    DESCRIPTION:
Direct Chute is a badass line off the very summit of Granite Chief Peak! Direct Chute requires a decent hike from the Granite Chief lift which takes most about 15-20 minutes but took me around 30 minutes. There are two entrances into Direct Chute: the main entrance and one slightly lower. Both are about equal in difficulty, but we opted for the lower entrance since the main entrance was unskiable on the day of recording. This is definitely one of the hairiest entrances I've attempted, however it skied much better than it looked. The snow was in very good shape considering it was late May! The first few turns are definitely the steepest but the run maintains a really tough pitch all the way until you clear the towering rock walls. Direct Chute like all the other runs in the Granite Chief Peak zone filters into Hidden Bowl. I didn't include the remainder of the run in the video since conditions were extremely variable and we had to backtrack in several unskiable sections.
This was, funny enough, my very first run in the Granite Chief pod, ever. When I skied Squaw/Palisades for a season in 2014, I was never allowed to ride up the Granite Chief lift even once since I was too young. Even though the hike is a bit frustrating, Granite Chief Peak is definitely home to some of the best terrain in Squaw/Palisades. The lines here look majestic and are very unique compared to all the other lift-serviced terrain in the Granite Chief pod. Of all the runs I skied in the Granite Chief pod, this was by far my favorite. I'm really excited to get back next season to try some other runs off the peak including the main entrance into Direct Chute, Christmas Tree Chute, and maybe even one day, Patrol Chute!

These days when I attempt these crazy runs, for some reason both you and Arjun are the first to enter my head. Even now, I am also tapping the skis on them.

Thanks man! I've been skiing since I was 4 years old, but I really started to push myself towards more extreme stuff at around age 16.

Lowkey worth the hike when doing it once; to do the hike twice... nah
