My opinion is Battalion raises you from a private and ingrains the mental and physical toughness needed to move to the Q course or the Unit if you can get selected. Your going to have a be well rounded, surrounded by professionals and now a days your getting the missions very similar to tier 1 stuff. Ranger units have diff levels within , and you can’t go wrong

I've wanted to be a SEAL since I was 10. I'm 16 now and have been training for around half a year and plan to keep training until and through I am old enough to apply. I moved to Bend Oregon around a year ago. I heard the name and was surprised but then heard the Bend Oregon and was even more surprised.

Aaron Burkhardt right on man, sounds like you got a good thing going. For me, getting mentally prepared is just as important as physical. You should listen to David Goggins and his audio book, as well as Jocko willinks. They’re both ex navy seals and complete bad asses.

Aaron Burkhardt I’m 16 too, and I’m training for the Rangers. Cross country is the perfect base builder for endurance, and I highly recommend those weightlifting classes. I’ve been focusing on XC and heavy compound lifts for a couple years, and it’s working perfectly. Keep doing what you’re doing. The other thing that can help is to start studying for the asvab, the higher it the more likely you’ll get what you want.

How's everything going for you guys? I just started my Ranger journey and I DEFINITELY have to get my running better. I'm fairly strong and can do the other exercises pretty well, but I've never been much of a runner so I'm gonna have to train hard on that part.

For those asking about ASVAB scores and what the the requirements are- the requirement is a GT score of 110 or higher. The GT is a breakdown of the ASVAB and acts as a poor mans IQ test. A GT score is not synonymous with an ASVAB total score. A GT score of 110 qualifies you for absolutely all MOS's.

Was in 3rd for 6 did my last two with pathfinder unit at 101st. We ran the division pre ranger course and I can tell you they wanted as many tabs as we could get . Even if your not a battalion ranger, the leadership experience and training just bringing the tab back to your unit is priceless . If you wanted to go to Battalion you needed 4 years retention , by assigned to a scout unit , exceed all standards for battalion on paper, and then get your RASP slot . We would help guys out on weekends or whenever at the pathfinder unit to get them prepared . At least half of us were prior battalion guys

Is 2/75 still known as 2nd Aryan on Ft. Lewis? My first night there I had to listen to soldier talk about how much he hated having an N-word as BN CSM. Then he talked about holocaust denial. Then a team leader (N.L.) named his fire team 'Aryan Team'. I saw someone reading 'The Turner Diaries'. Then going to see 'friends' in Idaho (Hayden Lakes/Aryan Nations). One solider (M.S.) was going to have 'My Honor is My Loyalty' (SS motto) tattooed on him. Or is it less neo-Nazi these days?

Rangers are decent at what they do but the true jack of all trades is Seals. Seals can do everything Rangers can but add in the water component and there's no comparison. I have a Ranger friend who is retired now and he told me that behind closed doors most Rangers will tell u they wished they were Seals. I can understand why. Seal training is far more complex and longer than Ranger or Green Beret. Delta and Seals are about the same in aptitude
