It is amazing to me just how wild a coincidence that 4 such talented individuals wound up together. Although that does happen often in music, groups like Rush and Blue Oyster Cult to name a couple, but to me the ultimate expression of symmetry is Saiki. They could not have known when they picked her out that she would blend with them so well. Every time I watch her, live or video, she is totally committed to the song. You can see every emotion cross her face as she sings so many lyrics it is ridiculous. I have played in bands for over 50 years and I don't think I've had to recall as many lyrics as she does every damn gig. I am so impressed with Band Maid it is hard to say. From what I have seen, every single concert is unique. They change some of the songs for each concert and they do different intros and such for each crowd. Nobody does that.
Princess NittPicc, could you marching band select a Band-Maid song and perform it as an instumental for an upcoming game? That would be a great change of pace!
Wouldn't miss BAND-MAID Sunday for anything. You're my favorite reactor here on TH-cam. Not only do you understand the complexities and soul entwined in their music, but your engagement with every member of the band is so appreciated buy this subscriber. 🙏🕊&❤
NittPicc, love what you said about them having "conversations across the stage." Sure, Magie has an upbeat & catchy chorus, but with the rest you get instrumental and vocal lines that are pretty dense & engaging. Folks attending the Hall concerts in Japan have reported that Magie is a huge crowd participation song. It's usually near the end of the setlist, and seems to be a way to get fans charged up before they hit the streets!
Hail to the Queen, but I hope we’ll eventually have songs by all the members of the band. I remember MISA stating that she wanted to write music as well. Our benefit.
I believe this song is in E-flat natural minor. And given the heavy use of minor pentatonic scale in the vocal melody and riff, it was most likely composed on the piano. Because just by playing the black keys, the 2nd and the 6th notes are left out, and that's exactly the scale.
I LOVED Marching Band!! Did it my freshman and sophomore high school years, what a blast. Our percussion section were a bunch of psycho-misfits but we were gooooood..............the girls in the flute section were never safe. LOVE Miku's backing vocals......shhhh-shhh-shhh! Absolutely the best vocal Rock duo going today.. You're not weird because that is exactly why MISA goes barefoot on stage....to feel the vibrations through her feet....FACT! Hurry up and order the new CD/DVD.
Can confirm, Misa's vibrations can stand in for a pacemaker, the two times I saw them I was basically in front of Misa's amp and you can feel the growl through your bones and into your soul.
I had the same experience! When I first saw them live, I was a bit disappointed since I primarily want to see / experience Akane. But being placed in front of Misa's amp... Instantly changed became a Misa stan! 😻
Good observation too on Akane mixing it up. In the other new song, Protect You - there's a spot going into the final chorus where there's no drum fill on beat 4 where it would "normally" be, but on beat one of the actual chorus there's a blast of 16ths. She's completely unpredictable and inventive.
Anyone reading these lyrics, without knowing the band, would not in a million years expect such heavy riffage! Or the thunderous bass guitar. Or real rock drums with heavy-metal style double bass added in. Magic, indeed!
One more thing, NP - you DEFINITELY want to pre-order, and get the cd/dvd or cd/blu-ray combo - the first edition includes a video of the Day of Maid concert!! Which I believe is the one you just saw with the Magie video, although someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
If your marching band performs this...the tempo lends itself to the band doing a little Miku Pigeon Walk at some point ! I think pigeons dance to this without knowing it...Thank you Miss Picc-olo ! ❤️
I was at this show ,and although I might have not picked this as the first video release, it was the next to last song of the set. After their final MC of the night, they put the pedal to the metal and set a blistering/adrenalin filled pace to finish out the show. Looking forward to their next US tour and hope to get back to Japan for another show, because its just not the same in the states.
Yes, they're just more comfortable and relaxed in Japan. They can play with speed and fury there. I saw this played in Osaka and it was way harder. I couldn't stop jumping.
Welcome Home Princess NittPicc, po! Listening to you talk about marching band reminded me of the 6 years (from junior high to senior year) I spent having to march in parades and half-time shows, and then having to perform in our jazz band at concerts and basketball games. I seem to remember it was always either 100+ degrees in our wool uniforms, or it was below freezing at night during the football games. We started our summer camp about 4 weeks before school started, then had to show up at school one to two hours before school started every day, so we were marching or playing 2 to 3 hours every weekday, not counting the events we were playing, plus I was in the jazz band for another hour per day. We did get invited to the Fiesta Bowl and the Rose Bowl and some other events every year and that was a bonus. Somebody in the comments mentioned "Magie" for the marching band. I'd like to see them march to "Black Hole" at 220 bpm they would be going at warp speed across the football field. During a parade that could be really interesting. Please take care and have an incredible week. I hope your ribs heal quickly.
TWO weeks of band camp? That's so brutal!😬 When I was in high school, our marching band camp was only ONE week. 90% of the day was spent out on the football field (practicing the field movements) or in instrument sectional practices. All in the summer sun in the first week of August.🥵💀
Some poor benighted soul said he felt this was "called in". He also thinks the Black Plague was akin to the sniffles. I think this is a fine catchy tune. It's a grower. It requires multiple listens for us to really appreciate It's beauty. It's a fun rock song for goodness sake! It makes me smile and tap my aged foot. Not every single kiss ends with an orgasm! Love the review! Love this impossibly hard rocking band!
The more I listen to this song the more I love this song. This chorus is reminiscent of traditional Japanese festival tune. Saiki's basically singing flute part (Japanese flute though) it's ingrained in every Japanese gene.

Ain't no band who writes, plays and performs like Band-Maid! While I've watched Magie climb from an initial 6, when I first heard it, to a 7 and now an 8 (taken from a recent survey of my cerebral musical cortex ;-), I always appreciate the execution, sound and, once again, performance of all their songs... even starting with "Made In Japan," released in 2014 when I first became entranced with the Magical Maids. Thx, Ms Picc!
Definitely get your pre-order in! Getting the limited edition DVD/Blu-Ray has always been worth it in the past, so why would it be any different this time? And don't worry, BAND-MAID is exciting! Whenever I'm feeling crummy I find listening to a little BAND-MAID always brightens my mood.

Marching band? A Japanese fan posted that this song reminded him of Japanese festival music, with Saiki's voice doing the flute part. That comment made the song click for me. If you are unfamiliar with Japanese festival music, think American marching band parade music. The Japanese word for festival is matsuri, and I am sure there are many examples of traditional matsuri celebration/parades on TH-cam.
It could be either. Your pronunciation is correct if BAND-MAID are using an English pronunciation. If it's a Japanese pronunciation then it would be (Ma-Gee-Eh).
I'm in the minority. I've been listening to BAND-MAID for 3 years now and consider myself a Maidiac. This is the only song in their catalog I don't like. It sounds disjointed with Saiki singing pop in the middle of great hard rock music. Most of their songs move in unexpected directions which makes their music unique. Magie is too much for my ears to handle even after listening to it several times. As I said in the beginning-I'm in the minority here
I understand what you're saying. I felt the same way as you at first. I was a bit disappointed with the pop and light part, especially the chorus. But after listening to it a few times and getting used to it, it doesn't bother me at all. It may not be in the top tier, but I've changed my opinion to a positive one. I think I've fallen under BAND-MAID's spell.

Of the soooo many things I love about this band Kanami dancing around stage is something that I relish when it occurs, again love them.
Band-Maid is Magic! Pure and simple!
Dance-Maid says time to get the party started!
Princess NittPicc, could you marching band select a Band-Maid song and perform it as an instumental for an upcoming game? That would be a great change of pace!

Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things they play whatever they want
Okay, question for NittPicc - if you could pick a Band Maid song for your marching band to perform, which one would it be?
That riff. I can't get over it. It's so goddamned tasty.
Saiki's vocals are a damn good rhythm instrument. I swear there's a piece of Domination where she's the only one on the beat.
I'm imagining Saiki asks Kanami, "I want a song that starts with a cool guitar riff and has a party-time chorus". Kanami says, "ok".
I love having a subwoofer in my full size system. It really produces the lower "feel it" bass.
A new lyricist is emerging from the band. Her name is Saiki. The Queen reigns.
Hail to the Queen, but I hope we’ll eventually have songs by all the members of the band. I remember MISA stating that she wanted to write music as well. Our benefit.
Yes! I would love to hear what she has to say.
Band Maid healing powers confirmed!
Misa feels music in a time signature we are not able to comprehend
I believe this song is in E-flat natural minor. And given the heavy use of minor pentatonic scale in the vocal melody and riff, it was most likely composed on the piano. Because just by playing the black keys, the 2nd and the 6th notes are left out, and that's exactly the scale.
"Magie" might be the song for the marching band to learn. Imagine how psyched the audience would be.

Specifically, Akane's drumbeats through the floor let Misa lock in her timing to them. Misa doesn't use a click track for that.

Magie with a hard g as it's the German for Magic rather than the French La Magie
Yes, Saiki said it had a German derivative.

Magic in Japanese is generally mahou. I’m not sure what they were going for with the title. Magie means magic in German?
It is one possibility. Another translation of Magie can be Wizardry.

Magie is German.the way you pronounce it, it's French😅
Google translate says Magie is French for magic.
Great reaction, although I am not a big fan of this song. Protect you is worlds better. Rock on 🤘
I'm in the minority.
相変わらずライブの音は最悪⤵️ギター🎸が聞こえないロックバンドがあるか!
