These vidoes are building a fantastic library for future purchases.
Until recent year, I always had neglected and stayed away from the tall grasses ... now, these thrill me of their colors, forms and the movement in the wind!
Really useful video Rosie. I love grasses, easy to look after, generally grow well on my clay soil, & so beautiful. I will be looking out for these in the spring
Thank Rosy for another great video.
As always, excellent and informative video.
Masterclass, thank you.
Thank you! So useful
Hi Rosy. Thanks for the great videos. A couple of questions? I live in Denmark, and am planning to plant a small narrow row of taller grasses in a place / strip where they need to keep within say roughly 60 cm, give or take... I understand, Karl F, should be rather well behaved for this, keeping it's clump-size under control and not dangling too much (some is ok, but not all the way to the ground a meter away). Can you recommend a companion grass to mix in with Karl F, that can somehow fit these requirements, and also add some alternative interest, either by different look or peak season? Can I pick any Miscanthis, or they grow too big/wide, you think?
Here in zone 5 in the USA, several of the grasses you show us, are given lower zones, 2 zones lower than what you give. Does the UK have different temperatures for the zones? Ie. Hamelin and Karl forester are given lower zones of 4.
Hi Joan, these are the USDA zones we found in our research. The UK doesnt have the zone system that goes through that many numbers. There seems to be some disagreement online about what the USDA zones are for these particular plants. We get the zone information from a site called ShootGardening which lists 10-7. Yet on others such as Gardenia, they list it as 4-8. I would ask the people you are buying the plants off local to you if you wish to double check - local growers will always be the best resource for this
Many thanks for uploading. Are tall grasses suitable for a very windy site (in Scotland)?
Is it ok to cut back the miscanthus when it is still winter? They do look messy in february/march, but it can still be very cold (Norway). And what about the other grasses, should I wait until they start to shoot?
