I have a 1998 fuel injected Road King Classic with the EVO motor. It has a 121,000 miles on it,has never been opened up and runs absolutely beautifully. The only real issues I've had have been sensors. The cam position sensor, throttle position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor. The original cam position sensor had the wires locked in by a hard gel like material. This melted at some point, but there's an aftermarket replacement that doesn't use this substance to keep the wires in place. It is ,in my opinion the best Harley-Davidson ever made. No frills, no cruise control..just a great motorcycle. I love mine...as you can tell.
LOVE and respect it for what it is! The joy displayed on your face after having ridden it in it's current condition was priceless. Too many classics are destroyed today when modified to contemporary TRENDY concepts. Something to really consider.
man !!! what an awesome bike!! I had a Dyna with the 103 engine, rubber mounted (the one that shakes the fillings off your teeth) and never connected with the new M8 engine bikes. I am thinking about getting something old school as well. The smile on your face says it all!
Nothing, and I mean nothing sounds like a Evo. Congratulations to you and Elaine on the new edition to your stable. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the build.
I just test drove my (new to me) Road King yesterday. 96 also with only 17000 miles on it. I bring it home on 5/15th. Can't wait. It will be fun watching your channel and progress.
Nice bike, I almost hate to see you change it. But I guess you have to make it your own. At least I know you won't be changing that beautiful EVO lope. I have a 98 Fatboy that I hit a deer with a couple years ago. I got it back on the road last summer. I sure mist that EVO. I like my Twin Cam Ultra but I am weak and the forces of EVO are strong.
Sweet! That bike is perfect as it is. It's unique enough already because of the the era from whence it came. I'd leave it alone. You don't see too many unmolested Harleys that old that are so period correct. That's just my take on it though.
