Sequential Prophet 10 REV4 soundscape - Tonight there are no dreams

  • Today I went through documents that I found from my mother. Some of these things were cards she had written to my dad (Hallmark cards, with love underlined), and vice versa. I found her old drawings from when she was 4 to 6. My grandmother saved them. Seeing a '5 year old' version of my mom, drawing a picture of a snowman with red hair (my mom had red hair), it was... really hard to look at. Kind of thinking of the fleeting world we live in.
    Some day - my kids kid could be looking at pictures that my kid drew when she was young, the way that I'm doing this now with my mother. It's just wild how fast it all goes.
    My grandma had also saved a locket of my mom's hair from when she was 5. I guess it's the only part of her I still have... I don't know what to do with it, but I can't really throw it out either.
    Anyway, this track was made in response to my Kawai SX-240 soundscape, because I didn't know if I could make anything quite as nice as that one, but I think I got close.
    Strymon Volante used for delay.
    Eventide Blackhole VST used for reverb.

    Love the sounds you made in this video. I've also loved tracking your journey with this synth, I think I've watched every video you've uploaded that you made with it. The most interesting thing I think is seeing some of your comments in those early videos and you seemingly needing some time to grow to love this synth. It's really cool to now see you still using it and making wonderful soundscapes with it

      Thanks. Yeah, it has some things I wish sequential would add, and wish it had reverse saw LFO… but it’s really an almost perfect synth,
      It took some time to realize how great it was, and the price tag didn’t help. I was really frustrated by spending so much money on something that didn’t seem much better than what I had, but what it provides is pretty amazing. So,.. yeah? My opinion has grown on it. Probably one of the top five synths I have played.
      And thanks! Much appreciated.

    This is real man. Touching. We are transients. It's like a train station or a spaceport. Very VERY moved by this work of art you created.

      Hey thanks. Yeah, every day I try to hold on to the moment, but then it’s gone. I guess there’s just acceptance, that there is nothing to do but let it be and not struggle with it.
      Thanks!

      @@MIDERA Feel ya man. Sometimes in a darkened room with low light it's just us alone and the chosen instrument of the night at first. We invite the grief to the table to sit with us and not speak. We just communicate in ways far beyond the tongue of man. I do the same thing time to time.

    Beautiful soundscape...😊 I just bought myself a Prophet 10 rev 4...couldn't resist! The striking thing to me is that it's so organic and musical with so many microscopic 'sweet spots', if you close your eyes you can almost feel the electrical currents flowing inside. And it makes me happy just to look at it, it's a timeless classic! Would never go with rev 3 or rev 2, as they are absolutely pain to maintain and repair when they start breaking, and they all do. And fatar keyboard is a huge improvement over the crappy pratt/withney ones in the originals, it does it's synth engine a real justice and opens tons of new possibilities. I've paired mine with Eventide H9 Max-black (because of its red led display and black chasis match the prophet's color scheme mainly) and it works nice, but I wonder what pedal/plugin you used on this journey?

    • @MIDERA
      @MIDERA  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh nice! Congratulations. The Prophet 10 is for sure organic, goes from gooey to crazy in seconds. Such a great synthesizer. Everything about it is great. I have also played a REV3 and honestly did not care for it, reminded me of the P600 in how it felt. Just... didn't like the knob movement, the keys, etc. You made the right decision!
      I just used the VST Eventide Blackhole. It can be had for $30 at times. I also have the space pedal for when I don't have my DAW on.
      Cheers!

    That Prophet sounds great, definitely the real deal. Have you heard much early Steve Roach, like Structures from Silence?

    How does the p10 stack up against your trance synths for big supersaw type sounds?

    • @MIDERA
      @MIDERA  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Admittedly, not that great IMO. You can detune the oscillators and use poly unison (but now you’re at 5 voices). So I guess you’d get 4 oscillators? I suppose you could use both VCOs as square waves and PWM, but that won’t sound quite right either.
      Best synths for this in my studio: Virus TI, System 8, and…Korg Radias. SY77 is also good at it. Maybe others? But P10 wouldn’t be the best for that IMO. But it’s great for a lot of things.
