- SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS C E R E M O N Y
It is with an immense sense of pride that the University of KwaZulu-Natal hosts this prestigious scholarship awards
ceremony, celebrating our most outstanding student achievers in the University. The university scholarships are
meritorious awards accorded to those students who have distinguished themselves in outstanding academic or
sporting achievements. The awards recognise students with exceptional intellectual or sporting abilities and
unwavering dedication in pursuit of excellence.
The Scholarships Awards allow the university to celebrate our students’ distinctiveness while showcasing their
strides in their pursuit of greatness. As the Scholarships Committee of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, we are very
honoured to have had the privilege of selecting these top achievers who represent the best talent. Our scholarship
recipients are the cream of the crop, not only at the University of KwaZulu-Natal but arguably in South Africa and
the entire continent! We congratulate our awardees for their exemplary accomplishments and convey our gratitude
to the support networks that have enabled this incredible feat - be it peers, friends, family, lecturers or the broader
community. We are incredibly proud!
In this year’s Ceremony, the University of KwaZulu-Natal will recognise 72 who have excelled in academic,
community and leadership endeavours (what we term academic awards). The University will also be recognising
10 have demonstrated exceptional sporting abilities through gaining either provincial or national colours (termed
sports awards). In nancial terms, more than R50.m of the University’s scholarship budget has been invested by
the University and our benefactors in recognising our awardees tonight- an indication of our commitment towards
recognising excellence among our students.
This ceremony occurs at a critical juncture in the academic history of our university, where we are witnessing many
changes linked to our renewal e orts. These e orts aim to reposition the University for a sustainable, secure future
where excellence, agility, global competitiveness and relevance are prioritised. Through our new ten-year strategic
plan (2023-2032), we have placed an increased focus on the improvement of the experiences of our students. We
have done this because we understand the importance of supporting and nurturing all our students to reach their
full potential, thereby making a meaningful di erence in society - a di erence that so many of our awardees tonight
are already making.
Once more, congratulations to our awardees on their remarkable achievements. We are con dent that they will
continue to leave an indelible mark on society, and we wish them well as they continue to inspire greatness.
