Problem #1 is the film is only an hour & 45 minutes long. In a world where Killers of the Flower Moon is 3.5 hours & Oppenheimer is 3 hours, Bob Marley deserved more than just a 1.5 hour film to cover his life.
It’s not about his life sadly, it’s just about one year of his life
Yes I need 5 hours of Bob Marley movie
@@MaxZumMini series
There’s plenty of documentaries about Bob Marley. The movie was great, but the documentaries on TH-cam is what you should watch.
It was decent but I learned more in previous documentaries.
I needed at least 3 1/2 hrs. Bob deserves more
Not many people liked it let alone watched it unfortunately. Can't say I blame them.
There’s a documentary called “Marley” that goes in-depth about his life and family. His start and the lives of the members of the Wailers.
The documentary is so much better
Reading this comment, the documentary already sounds like it told more than the movie
I think we need Bob Marleys message more than ever in the world.
More than EVER?? like the civil rights movement didn’t exist
@@sheldonhickman2024what are u talking about ?
Could Bob Marley stop the hate between our clubs or is that a stretch too far lol 😂
@joebhoyy lol. I don't hate anyone at Celtic nor do I care about the religious side. We are rivals and I enjoy the banter and wind ups, but when all is said and done, it's just a game. Life and people are more important on both sides.
ABSOLUTELY
I was really hoping it would be more of a movie on the philosophy of one love and not so much just another music biopic. Your review gives me a little hope that it might be.
There is no philosophy of one love foo,one love is biblical, from God is The only one we should love and glorify.
Yes, go see it. It's more than a chronological rundown of his life
I feel like this movie was more about the music and the message than it really was about bob
It was too much about the message and not enough about the music, IMHO.
This movie fell short of what I’d hope it’d be 😂
It wasn’t good, but it looked nice
...and I just loved it. Funny how that works when it comes to works of art.
If you’re a Bob Marley fan you know A LOT was missed. But I still enjoyed it.
Looking forward to this! Glad to hear the performances are great!
Is Peter Tosh and Bunny anywhere in this movie? There is no Bob Marley without The original Wailers.
Amen
I enjoyed One Love, Kingsley Ben Adir (Whilst not totally resembling Marley) embodies him perfectly and IS Bob Marley. To say that the actor himself sang and learnt to play the guitar for the role, proves how much he got into portraying the legendary singer. Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel & No Time to Die) is equally very strong as his wife Rita. If you are a fan of Marley's classic hits (And let's face it who isn't) you will be humming throughout the movie.
What I like as well is director Marcus Green decided to not hold back on the Jamaican accent, and the actors worked very hard with their dialect coaches to give as authentic accent as possible which makes the movie feel all the more real.
As biopics go, it's a relative simple affair and at no time hits the heights of say Bohemian Rhapsody, but it zips by at 1 hour 45 mins. I would say however there are slight pacing issues as the movie flips between present day and Bob and Rita's courtship, which I found a little jarring and could have been handed differently.
My verdict: Good but not great
They worked on that dialect alright. I could barely understand a freaking word.
@@chandlerwhite8302 🤣 nice one
@@CarletonRutter LOL! I did like the film though.
The movie felt rushed and overly abridged. I found the young Bob Marley (Quan-Dajai Henriques) to be more convincing than Ben-Adir. I would have liked to see more of Marley the man than just the superstar. Character development could have been much better. It was entertaining enough, but unremarkable.
It wasn't rushed. The movie is only based on a short time frame, yet still summarizes his life with flashbacks.
@girljones227 I understand what they were trying to do, and it has been done before more skillfully. The pacing was off. The movie fell flat.
I completely agree- I wanted more of his story and how he became “Bob Marley.” I found the story very choppy and tough to follow. I was kinda disappointed.
yes exactly choppy and hard to follow. Not to mention us american or even british trying to keep up with the jamaican way of speaking making it hard to catch every sentence or remark
Agree. It was somewhat disappointing.
Thx! Going this week! Stoked! Excited just to hear the music, but the acting will be a bonus!
Any updates?
I feel like they definitely played it safe here by not delving too deep into the more dramatic moments of his life. I also wasn't sold on the chemistry between Ben and Lashana because they didn't seem like 2 people in love. You'd think that a married couple with more than a few YOUNG children would be more intimate. As for the good, I really love the exploration of Rasta culture, specifically the Nyahbinghi, which is a legit sector of Rastafarianism. All individual performances were great, including Ben and Lashana and they did a great job capturing life in the streets of Jamaica. As someone with plenty of Jamaican friends and family the accents and mannerisms were on point 🤣
Exodus album is must to any collection.
I feel like the movie is exactly how bob marley would’ve wanted it to be like. Not focused on him, but focused on reggae music to spread love and peace.
Thanks for the review! Like I said I look forward to catching this later!
My wife and I decided to see it for our date night and really enjoyed it. I really didn't know much about Bob Marley and learned some things I didn't know. The actors did a superb job.
My Rasta husband and I went for date night as well. We did the drive in movies. He enjoyed the experience, especially since we got to light the big head spliff , time Rasta Dem start chant!!! Loved it!!
If you're not from Jamaica, I can see how some are giving bad reviews about it!
It was good to us!
@veebaby5537 you don't know Bob marley vibe then, shame on you
I was disappointed.....i expected more. Acting was great!! Music....of course powerful.
It was an Amazing movie, not only did it capture his spirit very well but also his story and his story revolves around spreading the message of jah. The actual story of bob was pretty on point but to me this movie is about ras tafari and the message it has in the reggae music.
Also i feel The one thing people will misunderstand is the god talk. God technically was before man, god is of no color, but to a Rasta they look the start of mankind as when our first primate species started to evolve. Which with factual evidence we knew did stem from Africa.
Which is why they say the god of man to them is darker with kinkier hair and brown eyes because all of man roots back to those first humans. However god, Rasta goes even before mankind. It’s life and we are all life. I and I
They missed out so much!
I totally agree with you, especially that it's best to experience it in the theater.
Glad to hear about Lynch and the musical performances. I think this may be one of those movies I'll have to see for myself to see what I think.
They should have put his mom and dad in it a beginning to end story I’ll still watch because it’s about bob Marley.
They did!!
Bob Marley one love , hd available on any site?
Thanks. I'll reconsider seeing it.
Nice review, your audio is fantastic btw👍🏿👍🏿
Respect from Tanzania
Just wished they would've added YG Marley's 'Praise Jah in the Moonlight' in the end credits.
I'm not a big Bob Marley but his music is like a God play a harp. That's how much I love his music.
I watched the movie and didn't know that he didn't want any money from that particular concert in Africa when most Artist are focusing on fame and money Bob Marley used the message in his music to spread peace, strength and unity
Agreed with the points for the review. On point. As a Jamaican was disappointed at the ending but jt was an emotionally movie despite the agreed points
Little bummer that it is not great but still quite intriguing that many parts of the movie work. Well put.
The reviews of the press are not very good at the moment : But this is a reverent Hallmark Channel-type film made with the family’s cooperation - there’s hardly a relative here without an associate producer credit - and of course it has all the musical rights. The hits are duly served up
I don’t want to read anymore 🤨
FYI the actor doesn’t sings on the movie ! It’s Bob’s voice ! I’m also a big fan and I’m really worried because the estate and the family is often trying to rewrite the stories and the History… So let’s see before judging it. But thanks for sharing this video. 😃
I just finished watching the movie and was very disappointed. From the opening lines that were put on the screen, l said that should have been at the end of the movie. Once, l got over the actor not looking, sounding, or dancing close to Bob Marley, l could focus on the essence of what l was viewing. The theme as l saw it was he was a unitifing force in jamaica. As a producer, Ziggy could have dived more into his childhood as a starting point than climax to what he was a great reggae artist worldwide. There was not much showing of Jamaica's beautiful landscape more of London, England, which was frustrating as he is a jamaicain icon. The whole time, you're waiting to see "The one love peace concert" with Manley and Seaga two opossing leaders of the political parties. all you got was an olding video of their backs turned for a few moments to the audience. Overall, l wanted to support this biopic of Bob as my heritage is Jamaican and see it in the theater, but coming away saddened that a better product could not have shown made to honor Bob Marley.
did they get the Lightning and Thunder right when Bob summons it in real life at the One Love concert?
My Bob Marley picture in my living room says this review is great
It was Amazing
Did u watch the movie? He did the unity concert, he left Jamaica and initially went to london not the states, then he did a world tour
Huh?
@TheKristianHarloff in ur review u said he was in the states.
The scenes u were referring to were in London not us
I agree ----- good movie A+
The length of the movie worries me and I wouldn't have hired a newcomer like Green to direct
Most people who don’t know much about Bob will like it. For the ones that do it fell short
Eh not sure that is true. I think it fell short, I know a lot about Bob but I still liked it. Could have been better but I still enjoyed.
@TheKristianHarloff eh you are 1 of the people he is talking about, you don't know what the Bob marley vibe is, only older gen knows, I am old and I grew up listening to his music, and the main actor is nothing like Bob marley
@@TheKristianHarloff 🙄My Grandparents who saw Bob in person thought the movie wasn’t good, I thought the movie wasn’t good. Most of the Caribbean’s I know think it fell short. Maybe cause we’re actually Jamaicans but if you’d like a better depiction of Bob you’re better off watching the Marley documentary.
This is a sensationalized love story covering a few years of his life. As a movie of the biggest Jamaican Icon this movie fell short. Are we praising the production and acting of Kingsley or the actual depiction of the icon? Even the patoi was bad!
I thought the movie was great and very powerful, I loved it, but I do agree and wish it was longer. I can not wait to see it again, I give it five out of five stars!
I knew right away that they should have used a Jamaican actor. You can't fake a Jamaican accent.
I agree haven't watched it but the reviews or ratings very poor 😢
Kingsley did great and purposely learned the language to fulfill the role. His acting has nothing to do with the poor ratings, it’s the writing and pacing that lacked. All the actors did an amazing job!
He did great! Coming from a Kingston person
you can fake any accent, come on lol a lot of people can do different accents
Ben-Adir did sing. It was his voice. He did a lot of work in order to capture the essence of Bob Marley.
They blended his voice with Bob’s in a lot of scenes. Ben-Adir did learn to sing and play the guitar for the role. He did a great job ❤
5:40 agree and even if the movie was bad but just the bob marley music was there it would still be worth the price of admission.
Even the trailer was overly produced so I'm not surprised the film came across as just okay.
Is there stuff in this movie other than music? because I'm afraid that this will just end up being a 2 hour music video.
It's way more than that. It should have been 3hrs. But maybe people wouldnt watch it
Biopics are very hit and miss for me. I think I'll check this out sometime next week after Madame Web. Need to see how big of a trash fire that's gonna be first.
After the assination attempt, Bob did not go to the States, he went to the UK. If you are the fan you say you are you don't know your facts.
being a huge fan doesn't make you know all his life details, if you loved and cherished what Bob did then you would not attack this man for not knowing his details, you would be kind to him.
@@jdssurf I meant him no harm, I was just stating the fact. As Bob would say "Those who know, know it". Spreading the truth was Bobs message. Peace
@@jdssurf well said, I'm a huge Bob Marley fan but don't know all his life details.
Sounds good that you wished it was longer
When you said this is a "docu pic", I at first thought you said "donkey pic". About spit out my drink.
I thought this movie was pretty weak. They just didn't mention so many major factors of Bob Marley's story. The fact he was a serial womanizer, had 11 children (only a few with Rita), missed out on his childhood story pretty much entirely. Also, couldn't understand a damn thing anyone was saying. It was difficult to understand the Rastafarian. Needed subtitles. Why didn't they show us the goddamn peace concert in the movie and not in the credits... I dunno maybe I'm nitpicking too much haha!
Lashana Lynch is always solid - Captain Marvel, No Time To Die, Woman King…. She plays very strong or tough women.
She was fantastic in Matilda:The Musical too
I smoked before I went also drunk lol but I realized I couldn’t understand the Jamaican accents and I laughed hysterically the whole movie.. I have never been so lost watching a film ..why didn’t this movie have sub titles
😂
Couldn’t understand a word of dialogue in the movie.
It needed subtitles
Huge Marley fan myself. I’m actually getting my only tattoo removed after 23 years, a portrait of him. It jsut never looked like him enough. I fell like they should have used a Jamaican actor possible one of his sons. Haven’t seen it yet but I’ve heard like the legend album which I felt was never how he should have been represented, was a watered down version. From trailer it does look like great acting for sure.
seeing it tonight
why is no one talking about this movie tho
2.3 for me i was shocked they way they did things
I really enjoyed the movie to be honest. The movie was just what it was supposed to be A Movie. It opens up the door for people to do their own research if you want in depth detail of his real life.
They used Bob’s actual vocals for the signing. But still a nice performance by Kingsley overall.
See, I know nothing about Bob Marley. I was hoping to learn a lot with this film, and I left sorely disappointed. I'm gonna have to research him though, because the movie intrigued me enough to dig a little deeper
The movie is good, but they could've put way more Details on that movie like more of his childhood & his last days. That movie could've been 3 hours IMO, cause Marley was living life
I just watched the movie and I would give it a 4 out of 5. I was annoyed with the Jamaican patois was strong and it made it hard to understand some parts of their dialogue. However, as a Bob Marley fan I have watched several of his documentaries so I understood the context behind the movie. This movie focuses on a small period, the height of his career, 1976 - 1978 or 79 years and the making of his iconic album Exodus. We see how Rastafarism has an influence on his music. We also get a glimpse into his relationship with Rita which was a very complex one but the movie shows that they had mad love for each other. I really am glad it did not delve too much into his past, so many biopics become too long as a result. I agree the acting was great.
It was a really great movie, but I wish they had subtitles!
6 over 10, wasted money for making this movie
I liked it a lot. But I just wish it went over more. Like it skipped through a lot of stuff in the begging.
💯 %
Movie does show how he was discovered... You must have I've looked or.. Remember in the Jamaican recordong studio
It doesn't have to be great, or even good. It just has to be about black people.
Then they nailed it😂
I liked the movie.
What happened to the other guy who did reviews with him
Mark has a show on Rotten tomatoes. Check it out, it is great! th-cam.com/video/p4stxGV14_E/w-d-xo.html
I went to watch the movie but only problem is I don't like how it Start and finish but it was grate
I think it did hurt a little having his family be a part of it I know they did shy away from a lot that I think would have really layered him and the film
Man if one of those A24 directors got their hands on bobs life rights I bet they would do a far better job at telling his story and making a much more entertaining and informative movie
The movie was great..Kingsley and Lynch performances are excellent..Oscar nomination worthy. Love it. Which it was longer! Bob was the GOAT
Question: was there any satanic lgbtq in the movie?
how bad did they whitewash Rastafari?
That's the question
It just wasn't heavily featured. Nothing was heavily featured. I enjoyed the movie though 😊
I’m almost unsure whether biopics should be associated with family as they will have huge control over the narrative which is possibly untruthful and too sympathetic. I saw this movie today and almost walked out it was so boring, chugging along and didn’t succeed in emoting anything from me. The only good thing was the music and Kingsley. The patois was hard to understand and the story was so inconsistent.
There's only one Bob Marley smh no actor can duplicate what he went through.
i think they did a bad job choosing the main actor.
True very true spoken, good observation of you, I hath the same, he doesn't have the Bob marley vibe, he was so busy with his accent that he forgot how to act
Poor Bob Marley
😂
It's based on a true story. We all know how it ends.
The actor sings most songs apart from the big concert moments, them parts are dubbed!!!
it cost more to make a movie that long. The big studios didn't want to chance it and end up losing money. They did the same with Malcolm X until black entertainers gave money to have a longer movie with a bigger budget.
Ok dude... U confused on time lines. He did the Concert then went into self exile in England... Where he then worked on Exodus.
😂 I think its pretty impossible to give spoilers for that movie. It was pure fluff. Nothing to spoil.
I thought it was a good flick. Shame we didn't see much of his childhood or teenhood and how he was discovered.
3/5
Any first timers of reggae music by Bob Marley, listen to the full album "Legend - The Best of Bob Marley and The Wailers". Make sure to crank the bass !!
Should’ve been longer
I've heard enough, after two of Bob's contemporaries have been air brushed out of the story ... shame, i had planned to go see this film but got cold feet as it is clearly a one sided story. I'm sure a better version will appear another time.
He moved to London not the states
Bob actually lived and worked in Wilmington Delaware for a short while.
Whenever i see a docu/story about an artist. I always thought it was a cash grab by family and record companies. The family finaly gave into a nice check and gave permission. Hard to watch them now.
This movie was horrible. I couldn’t tell if anyone acted well in the movie because I couldn’t tell what was going on. Why did him and his wife fight idk they don’t tell us, why did he go to a Clash concert idk they don’t tell us, why did he go to London jail idk why hey don’t tell us, how did he become famous idk they just show him randomly in the studio, why does he love music idk they don’t tell us, who was his dad idk they barely show him. This movie was garbage and I have more questions about bob then I did before the movie even started. Elvis and Elton John told us everything we needed to know about them to make the movie great. Queen movie while it left out a lot I still learned a lot about the band. Bob Marley movie I learned nothing at all. Horrible
They should of showed his life and the side chicks and more concert sense it was very underwhelming
I enjoyed the documentary more than the movie. It felt just okay. I felt like they skipped out a bit of details and spent time on areas that weren't important. The beginning of the movie was good but it just got boring after about 40 minutes. I really wanted to like the actor but the fake locs annoyed me. I didn't really like the acting for Rita either... just came across as sad all the time. Unless that was how she was in real life.
I think this movie is ok, but a missed opportunity. It’s far too short and doesn’t explore Marley’s musical career nearly enough.
Non spoiler lol
It is.
lol I think most of us already know how the Bob Marley story ended
This movie blew! It somehow made me care less for bob marley! They took an amazing person and made me not care about any of the characters. It was so bland and messy. Zero quality to the story line
All facts!!! You said it perfectly. My boyfriend is so upset as he is very passionate about Bob Marley and what he was all about. I don't know as much about Bob but the movie did NOTHING for me, evoked zero emotion from and I'm a VERY emotional person. So disappointing.
They left out too many parts of Bobs life. It should have been a 8 episode series at least on netflix. Im just saying. I left the theatre wanting more. Im a massive Bob Marley fan and Ive listened to his entire catalogue repeatedly and read up on his life and family and It was like the movie gave me blue balls 😂😂
