As a new wet shaver after having a large beard for many years this is lather goals. I thought i was getting pretty good lather but man after watching your tutorial I was wrong lol thank you for the video
Thanks for watching man! I’ll be honest and say that a shave lather doesn’t have to be this perfect to get a good shave. I just always enjoyed experimenting with my shave soap and getting the most out of what it can generate. I would say as long as you’re using enough soap, it should perform well.
Great tutorial Aaron. Pretty much what I do. I also use unscented Cube 2.0 to load the brush in the bowl I melted the Cube in, then take the brush to a different bowl where I have small amount of scented soap pressed in. This way I use 70-80% of CK6 glycerin soap (Cube 2.0) and 20% of Artisan soap. Scent strengths is about the same, but the cost is a lot less. 8oz of Cube 2.0 soap is $10 and it lasts forever, almost like triple milled soap. Since I shave both head and face daily, this is the most economical way to still enjoy quality soaps and scents without using cheapest mass-produced stuff out there. This way I can get 10-15 shaves out of a 1/4oz sample. Even though the Cube is a pre-shave soap, the lather is identical to CK6 soaps from PAA at 25% cost.
Thanks so much for watching man! As well as your feedback and continued support. Very much appreciate that my friend! Happy to see this is also your preferred method. I gotta say, the way you incorporate the PAA cube into your routine is pretty genius. Definitely will need to try that for myself at some point. Like you said, smart way to reduce cost. I have so much darn soap in my den that I don't mind using a lot of it up, but if I shaved head and face daily like you, I'm sure I would think differently about it. Not sure if you ever got "keepsake fruitcake" from PAA, but I think he puts pieces of the cube into that soap (so it looks like an actual fruitcake). Really neat idea Doug had with that one, I need to get it sometime. Anyway, have a great weekend bro and thanks again!

Awesome tutorial, Aaron! I like the way that you put the soap in the center of the bowl mostly...it makes sense to me because a lot of the brush lathering can focus over the center region. I usually spend too much time trying to spread the soap all over the buttom when I do it, so I'm gonnna try your method tomorrow when I shave! That lather you patiently created looked like yogurt'y, luscious goodness and I bet it was slick and cushion'y to the max🤘 Thanks for sharing your method! Take care bro🤙

Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the kind words! Give it a try and see how it goes! Hope you have a great week!
Hey Robert! Thanks so much for stopping by and for the kind words! Your lathers are always on point! Hope all is well over there! Have a great weekend!
Nice tutorial. I've had great results with this method -- -- Spread pea-sized amount of soap or triple milled soaps in bottom third of a cheap plastic, barely textured salsa bowl. (Hemispheric bowls seem to work more consistently.) -- Using a barely damp 26-28mm synthetic brush (the larger the knot the better), swirl brush until light paste forms -- Lean base of brush knot on edge of bowl and extract any soap that has accumulated within the knot and place it in center of bowl. -- Without adding water (at this point) re-work soap, then re-extract pasty soap from knot and place in center of bowl. -- Add small amount of water and re-work soap, then re-extract lather from knot and place in center of bowl. -- Repeat above step until desired lather consistency is achieved. -- You might want to add additional water to the lather on last passes for extra slickness. It seems plenty of lather can be made for a shave with a pea-size amount of soap, if one consistently removes any soap/lather that get stuck in the knot. Larger synthetic knots allow for more activity on the soap. I don't know how well a badger knot would fare with extracting lather from the knot, but my old synthetic brushes have held up very, very well.
Thanks so much for watching! I’m happy you enjoyed my tutorial! And thank you kindly for sharing your method in detail! I will have to try this with using less soap to see what my results will be. Very very true that you can generate a great lather with a small amount of soap. Very clever method how you extract the soap from the brush. Have a great week and new year my friend!
I am also a returnee to DE Safety shaving, at the age of 81! Got the SAD syndrome & have spent my daughters inheritance on all things shaving. However, using a soap (I have both cream & soap) it seems to take forever to get a good bowl lather. In your case the soap was showing, stuck to the bowl for most of this video. And, ok we all all a bit nerdy with shaving, but over 10 minutes to make a lather! I have other things to do with my life. What about using the brush direct in the soap dish, then transfer to the bowl? I agree about contamination, but what do you think?
Thanks so much for watching! I’m happy to hear you made the return to traditional wet shaving! It’s truly a wonderful hobby with a great community of people. Yeah, using a soap can take longer. But can be done quickly if you add more lots of water at the start instead of what I did which was slowly add water. I just did that for educational purposes so people can see how the process works. It’s also more aimed at hobbyist who enjoy spending time shaving. But yes this method wouldn’t be that efficient if you’re running late to work. But like I said, if you start with a really wet brush instead of a damp one like I did, you will save time. I like to give people soap samples from my tubs, which is a big reason I like to scoop. Also adding water to the tub can reduce the soaps scent over time.
Thanks so much for watching man! Happy you enjoyed. Yeah, give this a go! It takes some time but it’s fun to do and meditative in my opinion. Hope you have a great Christmas coming up!
Thanks so much for watching Robert! Yeah, I definitely like to use a lot of soap (I also don't mind that since I have so much darn soap in my den). For whatever reason I always get my preferred results with more soap but there's no right or wrong way to do it. After all you can get a great shave with pretty much any type of lather. Hope you have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.
I have now reduced my soap down to 1/32 tsp to 1.25 tsp of distilled water. I use the Pereira Shave Bowl and agitate for 75 seconds with a slightly damp synthetic brush.
@@robertross8565Do you have hard, or well water? I have well water, it’s somewhat hard. My soap maker suggested I use a little citric acid. I have some now, but yet to use it, as I’m using bottled water atm.
Thanks so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, I just don’t think the eyedropper is necessary. As long as you’re adding small amounts of water, the exact amount doesn’t really matter much. Hope you have a great week.
Thanks so much for watching! Happy you enjoyed it. Glad to hear you entered into this great hobby. I think you’ll have a lot of fun with it. Happy shaving my friend! Enjoy your weekend.
I think one of the things to point out is at one point you have plenty of lather for a 3-pass shave and a face wash after, and there is still plenty of product still stuck to the bottom of the bowl. Just proves you don’t need to use as much as you did. You could have made the same lather with half the product.
Thanks for watching. Yes, that’s probably true. I stated at the start of the video that you don’t need to use as much soap as I did. I’m just showing my personal method here. In my experience I frankly don’t get as good of a lather with a small amount of soap. But that’s just personal preference. As with most things in this hobby, your mileage may vary. Thanks again for the feedback and hope you have a great weekend.
@@DoubleAshaves Yeah, reading that back it sounds as if I'm schooling you. That wasn't my intent. My intent was for viewers. Yes, you said that at the beginning. I was just pointing it out.

Thanks so much for watching Glenn! I'm happy to see that you also do this method. It honestly has worked out for me 100% of the time. Oh yes! Lawrie is quite the lather genius, I love what he does in his videos! He has it down to a science. Hope you have a great weekend!
Thanks for watching. I would say a normal amount of water on the face would be good. Like if you put your hands under the faucet and got your face wet before lathering. Then wet your face again at the start of the second pass and same with third. The more water the better. I wouldn’t apply my lather to a dry face. Although it could probably work, I still wouldn’t be comfortable doing it.
I don’t recommend having the lather sit for a while and re using it later. It breaks down after a few hours. But my wife commonly uses my lather half an hour after I shave and it’s fine.
Thanks for watching! You certainly don’t have to take this long to build the lather. You can lather it like this for a minute or two, while adding water and get a good shave with that.
I never done a yet shave before, im about to though. It shouldn't take you ten minutes to lather up. After seeing many videos most people don't add enough water because they squeeze it out. So just let it drip and lather from the soap then the bowl.
Thanks so much for watching. Yeah you definitely don't need to spend ten minutes lathering like I did here. I probably could've achieved this lather if I added water quicker. For educational purposes I took it slow this time though. I shave more meditatively, but I agree this would not be efficient for someone in a rush. Have a great week.
Thanks for watching! That’s fair, I know this process isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I really enjoy the meditative, ritualistic aspect of this hobby so I’m just showing off the way I prefer. Hope you have a great day!

Thanks for watching. Yeah I just meant when you tub lather soaps, hair and blood can enter the soap, which to me sounds kinda gross. I also don’t like tub lathering because I enjoy sending samples of soaps to people, and I don’t want to send them samples that have had water, hair, blood introduced to them. I prefer to keep my soaps dry and just scoop it into the bowl to lather.

Hey Travis! Thanks so much for your continued support and kind words man! Always appreciate you stopping by! Happy to see you enjoyed the video! If you end up trying this, I would love to know your results! You know it dude, this lather was indeed lusciously lovely. I think the time spent whipping it up always pays off (in my opinion at least). I'm sure most of us are in this hobby for enjoyment and relaxation anyway. So the more time the better ;). You also take care and enjoy your weekend my friend!
Very nice Aaron! Nothing wrong with a good tutorial and a well hydrated shave lather. Glenn just did a video talking about you. I checked out your instagram too I was already following you there.
Hi Rick! Thanks so much for your support and for watching! I’m happy you enjoyed the tutorial! Gotta love getting a nice lather 👍🏻👍🏻. Funny enough I’m already following you too! Looking forward to watching your videos man. Hope you had a great new year!
Thanks Aaron, I’ll have to try that. I usually scoop out the creams I use but I bloom the soaps in the container. I’ll try this tomorrow morning. 👍🏻
Hey Don, thanks so much for watching! You’re welcome! Hope you get good results when you give it a go! Glad to hear you want to try this! Have a great weekend!
I will say i completely agree with your method when i first started i always wanted to go fast but then id end up with a terrible lather but once i started going slow it started getting good lathers
Thanks so much for watching! I’m happy to hear you have the same thoughts on it. Yeah, I figure if this is my hobby and my “me time”, I might as well have fun with it and take my time. I think enjoyment is way more important than speed. Happy shaves my friend and hope you have a great week!
Thanks for sharing your method. Will try it also 😀
Much love 💕

Thanks so much Matthias for watching! I appreciate the kind words! Give this method a go and see how you like it! Happy shaves my friend and enjoy your week!
@@DoubleAshaves Hi Aaron,
thank you so much for your kind answer.
This experience will make me think: unfortunately I can only shave once a day 🤣
We become shave addicted.
Have a fabulous week to and more good ideas for successful videos on your channel.

@@MatthiasLenardt appreciate the encouragement man! Have lots of videos planned for the future. This hobby is totally an addiction. But hey, they are worse things to be addicted to, right?

You make the best lathers!!!!! That looks amazing!!!
Thanks Tim!!! I appreciate your support and positivity! Very glad you enjoy the videos!! Hope all is well over there and that you have a great weekend!
Nice tutorial. However, it may be little time consuming for a busy morning rush. What would be your suggestion if i am in a rush
Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the kind words! If you’re in a hurry I guess I would suggest adding more water to the bowl at the beginning so the lather builds up quicker (instead of slowly adding small bits like I did here). Give it a try and see how it goes! Hope you have a great week!
Love your videos. Thanks Double A !
Thanks so much for the kind words Mike! You're welcome! Happy to hear you enjoy my content! I appreciate that a lot! Hope you have a great weekend!
Very nice technique, Aaron!
Hey Robert! Thanks so much for stopping by and for the kind words! Your lathers are always on point! Hope all is well over there! Have a great weekend!
Nice tutorial. I've had great results with this method --
-- Spread pea-sized amount of soap or triple milled soaps in bottom third of a cheap plastic, barely textured salsa bowl. (Hemispheric bowls seem to work more consistently.)
-- Using a barely damp 26-28mm synthetic brush (the larger the knot the better), swirl brush until light paste forms
-- Lean base of brush knot on edge of bowl and extract any soap that has accumulated within the knot and place it in center of bowl.
Great Video I'll have to try some of that next time, look's a lot like your making cool whip
Thanks so much for watching man! Happy you enjoyed. Yeah, give this a go! It takes some time but it’s fun to do and meditative in my opinion. Hope you have a great Christmas coming up!
Hi. Awesome tutorial. Nice looking lather.
Thanks so much for your continued support my friend! Happy you enjoyed the video! Hope you enjoy your weekend!
Nice lather. You use about 5 times the amount of soap I use. I measure 1/16 tsp of soap per 1/2 Tbsp of distilled water.
@@voodoo7008I don’t have hard water. I just like using distilled water.
Great instructional video. I've seen guys use an eyedropper to add more water, but your technique seems easier
Thanks so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, I just don’t think the eyedropper is necessary. As long as you’re adding small amounts of water, the exact amount doesn’t really matter much. Hope you have a great week.
Might have to try bowl lathering myself. I always run out of lather for my head for the third pass.
Thanks so much for watching! Give it a go! I don't think you will be disappointed. Have a great week!
Nice job buddy, good tutorial.

happy holidays all, regards Mr Straight Razor 💈🖖🏻
Thank you sir, and happy holidays to you as well 🌲👍🏻!! Appreciate you watching!! Have a great weekend!
@@MullyShaves it’s all good brother!! No worries!! I didn’t think you had any bad intentions with your comment. Anything that’s helpful for the viewers is great in my book! Thanks again for the feedback and I look forward for watching your videos!
Nice lathering technique Aaron! That’s exactly how I do it. Have you ever seen UncleL’s videos? He does an incredible job lathering as well!. Best regards, Glenn
Thanks so much for watching Glenn! I'm happy to see that you also do this method. It honestly has worked out for me 100% of the time. Oh yes! Lawrie is quite the lather genius, I love what he does in his videos! He has it down to a science. Hope you have a great weekend!
How much water should be on my face when I apply this lather to my face? How many times should I add water droplets during Lathering?
Thanks for watching. I would say a normal amount of water on the face would be good. Like if you put your hands under the faucet and got your face wet before lathering. Then wet your face again at the start of the second pass and same with third. The more water the better. I wouldn’t apply my lather to a dry face. Although it could probably work, I still wouldn’t be comfortable doing it.
@@DoubleAshaves As long as the Lather maintains a yogurt-like texture without air bubbles, the more water the better, right?
@@yc-ju9us yeah exactly 👌👌
@@DoubleAshaves Thank you!
How do you store the brush, Can you reuse the laher?
I don’t recommend having the lather sit for a while and re using it later. It breaks down after a few hours. But my wife commonly uses my lather half an hour after I shave and it’s fine.
How do you get to work on time when you spend 15 minutes making laher
Definitely a beautiful near perfect lather, but 16 minutes just to make the lather, may be a little too much fun, if that’s possible.
Thanks for watching! That’s fair, I know this process isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I really enjoy the meditative, ritualistic aspect of this hobby so I’m just showing off the way I prefer. Hope you have a great day!

Contaminate the soap? Huh?
Thanks for watching. Yeah I just meant when you tub lather soaps, hair and blood can enter the soap, which to me sounds kinda gross. I also don’t like tub lathering because I enjoy sending samples of soaps to people, and I don’t want to send them samples that have had water, hair, blood introduced to them. I prefer to keep my soaps dry and just scoop it into the bowl to lather.
rocket science right there.... ffs how Hard can it be to foam some soap 🤦♂️😂 people get more and more stupid.
Thanks so much for watching! lol yeah…I honestly think a lot of people use too much water and too little soap (cause they want to conserve soap). But I’ve never gotten a good lather that way. More soap, less water is the way to go and it’s a shame more people don’t realize that. Have a great weekend!
@@DoubleAshaves it's matter of preference, but I can't understand why it should be so difficult for people. it's just water and soap😂
@@bronsonstrundson313 Good point 😂. People overcomplicate it. But you’re right, if you think about it as just soap and water, it’s really pretty simple.
@@Eph2.8-9 well, mapping ypur face and using the right technique and pressure when de shaving takes time for some, and have a lot more to it than mixing some water and soap, so... there's that.
You need a good lather for a great shave! I used to keep my lather watery because I wrongfully believed it would create a slicker shave; boy, was I wrong! Great video!
