Waydoo JET Review | My Experience On Three Wings and Flyer One eFoil Jet

  • My experience and review of the Waydoo JET propulsion system. A great alternative propulsion option that I believe will benefit most beginners. Some experienced riders may find this alternative propulsion more suitable to their style.
Those who are concerned about exposed props will love the jet. The Jet is more efficient than I was expecting but lacks top speed and power comparatively. It *may be challenging for heavier riders to elevate above the water.
More testing is needed to evaluate use with heavier riders, beginner interaction and opinions, and additional aggressive riding. A follow-up review in a future video may cover these additional points.
🧂 Take with a grain of salt. My Waydoo eFoil is the original Kickstarter Waydoo Flyer One, nearly 3 years old, but with a newer battery (less than 1 year old).
This is also my first efoil jet propulsion experience. I can not compare to other jets at this time.

OUTLINE (from the beginning of the video):
    Acceleration
    Gradual and Linear.
The acceleration trigger is less sensitive, as if it l has more range of motion, though it doesn't
Need more power to get up
    Traction
More traction and stability due to extra hardware running through the water
More drag than an open prop, but less than expected and surprisingly efficient
    Efficiency
More efficient than original 3 blade plastic prop
Patroller Wing efficient speed Range results:
    Original three-blade prop 9.6 miles
    Folding Prop 13 miles
    Jet 10.2 miles
    Explorer Wing + three-blade prop 10.7 miles
Explorer + Folding Prop 14.1 miles
    Explorer + Jet = 12.2
    Gliding 1500 Wing + Jet 13 miles
    other propulsion not tested
    Breaching
    Breach recovery is easy.
Recovery is the 2nd easiest of Waydoo's propulsion
Original 3 blade is easiest, jet is 2nd, folding prop is 3rd
    Top Speed
Top speed is limited to 21 mph 34 km/h
Pointless to use power levels higher than "Gear 20."
    Sound
Sound and volume is similar to Original 3 blade prop but a bit louder with more vibration, especially at higher speeds.
Communication is still possible between riders, especially when teaching at lower speeds
    Safer Shielded Propulsion
Openings are fractionally smaller than previously used "Prop Guards" in the eFoil industry.
Chances of an appendage entering the jet system are extremely tiny to zero.
Proper fall techniques, including releasing the accelerator are still most important
Beginner Friendly & Potentially Pleasing to Experienced Riders Too
Most Beginners will benefit from the more gradual acceleration, extra traction, and shielded propulsion.
Heavier riders may have a challenge getting enough power to elevate out of the water.
Experienced riders who like low to moderate speeds may prefer the jet over other options. The jet is not just for beginners, but can suit different styles.

WOW, tried the Flyer Jet for 1st time. Stability is amazing, instantly felt like the mast was 5 inches taller as not worrying about breaching as much. Breach recovery is easier by far, in fact no comparison to both props of Flyer one upgrade. Less pressure on front foot and can stand completely upright with narrow stance of about 1 foot between feet, meaning way less leg muscle fatigue. Practicing foot switches is very much easier. This is the future and comfort of sharing the experience with family and friends is safer.

      Agreed.
You also touched on a few points that I didn't highlight in my video such as a more relaxed stance, especially with the forward foot. 👍 Thanks for sharing.
I recently did a few rides with my youngest kids (one at a time) for my follow-up part 2 video. Combined weight with my kid is 210 lbs. Definitely the absolute maximum weight with Patroller Wing and original Stabilizer. Anyone 200 lb or up I'll put on explorer for sure.
I'm curious if a newer Waydoo such as the Flyer One Plus has just a bit more power for heavier riders or if results are comparable.

    Thanks Jeremy. Very thorough review.
I find that pretty much all of my injuries are simply falling onto the board. That deck is really hard on an old guy. The prop hasn't been an issue so far and most of my bangs were in the beginning. One time I really bashed my ankle when I buried the nose and it came back up as I flew over it. When crash comes quickly or if you're off balance it's really difficult to push away sometimes.
At least now I can go for miles. Thanks for all of your videos dude.

You're very welcome. Glad to hear your floating past your injuries and flying with more confidence.
The foam Waydoo board is nice for more forgiving impacts to and from the board, but response is not as snappy due to the give and flex of the material, especially in the original Kickstarter model that I have.

If people want to learn with a whole lot less bruising than take lessons from a shop with foam or air-based boards. Learning on your own definitely took me a lot longer. I'm glad that I'm finally over that hump.

Ah, makes sense why I couldn’t find your store then! I’m not a social media person, but I’ll have my daughter reach out on IG when we get closer. I presume everyone launches from the Wahweap marina area? We are new to the sport, but will have some time on our boards by the time Memorial Day rolls around. I heard a rumor Flite may be having a demo day or something over the holiday. May still be tentative, but that’s what their customer service told me the other day. That would be fun! Maybe we can buy a lesson from you then, will definitely look you up. 😎

There's two marinas near Page. Each is operated by a different entity.
Wahweap marina (run by Aramark) has two launch ramps: Wahweap and State Line/ State Line Auxiliary.
Antelope Point Marina (run by forever resorts) has one ramp currently useable. The second *public* ramp is not accessible due to low water levels (hopefully this changes in July). But they do have a valet launch ramp that costs $50 or more per lunch I think.
Antelope marina has an advantage for shortening trips further up lake as your starting point is already further along.
Overall, both locations have the same services except antelope is newer and does not have a hotel.
I'd definitely like to try a Fliteboard too. I've tried a Lift, but Flite continues to elude me for some reason. Every time I see someone who has one, they are finishing up as I'm starting or vice versa 🙃.
Im also available to talk by phone if easier/desired. Instagram so far seems to be the easiest place to send and receive private messages and initiate further contact.

Great info, thanks! I’ll have my daughter IG message you when we get closer. We will probably rent an air BNB in Page, there will be four of us. And if nothing else, you can check off the Fliteboard ride from your list over Memorial Day. We are bringing two Pro Carbon Fliteboard’s, and would love for you to take one out for a ride! You can show us how they are supposed to be ridden!😎

Hi! Enjoying your videos. Hey, my family is coming to Lake Powell for 2024 Memorial Day holiday. We would love to visit with you about your store and lessons and where the best locations to eFoil are and the like. How can we find your store? Thanks!

I actually don't have a store location. Long story short... National Park Service has not officially granted CUA Commercial Use Authorization of any motorized surfboards or eFoils even after 4 years of requests. They have been extremely unresponsive and are just a rude blockade, tying up mine and everyone else's hands and investments.
I sought out to do lessons first and an intent to make a store second, but wish I had done the opposite. Rentals, store, then lessons... Oh well.
With all that said I am happy to schedule a meetup and even ride with people. I love making new friends and sharing everything about eFoiling and teaching.
If people are able to pitch in "gas money" (or electricity money) then that's great too.
Shoot me a message on Instagram. My profile name is eFoilLakePowell there as well
Ohh and thanks for reaching out and I am happy you're enjoying the content. I'm stoked to hear about your family plans to come to Powell. You all will love it!

Hey Jeremy , I have both patroller and explorer wing and using Waydoo 120 T Plus Propeller, my battery range is at most 60-70 min, I am 200 lbs, would you recommend me this waydoo efoil jet?

    • @eFoilLakePowell
      @eFoilLakePowell  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I can't compare to that prop as I have not used it. I also haven't tested with any greater weight than 170lbs.
I'm hoping to ride with my daughter and take a few heavier friends out to get results on a heavier weight. I'll report on that at a later date.
The jet will definitely take more power and time to get off the water. But once up, power/acceleration can be reduced as well as noise.
I wouldn't expect to go any faster than 20 mph at 200 lbs based on my experience.
The jet is a must-have for anyone that is concerned about an exposed prop for themselves and/or anyone else someone may share their board with.
Many features and characteristics should improve the learning experience for most. The jet may also better fit some riding styles of those already experienced.
Folding prop will still be king for highest performance and potentially taking advantage of surfing waves
