from frosty London, keep up the good work Uncle Doug
Thanks so much, Ross. I have been experimenting with the Bitrate and Audio Sample Rate in my video program. Merry Christmas to you all :)
Wow Doug, amazing content as always.
👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Mick.
Cannot wait for the first of Zozi, Happy New Year and hope to hear from you soon !
Same to you, Paul :)
Very interesting--I wish one of these would show up on my bench. Merry Christmas belated and all the best in 2021 !!!
I hope so too, Mr. CC. Likewise to you all.
Vintage Amp electronics is such a meta for human xp. Im not really into Roman feast days but you sound about 27.5 years younger.
Good luck with the zombies and wife.
Top pronunciation, el-o-quotient of u in deed.
Blessings.
Thanks, GL.
Nice vid Uncle Doug. I like how you repaired that hard hit with a C -clamp.
Thanks, Phil. Glad you enjoyed the vid.
Excellent video Uncle Doug !! Thanks !!
You're welcome, Donald. Glad you liked it.
I saw the Anorexic Zombies in 1972, they played so loud it could wake the dead...seriously, keep up the content UD, really helping me in my amp lab, where I "re-animate" a few Marshall zombies of my own!
Will do, DS. Thanks !!!
I owned a Fender super reverb once. Made the biggest mistake in selling it. Loved that Amp.
Many people share your feelings, IMO.
Hope you are having a safe and healthy New Year, Uncle Doug. Your videos are the best.
Thanks, SB. I am.....hopefully you are too :)
As always great content Mr Uncle Doug. I find the added Schematic explanations especially helpful and interesting.
Thanks, Curtis. I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
Here's a belated Happy New Year to you and yours Uncle Doug! Here's to a wonderful 2021!
Thank you kindly, MJ. Likewise to you and your family.
Thanks for the great videos this year Doug! Merry Christmas to you all and the critters. Lovely to see Ollie in her forever home.
You're quite welcome, RD. Likewise to you and yours.
The story of the SR circuitry is super interesting
That's great to hear, D2. We'll do more circuit reviews for you.
Thanks so much, Robin. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and hope you and your family have a wonderful new year.
Nice repair U D ... A touch of CCR ,ZZ Top and Chris Isaac ... Sweet ... Good vid ... Like the schematic exclamations as well ...
Thanks, Ed. Glad you liked it :)
Thanks for your nice comments and holiday wishes, Jeff. Ollie and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
Great work sir. Happy Holiday.
Thanks, James. Likewise :)
Another great Video @uncledoug
Merry Christmas to you and your kin from us in the UK
Thanks, Richard. Likewise to you all.
Audio quality in the testing sessions was fairly good. I wonder what you did since the last comment of mine. Anyways whatever it is, that is enough quality these videos deserve thank you very much. I recommend jumping into adobe premiere if you can I think it will improve slightly more. I would like to be your volunteered filming and editing crew but I am in the UK. And big thanks to jack and oli for the nice tunes... Mary Christmas
Thanks for your continued concern over our audio quality, Ozcan. I have been experimenting with the Audio Bitrate and Sample Rate.....and am glad it has improved our demos.
That tremelo sound is good stuff
Yes, indeed :)
Thanks Uncle Doug!
You're welcome, Jason.
Wow that amp sounds amazing. At one point that trem almost sounded like chorus.
Thanks, Bryan.
As usual knowledge with tons of know how!!
Thanks !! Glad you enjoyed it, Russell.
UD, thanks for this vid, it's a great Christmas gift to your disciples. Wishing you and Mrs UD, and the kitties, and of course Rusty, the best of holidays. Take good care.
It was our pleasure, RF. Likewise to you and yours.
VERY COOL VIDEO...I LEARNED SOMTHING...THANKS
Glad you enjoyed it, Eddie.
@@UncleDoug love creedance too
The dent on the "speed" text is actually super cool. Makes it look "univibey" psychedelic style text. Another nice schematic bit. Eventually I'll be an amp genius, once I get a fender suitable 1x12" cabinet and bother to finish a champ build...
Thanks, Yup. Good luck with your projects.
8:04 Nice to see you are using such a good quality sour cream in this amps Uncle Doug! Jokes aside, as always great work!
Only the best will do, T. Thanks !!!
A dollop'll do, but Jack and Ollie can have two!
Another great lesson....always time well spent...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family...🎅🎅🍭🍭👍👍👍
Thanks, Doc. Same to you and yours.
