Just discovered this all Bach concert while looking through the Cathedral's video list and listening to Canon Klienschmidt's Bach concert. " The Mighty Flentrop" strikes again! (It must be almost as famous as the Harvard Flentrop by now. Both being built by D.A. Flentrop and inaugurated by E. Power Biggs). Happy 2024 from Chicago, U.S.A.
Fabulous rendition of the great A-moll fugue! So many people these days seem to start loud, stay loud and end louder, so that by the time the piece is finished, the performer isn't the only one exhausted. This organist does it right, IMO.
Thank you so much, Mr. Jansen! It's not just Saint Mark's that has such great talent -- the three performers in this recital are all employed at other churches around Puget Sound. But we like to think that the presence of this special instrument in Seattle for nearly 60 years has played a role in creating the robust culture of organists and lovers of organ music in our region tofay.
Ah, the 543, one of Bach's greatest. Yes, it is played wonderfully. And the "Mighty Flentrop" is something to hear. But I prefer to hear it on a smaller organ. Of course, if I was sitting in the audience, up close, well that would be a different matter. I am happy that they are still having concerts. congratulations!
Thank you for your kind words, William. As it happens, the 2024 rendition of the annual All-Bach concert just occurred last weekend (May 3, 2024), this time presented by organist Kimberley Marshall. However, since the cathedral building re-opened for in-person events, we now reserve the concert video for paying audience members.
Incredible talent!
Thank you for listening!
@@saintmarksseattle I had the easy job! Thank YOU!
