Im fine with it as long as they don’t prioritize DIVERSITY OVER THE FLIPPIN WRITING. Also i really hope the chameleon doesnt talk and sing…

Doesnt the line go, " Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your "golden" hair?
Do we need a brown princess? Yes
Do we need to race swap the existing stories for that? No
Cant we just simply pick one story from thousands and thousands from brown lore, and create a NEW princess? Sure we can.
    Lets do it then

I think the problem is their replacing one culture for another. You can't avoid the fact that casting an Indian actress as Rapunzel makes her Indian as well, which makes the entire cast and the rest of the characters indian as well.
(Also Flynn has been compared to Zayn Malik, one of the most beautiful and talented people alive, so.... The person they actually cast as Flynn is kinda a let down)
Anyways, they should keep it germanic instead of erasing the entire culture of Rapunzel, being a German tale, and instead make another film based on an Indian fairytale and cast that actress in that. (And get some goddamn competent employees to write them, aka hire the writers from Never Have I Ever because I personally think they did a great job portraying Devi's family dynamic and culture).
Also for The Princess and The Frog, if they do remake it in LÀ they should definitely base it off of their animated movie, because they slayed. And in a LÀ setting I think they could delve more into the economical and racial issues suffered by Tia and her community. And also the deep rooted culture of voodoo and witchcraft in New Orléans.

I don't think it would be fair to say that race swapping is entirely wrong or right. I just feel like there's a wrong and a right way to do it. You actually named an example, that I really love as a positive one: Princess and the Frog. The story was taken from a German fairy tale but it "race swapped" the protagonist, to be African American rather than German. In that case however, they also took the entire story, only kept the main inspiration and put it into the context of an entirely different culture through and through, thereby making it their own work, their own interpretation and the movie is amazing. I totally agree, that there should be more representation of divers people, but I don't think that will happen by taking white stories and throwing a non-white face on it. For real representation in my mind, there are so many great stories out there, that can be told. Coco is representation for Mexicans and it revolves around the Mexican festival of the dead. Perfect: you want a story with some culture represented - take a story from that culture. So, I think, if they were to make Rapunzel Indian, that could be a great opportunity to use exactly what they named as reasons for her to play the role. There is a light festival in India? Great, so you could just make the story Indian then and only keep the main inspiration the same. Just don't keep the story the way it was with everything accept the main character. You know what I mean? There's just so much potential out there for truly divers cultural stories, so this kinda makes me sad. Btw., I'm saying this as a white German girl who very much identified with Rapunzel from Tangled, when I was younger (kinda still do haha) but there's always room for individual new interpretation, that's what makes it art, no?

i am honestly really done with the race swapping.
they are recreating the animations so they should keep to that wahat people know the characters as
And ontop of that they are also tryinf to attracted people to the movies which is so wrong how they do it.
I meana they can easily just make new princesses instead of changing what we all know and love

I'm an Indian myself and have no problem with Avantika playing Rapunzel's character until and unless Disney desides they wanna do nothing with the original script and storyline of Tangled.
I mean small differences are not a problem but Avantika being brown, just can't go with blond hair, I mean Eugene calls Rapunzel as Blondie the first time they meet and continues to call her as "Blondie" throughout the series, which is absolutely adorable 🫶🏻🤌🏻

That's not race. Race is human, but our background. And I hate background swap. I had enough of Disney. N O, spells no. I hated the swap. The fairytale needs to respected, if not it's a flop!!!!!

Proof that Disney has lost its mind when misinformation is taken as fact. Blackwashing is the new norm and I can GUARANTEE that any white female lead will be blackwashed.
*Definition of BLACKWASH: blackwashing is a casting practice in the film industry in which non-white actors are cast in white roles.*

I just don't understand why everyone is making such a big deal out of these casting decisions. Like if Disney actually prioritizes other races over white people "just" for the representation and equality I think that's stupid. They should be cast because they just fit the character better, like the personality. Sadly though, I do think people's reactions wouldn't really be all that different.
