    This project was very easy to do with any window. You can even remove the straight pins and reuse the fabric on something else and then change the fabric if you needed to. I'm so glad I found this pin. Check out the original blog where I found this by clicking the link below. She puts up blogs every now and then that are $10 projects. :) hope you enjoy!

    I was looking for an inexpensive and easy way to block light that comes out from the top of my curtains. This could easily do that with the addition of a top piece going all the way across. Can't wait to try it! Thanks! (I have blackout curtains, which work great where the curtains are, but light still comes in at the top.)

    • @TaraD_win_fail
      @TaraD_win_fail  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I ran into this issue before doing another window. We decided to just use wood instead of the foam because we could make it as long as we wanted to. However, if you still wanted to use the foam, my thought would be to maybe attach another foam piece behind it where the two or more boards connect. So that it's not wobbly. you may have to put another piece at the top as well so you can add more command hooks. It's very light so if it happens to fall it shouldn't hurt or damage anything. but I haven't actually tried this using more then one board so not exactly sure if it would work or look good. Good luck if you choose to do it this way :) And let us know if it worked or if you decided on something different.

  • @oasisregimen5826
    @oasisregimen5826 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My sister and I love this!! We made a total of eight. My question is with using the command strips, do you leave the plastic on the back when you glue gun it to the fabric or take it off? We tried Velcro, which stuck like no tomorrow to our wall but came off the fabric within a day or two. Hence, randomly our valances started falling off the wall completely.

    • @TaraD_win_fail
      @TaraD_win_fail  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! Thanks for the comment. I would take the plastic off the back of the command strip because those are made to come off easily. I believe I hot glued them to the fabric they fell the first time for me but I kept trying with the hot glue and they finally worked you could try maybe a fabric glue or pin them on..not sure if that would be any better though. Hmm you made so many of them I hope you find a way to keep them on the wall. Sorry i couldn't be much help. I do these videos as win or fail projects (I'm not the best crafter) lol

    Looks nice from the front but what about from the outside looking in? It appears that the fabric doesn’t cover the back of the foam board.

    • @TaraD_win_fail
      @TaraD_win_fail  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't that noticeable, our windows were higher up so someone would have to look way up to see it. But, you could always cover the back with fabric as well.

    How do I know how much fabric to use?

    • @TaraD_win_fail
      @TaraD_win_fail  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Donna Fowler you would have to measure your window and see how big of a valance you are making. Once you have that you will know how much fabric just add a few more inches on all sides so you can wrap it around and pin it to the back. If you’re buying fabric sometimes the workers at the craft stores can help you out if you have the dimensions of the piece you are covering. Don’t forget to add the fabric inches to the sides as well

    You didn't show how to use the nails from the valance to the window. Can you please show how you did that?

    • @TaraD_win_fail
      @TaraD_win_fail  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The nails are actually just used to hold the end pieces to the main board. I attached the valance to the window with Velcro command strips. The board is very light so the velcro strips work great. No nails in the wall, that way it wont leave any holes. Hope this helps :)

    • @k.a.decoster5009
      @k.a.decoster5009 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where do you buy the foam board? Michaels or a craft supply store? And a stupid question perhaps ( I've never used command strips): do you attach the same size command strip to the wall right up against the window casing?

    • @TaraD_win_fail
      @TaraD_win_fail  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The foam board I got from Home Depot, the blogger suggested Lowes. I do not believe the craft stores will sell it they are insulation boards I believe. PERMA "R" multi-purpose is what it says on the top not sure if that is a brand name or not. I'm not exactly sure what you are asking about the command strips. I used the same size command strip as the edge of the foam (so you wouldn't see it) and yes I put it on the wall right on the outside of the trim. Hopefully I helped a little with those questions. If you click on the link in the description box it will take you to the blog post and they might explain things a little better for you. Thanks for your comment and hopefully you are able to do this it was a pretty easy project. :)

    • @TaraD_win_fail
      @TaraD_win_fail  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Helen Morton you could attach too pieces with a piece connected the two in the back? We recently did an extra wide window but we opt out of the styrofoam for that one and just used wood. So I am not sure if that would work or not. Good luck let us know if you find a way. 🥰
