These are two amazing ways to see the Matterhorn and to explore the Magnificent Swiss Alps.
    If you only have one day in Zermatt, consider hiking or biking to the five lakes. You won't regret it.

    This is a great tour of the hike! May I ask about the name of the trail where you were on the edge of the cliff looking at Matterhorn? Oberer hoheneeg or is there another sign to look for. Also, did that trail start down hill from the lodge you stopped at? I think you said it was called bikers corner

    Photographing Matterhorn is my dream for years.... I was planning to be there last July, but cancelled the trip. I'm hoping to go there this summer. Which month did you go? Thank you for sharing beautiful video!

      Thank you very much. We had wanted to visit here for years as well. We were there in August of last year. It was a wonderful time. If you photograph the Matterhorn, make sure to either go up for sunrrise or camp over night. The Matterhorn is clearest in the mornings. It clouds over as the day goes on.

      It was all mostly down hill. You can definitely do it on a mountain bike. We didn't need the ebike on the mountain, it was mostly useful in the village. Thanks for watching!

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The sooner you book the better. Once you book your trip and know the nights you are going to be there, book it. This has limited space for the morning sunrise and books up quickly.

    Can you please share the co-ordinates of the place in 09:40 min of the video? Also, How do we get the cycling trial map? Does GPS work there?

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure thing, this is on the Oberer Höhenweg trail. You get to it from the 5 Lakes hiking trail, this portion is from Mosijee. You then veer off to the Oberer Hohenweg trail instead of continuing to Liessee. We rented our bikes from Slalom Sport www.zermatt.ch/en/Media/Attractions/Slalom-Sport-Intersport and you can get maps from them. I believe GPS Works there. We didn't use it, but I think we had some coverage throughout our day. To be safe, maps.me is a good offline map navigator. I hope that helps!

    Hi, Good information! I've a question - When I check gondola from Zermatt, all of them start at 8:00 a.m. (June), how did you book and get Gondola at 5:30 a.m. for sunrise?

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to book it in advance at www.gornergrat.ch/en/stories/sunrise-on-gornergrat This is a special tour that is limited. You can also hike up and camp up there if you don't want to book the trou.

  • @herinachang1594

    Hi, is it mandatory to join a tour for lake stellisee sunrise hike? Also is it hard for a beginner?

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is not mandatory to join a tour. But you do need to book your train tickets in advance. There were people that hiked up on their own and camped overnight. If you want to go for sunrise from Zermatt town, you do need to book your spot on the train in advance as there is limited space.

    Possibly going back in May.. did you have to purchase the funicular fare in advance in order to get there before the sunrise?

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, get the funicular beforehand. There are only a limited number of people allowed up before sunrise to keep the crowds small. So make sure to book in advance. Have an amazing time! Here are details for booking tickets. theplanetd.com/5-lakes-hike-zermatt/#What_to_Expect_-_Stellisee_at_Sunrise

    So, you have a mix of biking and hiking. Were those two different trips like different days?
    so when you're hiking 7:19 where did you put your bike?
    I will assume that you can take your bike up from zermatt funicular up to Sunnegga, then i see your bike into gondola?

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we biked one day and hiked the next. And yes, you can take your bike up the gondola.

    • @ThePlanetD
      @ThePlanetD  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crawfish91 Yes, we hiked the 5 lakes and then hopped on the train to Gornergrat. I am not sure if you can take the bikes on the Gornergrat rail, but we did catch it when hiking.
