- New York Knicks rumors are focused on the 2024 NBA Draft as we are just a few weeks away. If I had to guess, the Knicks make at least one of their three picks this year. They own No. 24 and No. 25 in the first round and No. 38 in the second. ESPN and Yahoo have reported that the Knicks are looking to trade their first-round picks. This makes sense, given the organization's recent history and the current state of the franchise. I don’t get the sense that they are fully committed to moving their 2024 picks. In some of New York’s recent draft meetings, discussions have been centered on finding players in the draft who can fill a void. In the aftermath of their Game 7 loss to the Pacers, there has been internal concern over the Knicks’ roster depth in the postseason (particularly against Indiana). So in some of these recent draft meetings, the focus has been on finding players who can bolster the back end of the roster.

If they’re able to keep IH and OG that what they need to do to keep costs reasonable.
The Knicks should make the picks because we need young cost effective players on the roster. You can use the 2nd round pick as a draft and stash can't keep punting on the draft.

My summary is as follows - and I freely admit my ignorance on the salary cap, 1st & 2nd apron issues - the NYK need to avoid 'mercenaries [a/k/a/ disgruntled superstars]. Because if they are disgruntled because of team direction, they can become disgruntled again if they don't win with the NYK. So who needs someone like that, that may become a problem again and wish to leave. Not to mention all the assets that would have to be given up to get them. The NYK need to focus on players that want to come to NYC, play both sides of the ball, wish to stay with the same team for their careers, buy into the culture that Thibs has created, i.e. 'next man up mentality' & 'defense first leads to offense opportunities' and 'gut and grind out every quarter'. That translates into Mikal Bridges - 'Nova guy', tough guy from Philly who wants to and knows how to play in the 'MECCA'. Guys like Achiuwa and Deuce McBride should be kept = great bench players and spot starters and always seem to be ready to go and have bought into the culture. I truly appreciate Mitchel Robinson, Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks, but the NYK need to resign and keep OG and IH. So MR, BB and AB with draft picks should be available to trade, but NOT for MERCENARY SUPERSTARS, but Mikal Bridges type players. I'm realistic and pragmatic enough to know the Nets may not work with the NYK and Danny Ainge is a greedy son of a gun. Let Leon Rose keep on doing what he has been doing and hopefully Dolan will stay out of the decision making process - I know Dolan seems to be agitating to get back to his former ways and insist on a marque player. That would be a woefully wrong direction for the NYK to take. Build on the success and don't f_ _ k it up!!! GO NEW YORK KNICKS!!!!!!

Since a lot of the Knicks players were injured last year it would be wise to use the picks to bring in some more healthy talent. Josh Dunn, Messi, Isaiah Cozart... Defense.🤔

1. Daron Holmes (Two way player could be a major steal
2. Zach Edey (high upside translatable offense with potential under Thibs for good defense)
3. Ryan Dunn (defense demon with solid athleticism )
4. Carlton Carrington (straight shooter with major shot creation upside)
5. Tyler Kolek (undersized facilitator)
6. Jaylon Tyson (facilitator and shot creator
7. Johnny Furphy (great shooter and shot creator in a really lengthy frame
8. Bobi Klintman (two way potential)

I will be extremely upset if they don't make a few picks in this draft. They need to do this to replace some of the youthful bounce (Obi), scoring (Quick), and defense (Grimes) they shipped out. They made great trades but need to fill in a few spots on the bench.. PS. I didnt mention RJ because he is addition by subtraction. PS I say pick DaRon Holmes and put him in the rotation Day 1.

One player the Knicks must consider getting in the first round is Eric Gaines. Eric is a point guard who will electrify Madison Square Garden with his dunks, creative passes, and ball-handling skills. He is also an excellent defensive player who averaged 2.3 steals a game. His biggest weakness is his 3-point shooting, but the Knicks roster already has a lot of 3-point shooters, and we can add some more with our other picks. Eric Gaines is also known as Baby Ja Morant, which says a lot about his skills.
2 sleeper players that the Knicks could get in the second round or sign to their summer league roster if not drafted are Shahada Wells and Josh Oduro. Shahada Wells is a tough, playmaking Point Guard with that dog in him that the Knicks fans and coach Thibs love. He can score the ball inside and hit 3-pointers, but his true strengths lie in his ability to steal the ball and his creative ball handling. Shahada averaged 3.0 steals a game (yes, 3.0 Steals a game), and his creative ball-handling skills made him tough to telegraph, enabling him to get wherever he wanted on the floor. His significant weakness is his height, as he is only 6.0 feet tall, but many players (and some are considered lottery picks) in this draft are 6.1-6.3 in height, so this may become something familiar for backup point guards in the NBA.
Josh Oduro is the best low-post-scoring big man in this draft. He has many offensive moves, such as quick spins, drop steps, pivot finishes, jump hooks, running hooks, and face-up jumpers. He would be a good off-the-bench player to provide scoring when Julius Randle is not on the court. He is also a good passer, which he uses to set up his teammates for easy baskets. His weakness is he is not a great shot blocker for his size and does not have a reliable 3-point shot, but his offensive skill in the paint is so great that the Knicks can look past that.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Knicks traded 24, 25 for Raptors 19, 31 and use 19 on best Center available (Missi or Edey) and then hope Holmes and Dunn drop to them at 31, 38 then they’d come away from draft with frontline bench depth on a lower cost structure. (Plus, these dudes would make an exciting summer league squad, especially if they sign 6’8” Serbian PG Nikola Djurisic as a UFA.)
I’d love it if Jaylon Tyson fell to NY at 24, I think he’s underrated. But otherwise, it’d be really nice if we could come out of this draft with a scrappy, defensive, New York style point guard like Devin Carter and a defensive ace like Ryan Dunn.
Edit: I’d also really like to see the Knicks get DaRon Holmes or Jalen Bridges.
The Knick need a 6' 5 to 6'9 point guard off the bench floor general

Need a big wing or power forward who can shoot and play defense or a guard who can back up Brunson and run the offense
Please, please, please take a look at Tyler Smith. He’s a 6’11” G league player playing for Ignite. He’s 19yo, roughly 225 lbs and listed in the draft as a SF. I view him more as a multi positional front line player. He’s solid defensively and Mobil on both sides of the ball. In addition, he shoots the 3 ball at close to 40%. Quick off the ground as well.
His game reminds me of a mix of a young Giannis/KD hybrid. If he adds on some weight and strength along with some improved ball handling skills, I think that he could be a real sleeper in this draft! ESPN currently has him slotted as the 30th pick in the draft. I think that he everything the Knicks need and would be an excellent fit.
Another 2 players the Knicks should consider drafting is DaRon Holmes power forward/Center and Hunter Sallis 6'4" bucket getter from Wake Forest.

The Knicks should draft PJ Hall 6'9 Power Forward from Clemson. The should also consider Kyshawn George 6'8 play maker. It might be wise to trade one 1st round pick for 2 2nd round picks.
24 and 25 one of them gonna be rookie of the year and in the playoffs
If we must, then trade all 3 picks but if not then trade 2 and use the last one to bring in someone who can learn, stay healthy and come in and make some buckets. We definitely do need a solid ass bench so that way we can keep that next man up mentality.

I will say we do need a deep bench We had to many injuries that cost us the season we should keep a few of those picks .
I hope they keep all three of their picks. There is some talent that's going to be available. "Dunn, Mogbo, Scheierman.." The Knicks should also bring back all three of their " Two-way" players. I like " Toppin, Brown Jr and Washington Jr" 🏀

The 2024 NBA Draft doesn't have strong college players in the draft, but I could be wrong.
But there will be a lot of trades for draft picks and/or NBA players on draft night.
Trade at least 2 picks to move up get the best needed or on board. Re - sign Stien & OG. Get a 4 Pos like Julius. A real Dawg that can shoot or get a Vet point for cheap. Oh, my so many possibilities... Omg..

The Knicks are most likely going to trade away the two first rounders. This team has a core and more focused on getting pieces to add for winning right now. Thibs and the staff aren't looking to bring in players they have to spend time on developing.

They need to NOT take fliers on young players that may help them years from now. Draft older, more experienced players that have had 3 or 4 years of college experience so they come in and fill needs. Similar to how top teams get valuable players at the back end of the first round that somehow slip to them because teams are always more enticed by potential than talent. You can't win games on potential.
