Never been there but wish I could visit more of WV. I grew up in McDowell County and, after living all over the USA, I currently live in Mercer County. It's small compared to most places but other than Raleigh, Mercer is the most populated and "happening" place in the southern part of WV and right on the VA border. I live right between Princeton and Bluefield and only 5 minutes from Pinnacle Rock, which is a cool spot if you've never seen it

He was a Gallowglass, which means of Scottish lineage in Ireland, but not Ulster-Scots (not "Scots Irish"), but from farther south in Ireland and from an earlier time. As a historian of McNeil, it would behoove you to learn some of Gallowglass. I am addin this to my playin list "Appalachia bit 8 of 8".

What happened to all the vital records from hampshire and hardy 1800-1860
Hard to say, but my guess is the Union army burnt them all, as they burnt much of what they found tromping around the South.
I want to move to Hardy County from Jefferson County.
