  • Kick is too big. Focus on whip kicks from the knees down. Too wide of a kick can make kick weaker and create a braking effect during kick phase of the CSS.

Hey Stew, excellent video! As far as swimming with fins, and even without, when you are doing your flutter kicks, where should they "begin"? I've heard some people say it should be kick from your hips and some say from your quads. Any advice? maybe a video?

DylanLopez420 Yes any kick begins in the hips and whip kicks down the leg. It is better to do smaller / harder whip kicks than a giant spread eagle kick. Spread your legs too far and it is like putting on the brakes in the middle of a swim (creates too much drag)

I believe I have/had this same issue when taking my PST for Navy EOD in San Diego with Mr. Fuller. The swim was the only portion of the test I failed. I'm not certain where I was failing specifically in my swim but after watching and reviewing my own swim, I definitely see that my kick was way wider than it should be. Is there anything else, Stew, that I can do in and out of the pull other than swimming laps in CSS and freestyle for time and stroke count to get sub-8ish? I had the scores to auto-qual with exception to my terrible swim time and after training for a month and getting ready for my final PST, my ship date got changed and I missed the deadline by a single day so now I have to wait 18 months I believe before submitting a package for EOD and scheduling a PST. In the meantime though, I'll be aboard a sub and if there's anything you can recommend in and out of water for me to get that sub-8, it'd be excessively appreciated. I've been through your site and took a look at what you have on the military site and even took some of Don Shipley's exercises and haven't had results from any other workout top the results I get from yours and Shipley's. Absolutely grateful but still not a great swimmer speed wise. Love the videos and tips you throw out, keep it up.

Can't you just opt out of swearing in and then go back to another recruiter and re-enlist?

Not exactly, I ship on the 20th of this month and to do that would be way too conflicting personally. I absolutely wanted the job I got as an SECF and simply got interested in EOD too late for me personally. I listed EOD as one of my top choices at MEPS but had no idea how to go about joining the specwar community. Luckily my NC is a proctor for the PST and ex-SEAL instructor for guys training for their PST and looking to land in BUD/s. He helped me along the way but it was just a little late and I didn't have much time to prepare and train for the PST. So I personally plan to cross-rate when possible but have every intention of remaining a submariner until then.

Do they allow nose plugs/give you any. I can do the swimming. But not without that dreaded water going up my nose.
I just don't wanna be that person coughing a storm at the end 🤣

Stew. How much pull ups, push ups,and sit ups do you do in a day in buds?

    • @StewSmith182

Joshua Samaroo = PUSHUPS - 5 days a week on average a few hundred (sometimes 300-400 reps) BUT that does not mean you should practice DAILY PUSHUPS. Do them every other day. Lots of Lean rest or plank pose - many minutes at a time - 5-10 minutes sometimes. Pullups and abs are usually every other day during PT sessions. Several hundreds reps of a variety of abs and maybe 100 reps of pullups / dips on tougher pullup days.
