  • The Agilent 4100 Microwave Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer (MP-AES) doesn't just redefine a category -- it creates a new one.
Say goodbye to flammable and expensive gases. Say hello to enhanced productivity. The Agilent 4100 MP-AES runs entirely on air. It's safer and more cost efficient. It enables superior detection and unattended multi-element analysis. Watch this web demo video to see the Agilent 4100 MP-AES in action.

That is a very perfect demonstration on the instrument.

Can be MP-AES technology used in mineralogy, especially interest of rare earth elements, such as lanthanides and actinides? Do you have an experience with spectrum generated by lanthanides and actinides?

Hello Mr Steve, I'm Obed from Nigeria. Please what can one do if the microwave plasma atomic emission spectrometer refuses to ignite. Tnx

Can MP-AES measure multiple wavelengths ( Multiple Metals) on same run ? If so, how many wavelengths (metals) can it measure on single run ?

it can measure almost any element from periodic table as long as you calibrated your instrument for them (i.e. introduce standards first). But based on expierence, I can say that better not analyse all elements at the same time to avoid scatter. Better choose elements with close wavelenths and group them. Like in periodic table (groups 1, 2), halogens, group 2-3 elements etc.

pls tell us how to create Microplasma in MP AES

Dear Rajni, unlike previous MP sources, MP-AES couples energy from electromagnetic Field as seen in the video. An electrical field is used to concentrate axial magnetic field around the torch. The torch design is similar to the one used in ICP techniques, so this create a toroidal plasma that allows introduction of aerosol samples by using also a classical nebulizer-spraychamber. In this instrument, we use Nitrogen as plasma gas and plasma works at atmospheric pressure. You can learn more on the technology, waveguide and cavity design by reading some scientific publications (I can provide details). Just let me know if you need more specific information not sure I answered correctly your question. Kind regards. Jean-Pierre Lener, Agilent Technologies

Which gas does the instrument use for the analysis?

    • @somarpr

Nitrogen from a Nitrogen generator. You supply air to it from a very clean and dry compressor.

Why role does nitrogen play in this process?

The nitrogen gas makes up the plasma
