Love the dreamy tone, the textbook Swiftian lyrics and melody (even as they’re presented in a production that sounds entirely new for Taylor) and just how grown up, at peace and mature she sounds on this song. It’s fascinating thinking back on her career; she started as a Nashville teen songwriting prodigy who initially was best known for writing songs about unrequited love (think “teardrops on my guitar”, “you belong with me” etc.), who then went on to gain mass appeal with her relationship denouement/ break-up anthems (think “back to December”, “dear john”, “I knew you were trouble”, “we are never ever getting back together”, “all too well”, etc.) to now writing songs about being in love and at peace with someone who treats her right. She went from brilliantly capturing the longing and angst of wanting nothing more than the person you love to love you back, to brilliantly capturing the pain, heartache, anger, defiance, etc. one can feel when broken-hearted or love goes sour, to brilliantly capturing the peace and joy and contentment and pride one feels when they are perfectly, happily in love.
