GE 2024 - Reflection on Election

  • The aftermath of the GE has left an indelible mark on the nation's political landscape. For some, the election results have brought a wave of optimism. For others, it has raised concerns about the direction the UK is heading and the challenges that lie ahead. The ramifications of the SNP wipeout extends beyond party politics as the Independence Movement must now navigate this new political landscape, the focus needs to be on rebuilding and reengaging with people to address their evolving concerns and aspirations.

According to Swinney support for Indy is more than 50%. If that is the case why won't the SNP *HONESTLY* detail cost and timings for their post-indy plans for defense, growing the Scottish economy, which currency, borders with the RUK, export / import tariffs, fisheries protection vessels, embassies, a passport office, a DVLC office, a GCHQ equivalent and so on and put that document to a plebiscite, which if successful could then provide a strong argument for Indy rather than quoting a polling company that the SNP pay £ 5,000,000 out of taxpayers money. In short there needs to be a compelling, truthful and realistic vision of Independence.

Ah a unionist interloper. You can tell as they are the only ones that think independence is about £££. You just don't get it and it is why you will never defeat the cause and independence is inevitable.

All that has been done by different Groups. ie Scottish Currency Group has currency, banking etc. ALL READY TO GO.Even sample money is there! Go look it up! CommonWeal has put out lots of different plans for various things... again, go check their website. Unfortunately, the SNP could care less about Independence so they're not interested in detailing all that will happen. Speak to THEM. Ask THEM why nothing has been put out as to what Scotland will look like. But to be honest, an independence Scotland will look a helluva lot better than austerity union. So I'll take it, whatever it looks like! It CAN ONLY BE BETTER. Because as God is my witness - it CANNOT BE WORSE than tory britain.

No, not a unionist but the priority of the option polls on independence shows that NHS jos, schools and as the largest employment in Scotland is public sector, the young people leave after funded university. The unemployment figures have gone up. There needs to be jobs, better NHS, better infrastructure. Show the map.

Scotland needs a new independence party to unite the clans.. Maybe Independence for Scotland or an assembly for independence.. It needs to have it in the title of the party 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.. We also need experts in everything like equality, the Scottish NHS, energy and land reform, to name just a few.. all things for all people.

Experts in everything is a big ask, in fact, ask the same question to say 3 experts and you'll get 5 different answers, better would be (I think) managers with proven experience of large budget project management, who have the necessary ability to take input and evaluate options and focus on their delivery without micro managing - in other words NOT the Lorna Slater approach.

We don't need another party. Voters are sick of parties. A Convention of Independence candidates perhaps, working together but NOT another party machine. We already have SNP Mk1, Mk11 (ALBA) and Mk111 (ISP) and they don't work.
We had a fantastic 'action machine' in 2014 encompassing all parties and none. We need that again. If we do not use the 2016 HR election as a plebiscite and sweep the unionists aside. Otherwise Labour will be in power, they will disband Holyrood and the cause will be set back 50 years. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

*UPDATE1* - I've been casting around social media for people's views (SNP and non-SNP voters both) of why the SNP lost - initially I thought of a 'top ten', but it got bigger quickly, so here's what came up, they are roughly in order of importance to the electorate as far as I could see. If you feel anything is missing or needs changing please 'reply'. Any duplication, errors etc - my fault.
Arrogance and incompetence of the SNP government
Failure to listen to the Electorate and not focussing on issues that matter to them
Named Persons Bill, Gender Recognition, Trans Rights, Hate Crime, DRS not wanted, those Ferries
Too many know nothings in Cabinet and too much emphasis on 'green' issues
Where's the money, especially the £ 600,000 and the £ 61,000,000 'missing' from 'ring fenced' agriculture funds.
Forever blaming someone else - Brexit, Westminster, Conservatives, Labour and even Thatcher - FGS Brexit was 8 years ago.
    Obsession with power not Independence
Always lying about the support for Independence - give us a plebiscite
    White, White, White
Always bleating on about independence without addressing real needs
Lack of honesty and transparency - lying, cheating and stealing - Matheson's iPad
Dictatorship style of Sturgeon led to divisiveness and incited hatred of pro-union people
Didn't talk about anything other than Indy in their speeches & literature.
Failure to actually make any move towards Independence in 17 years
Last 3 or 4 years considered the worst government Scotland has had
SNP run as a Cabal, the cult was a closed shop, no dissent tolerated
Uninspired leadership of last 2 FMs
Incompetent, hubristic, arrogant, corrupt and divisive, especially the cybernauts & keyboard warriors
Criminal incompetence of the SNP and the stink of corruption
PMQ's focussed on GAZA not Scotland.
    Sturgeon Attacks on Salmond
I have received *3 quite strong messages* which I have edited for brevity and/or taken the 'stronger words' out of : The SNP needs to take it's head out of its ar$e & start working towards its declared goal whilst running Scotland in ways that will improve education, health, local services and internal / external investment and increase TRUST in their ability to run a country. Why would we ask for independence from the UK, only to hand it over to Brussels ? Thatcher, Westminster, Conservatives & Labour are NOT the problem - SNP arrogance and incompetence is.
I've lived in Ireland and seen the country destroyed by treacherous politicians that are now being ruled by the EU and because of that, Irish people have became second class citizens; I fear this would happen in Scotland. Having seen it, I worry the SNP would go along with things and be controlled by the EU if we joined. I want a country that's free from outside interference.
Stop quoting Eire as a good example of a small independent country, it's *OVER 75 YEARS* since we got full independence and now were don't have it.

Inflation will end the union imo. Sad that Alba feel that a payment of £500 yr (if i understand the policy) will have any impact on the brutally unfair poverty levels in Scotland. Graeme McCormick (SNP) knows how to end the poverty and turn around the lack of housing with his AGFRR (Annual Ground Floor Roof Rent) where those who have benefited the most from inflation/ currency devaluation contribute more.
