I was just given this amp in rough shape. I put in Celestion V Type ,some Mesa 6V6GTA's, and a Mullard 12ax7 and the amp sings. This amp loves the Timmy overdrive, it sounds amazing together and I couldn't be happier with the tones coming from this little amp.
Just found one last week. A little dirty, but probably 8/10 condition. Dated it to 1972. 6BQ5 tubes. Speaker was an old replacement, but was trashed. Cone separated from the frame. I put in a cheap Celestion Rocket 50, and this thing is a little monster. Best part is that I paid virtually nothing for it.
Hi Tomo San, I have two of these amps and love them. I've used them as my main gigging amps for many years now. They are still going strong! If it's a larger gig I link them up in series. I have changed the speakers on both and they sound just amazing and yeah I do love these amps, just so simple. But really all you need on such a great amp. It's great to hear you telling everyone how good the amps are!! Thank you and love what you're doing!!!
@@TomoFujitaMusic I too have one old and one newer generation of these amps like yourself. In the 6V6 one I have a Celestion alnico blue and it sounds awesome. It's very loud, raw but has clarity. My other one has a speaker by Scumback, this amp has a different character where it has more of a Hi-fi sound, but with some grit. It's amazing what difference the speaker makes to the sound of an amp. It's the easiest mod you can make to an amp which has a profound effect on the sound (as you have suggested in the past). I love trying different speakers to experiment with sound. And thank you for responding to the comment I left! Thank again.
Nice tone! Plugging a guitar into a bass amp is a fun little thing to do that a lot of guitar players miss out on because they just don't think to try it
This video came in handy few weeks ago before I bought my ‘74 Musicmaster. Pleasantly surprised your video was the most helpful of other popular channels. Thanks for all you share, Tomo.
Great video! Several years ago I plugged my son's electric acoustic ibanez into his Fender bassman 150 and was blown away. Fast forward 10 years I picked up a Peavey T-60 guitar. I had one in 1982 (the guitar was ahead of it's time) and eventually sold it around 1988. Long story short it hit me to try it with the bass amp and it's amazing and so much fun playing with the versatility of tonality with that guitar.
I have four of these. Started buying them bc they were cheap Fenders, cost around $300 then. Two with the external switch, two with power built in to the vol pot. Awesome amps!
I use the 6watt 1969 fender champ amp with the 3 knobs. Was my first amp given to me and the overall tone gave me the want to play the guitar. It really taught me to try to replicate all the classic music I've always loved. Without that amp I would not have fell in love with the guitar. Sounds just like your bassman. I think the bassman can get more volume though becuase of the amperage difference though. Mayby I should invest in one for small gigs
I was very fortunate to buy one of these amps that was donated to a charity shop. The one I have has the power on/off switch and original Fender speaker. I got new matched JJ valves for it and I totally love it. I will be keeping it for as long as I live! (and then my daughter can have it!) Your guitar playing is inspirational :)
You're way better off having one with a separate on/off switch, it's a pain having to adjust my volume every time I turn some of my old amps on that are set up like that, and running the power through the volume pot can cause some background hum
@@TomoFujitaMusic I recently bought one of these I modified with my grandpa it now has a built in tape loop for slapback echo just like an Echosonic my Gibson amp also has the same thing both of them also have vintage 50s RCA tubes and vintage reissue Jensen speakers I play country rockabilly and bluegrass and blues and that's it
Hi Tomo, 16:00 Right (*Left*) Hand Thumb position, oh and your playing with that Vemuram (tab or specific lesson, please), sounds amazing through that fender, and the best advice: use bass amp to practice both, without ruining the speaker's cone, like when you practice the bass with a guitar amp. Beautiful strap gift from your thoughtful wife.Take care.
That is a great amp you have. The new Tweed Fender Blues Jr. is a fun practice amp. EL84 tubes are interesting. Wasn't thrilled when I found out the tubes are made in Russia though. Posture tips are great. I always use a strap and put my left foot up on a foot-stand when sitting. The guitar sits more to my left and I can sit up straight with relaxed shoulders. Thank You for this video. Been thinking about one of these for rhythm guitar for a year since a friend recommended one. I like it's less watts then a pro jr for home use. I like very simple circuits one or two controls ,why I eventually went to Esquire type teles.
I LOVE MY MMBA. It is a very good amplifier after you put a good speaker into it. I have the 6V6 Power tube version. The MMBA you show is 6V6 the other amp is EL84.
Bought my 6V6 version (your combo is the 6aq5? earlier) at that pawn shop next to Johnny Ds in Davis Square last century. Great amp. Gigged with my jug band and some plugged in folkie stuff. It's the love of the inanimate that spurs us on. Cheers.
I can't believe how clean your 74 is. Mine is filthy inside. I've been looking for the earlier silver skirt knobs for it. Someone replaced the originals with chicken heads, I didn't realize they should be black skirt.
Hi sensei, I always search for a simple amp, versatile, good with pedal, not loud enough, and your 'bass amp for guitar' video has open my view from just only focus on guitar amp. I use boss katana 100 212 mk i, it is versatile, it is great, but the clean tone just not 'tomo' tone enough, so i sold it. Nice to have that 12 in the Musicmaster, where the original can keep up.
What do you think about using these small practice amps for gigging? It seems that with some bars and small clubs that many have PA systems where a really big amp wouldn't be required.
