Companies have managed to avoid paying employees fair wage and make the general population guilty enough to cover it for them. Rather than getting a policy to enforce better payment; we made it socially unacceptable for the common people.

To put it simply, the delivery menu fees are higher than pick up menu themselves, after that then you have delivery fees and state fees and then taxes, pretty ridiculous
I've read not only do they charge you a fee for the restaurant, and a fee for the service, and a delivery fee and taxes, and THEN expect you to tip, many of them actually raise the price of the food another 10-30% if you buy it through their service. That's why buying like two combos that should be $15 ends up being a ridiculous $40.

While I do agree that wait staff does deserve tips for the hard work that they do provide. It doesn't cost them physical money to bring the food to you at your table. Delivery drivers have to pay for gas and wear and tear on the car to bring your dinner to you. They're also a lot more likely to be injured, or worse in a car accident on their way to you People don't think about it, but it costs the driver the same amount to take a $15 order or a $50 order. So the dollar amount of the order should not be as important
Finally someone has said it. It's rude to also pressure your customers to pay you more because your company refuses to. I tip only when there is exceptional service. Usually there are many waiters who give great service.

I work for doordash and I’ll pick up any delivery (base+tip) that pays 50¢ a mile round trip. It’s fucked that both the delivery company and the food merchant put the weight on customer’s tips for driver’s pay to be worthwhile but don’t feel obligated to go overboard. That’s really all you need to tip for drivers to make an average food service wage.
I am a Dasher and this is pure Comedy, I don't worry about the tip as much anymore, I just prioritize higher paying orders now or the Quantity of how many I can do a day ~work smarter not harder

We get a small percentage of the delivery fee as payment. We put wear and tear on our cars, which can lead to paying for fixes, and pay for gas. I respect you tipping. However, others who don't tip shouldn't expect service. No tip? No trip.

I've made some of my biggest tips, working in nice establishments (golf course, catering, even staff) where I was making full hourly pay. I got tipped because I provided a service BEYOND what the patron was paying for.. I'm not about to work for less than minimum wage and expect everyone to tip me for doin bare minimum work, or the exact work I was hired to do. Or make ppl feel obligated to tip me all cus my employer think the job that I APPLIED FOR, deserves minimum wage or less. Stop takin them tip jobs then expect to come out on top thru tips. As someone who moved from the USA to Germany you don't just tip because the employers don't pay enough, you also tip for the service. Tipping is still done here not the common 20% but 5-10% and sometimes not at all since the waiters make more hourly. The service is not as great though. They do their job ask you for your order and bring you the food and thats it. Refills, additional orders, questions etc you pretty much have to flag someone down. Once they bring you your food they don't come back until it looks like your done and ready to pay. Also mostly everyone does not have that friendly and smiling personality where you feel like they are happy to see you walk in they get paid either way so they don't care.
I’ve been a delivery driver for nearly a year. Driving for hours at a time is physically exhausting and dangerous (late nights, car accidents, theft, and bad weather conditions). Delivery drivers deserve more compensation for the risks they’re taking. This was hilarious tho 😄

One time I went to this Korean restaurant and gave 10 percent tip (service wasn't bad but it wasn't great; there was only 1 other person in the restaurant not counting my table) when the server saw what I gave she acted like I had stole from her and was telling me 18 percent was recommended. as an ex food service employee that did exclusively customer service side jobs where I would be the one working for tips, tips are bullshit, they often get split with the kitchen and others when the service side are the ones being judged on their performance, and the service side is often (almost always even at high end restaurants) paid MUCH less than a livable wage BECAUSE of tips, in short please don't tip, it's some bullshit through and through and ya'll employers, food service or no, should be paying your employees livable wages at LEAST (for the area too, so no livable wage average to weasel your way into minimum payment)

While I don't agree with food tampering, you should definitely tip if you know for a fact their income depends on tips. If not, then you should drive there to get the food yourself, or if it's a sit down restaurant order it to go. Otherwise you are wasting the server's or driver's time when they could be working for people who will tip them.
I tip waiters and waitresses because they make like $2 an hour (which is wrong in itself, and they should just make a normal wage and not worry about tips), and I do give delivery guys a tip (but not as big as the one I give waiters), but I agree that companies started adding "service charges" and "delivery fees" as a way for the rich to skim off the top and give their employees nothing in return. I never understood tipping when you get a coffee or pick up food at a restaurant. They are already making like $10-$15 an hour...making the food I ordered and handing it to me is just their job. If you are tipping coffee makers and places you pick up food, might as well tip the person who hands you the food at McDonald's drive thru and the cashiers at Kroger.

While I do agree that wait staff does deserve tips for the hard work that they do provide. It doesn't cost them physical money to bring the food to you at your table. Delivery drivers have to pay for gas and wear and tear on the car to bring your dinner to you. They're also a lot more likely to be injured, or worse in a car accident on their way to you
People don't think about it, but it costs the driver the same amount to take a $15 order or a $50 order. So the dollar amount of the order should not be as important

The delivery fee is the companies tax . Drivers don’t get any of that unless you put a specific or percentage tip on it
Finally someone has said it. It's rude to also pressure your customers to pay you more because your company refuses to. I tip only when there is exceptional service. Usually there are many waiters who give great service.

I work for doordash and I’ll pick up any delivery (base+tip) that pays 50¢ a mile round trip. It’s fucked that both the delivery company and the food merchant put the weight on customer’s tips for driver’s pay to be worthwhile but don’t feel obligated to go overboard. That’s really all you need to tip for drivers to make an average food service wage.

We get a small percentage of the delivery fee as payment. We put wear and tear on our cars, which can lead to paying for fixes, and pay for gas. I respect you tipping. However, others who don't tip shouldn't expect service. No tip? No trip.

I've made some of my biggest tips, working in nice establishments (golf course, catering, even staff) where I was making full hourly pay. I got tipped because I provided a service BEYOND what the patron was paying for.. I'm not about to work for less than minimum wage and expect everyone to tip me for doin bare minimum work, or the exact work I was hired to do. Or make ppl feel obligated to tip me all cus my employer think the job that I APPLIED FOR, deserves minimum wage or less. Stop takin them tip jobs then expect to come out on top thru tips. As someone who moved from the USA to Germany you don't just tip because the employers don't pay enough, you also tip for the service. Tipping is still done here not the common 20% but 5-10% and sometimes not at all since the waiters make more hourly. The service is not as great though. They do their job ask you for your order and bring you the food and thats it. Refills, additional orders, questions etc you pretty much have to flag someone down. Once they bring you your food they don't come back until it looks like your done and ready to pay. Also mostly everyone does not have that friendly and smiling personality where you feel like they are happy to see you walk in they get paid either way so they don't care.

I’ve been a delivery driver for nearly a year. Driving for hours at a time is physically exhausting and dangerous (late nights, car accidents, theft, and bad weather conditions). Delivery drivers deserve more compensation for the risks they’re taking.

as an ex food service employee that did exclusively customer service side jobs where I would be the one working for tips, tips are bullshit, they often get split with the kitchen and others when the service side are the ones being judged on their performance, and the service side is often (almost always even at high end restaurants) paid MUCH less than a livable wage BECAUSE of tips, in short please don't tip, it's some bullshit through and through and ya'll employers, food service or no, should be paying your employees livable wages at LEAST (for the area too, so no livable wage average to weasel your way into minimum payment)

While I don't agree with food tampering, you should definitely tip if you know for a fact their income depends on tips. If not, then you should drive there to get the food yourself, or if it's a sit down restaurant order it to go. Otherwise you are wasting the server's or driver's time when they could be working for people who will tip them.

I tip waiters and waitresses because they make like $2 an hour (which is wrong in itself, and they should just make a normal wage and not worry about tips), and I do give delivery guys a tip (but not as big as the one I give waiters), but I agree that companies started adding "service charges" and "delivery fees" as a way for the rich to skim off the top and give their employees nothing in return. I never understood tipping when you get a coffee or pick up food at a restaurant. They are already making like $10-$15 an hour...making the food I ordered and handing it to me is just their job. If you are tipping coffee makers and places you pick up food, might as well tip the person who hands you the food at McDonald's drive thru and the cashiers at Kroger.
I made less than min wage at my coffee shop job and burned my hands making peoples espresso drinks from scratch, one or two bucks like a bartender was so appreciated when it happened. Just glad I don’t work there anymore
